  1. If any of you paintball fans are interested, there was a tv paintballing gameshow called X-fire. (Pronounced cross fire) Basically trying to be a real-life video game with paintball guns, at least some episodes are on Youtube: X-Fire S1E1 And here's how paintballs are made.
  2. I went paintballing once, worst day out of my life. The gear badly fit and as soon as I put on the helmet it fogged up until I couldn't see a thing. And the idea of playful paint harmlessly splattering you? Most of the time they just bounced off me which could really hurt. I can't help but think if they had burst on me it would have softened the impact. I couldn't see and I got told off by the staff for taking my helmet off between rounds even though we weren't even on the field at the time. Then the staff finally noticed they adjusted my gear, fixed my helmet and I thought things were turning around. But in the very next battle, a paintball grazed past my neck and left a painful bruise as thick as a 2 pence piece in a stripe across my neck. And I swore, never again. My advice, do laser tag instead. Similar principal by way safer.
  3. I know this might sound like a dumb question but since G4 has ended, is it too late to mingle with fellow fans? I just saw a video talking about MLP FIM, how the fandom was a perfect place to find friends. But since the show is over, does that mean the community will be less active and maybe fade away altogether? My experience interacting with fellow fans on anything is very limited. I've been a fan of many different things over the years but this is the first time I've ever joined a fan-site or really participated in fandom and I've only done it recently.. So I don't know what to expect. Did I miss my chance to regularly engage with people over this show?
  4. I think that's a dark topic for a site like this. But to be sporting, these spring to mind... I don't want to set the world on fire It's all over but the crying Christmas At Ground Zero The End Of The World Maybe Incidentally these have a connection to MLP as Weird Al voiced a character. The others were used in Fallout games and fans created a Fallout Equestria. Not to try and escape the topic but ideally I'd be listening to them from space on one of those sci-fi ark-ships as we set of to settle another planet. I know what you mean about nuclear war. Every time I've opened my browser the last few months it's full of news items with titles that have been tweaked to sound worse then they are about looming nuclear war, the doomed climate and imamate meteor strikes. But to you and anyone else who feel the end is nigh, I offer you these to videos to help you re-examine the situation and have hope for the future. Steven Pinker Makes the Case for Optimism - how the news is skewed to the negative while the world is objectively better then it's ever been. School of life, Roman history - This one made by the School of Life notes that the news is full of crisis. But uses history to show us how commonplace non-crisis is. I don't agree with everything the school says and wouldn't recommend you take all it's advice. But this one is two thumbs up. Coca-Cola Commercial: "Reasons To Believe" - This may be primarily a way to sell soda but that doesn't mean it's not also truly inspirational.
  5. Anyone who's familiar with My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, know the Elements of Harmony. And they are not magical jewels that shoot rainbow lasers, they are the qualities found within people/ponies/creatures. Specifically the ones that together create harmony between people/ponies/creatures. I think the elements chosen for G4 (Laughter, Honesty, Generosity, Loyalty, Kindness and the Magic of friendship) are not just random positive traits. I think that for true harmony to exist, even in real life, you need all these particular elements simultaneously. They all contribute to and support harmony like the support beams of a structure. Before I saw A New Generation, I was expecting these characters to be the new mane six and after I saw it I assigned them these elements in my mind... Sunny Starscout-Magic. Obviously. Hitch Trailblazer-Loyalty. He was devoted to the town and his duties as sheriff. He also stuck by his old friend Sunny when everypony else turned their back on her. Izzy Moonbow-Laughter. Though though arts & crafts is not the same thing as throwing a party it's still creating something that puts a smile on a face, makes life enjoyable and therefore worthwhile. Plus she acts a lot like Pinky. Skipping, positivity, excitable and that scene inside her cottage was kind of like one of Pinky's reality-bending moments. Zephyrina (Zipp) Storm-Honesty. She wanted everypony to know the truth about how the royals couldn't fly. Even though she knew it could be devastating to her people, even though the lie was more beneficial to them. It takes honesty to tell the truth but it takes commitment to tell it if it does harm and no good. Pipp Petals-Kindness or Generosity. I wasn't sure which of these she would be but I was leaning towards Generosity. ????-Kindness or Generosity. I was expecting a 6th character to be added in the new series. Given the make-up of the new group so-far I was expecting a unicorn, possibly a male. As Make Your Mark began I began to doubt if Zipp was the element of honesty. In the first episode alone she lied to her mother to get out of talking to her and revealed she used to steal her chocolate covered cherries and blame it on pip. As for the rest of the show I had little doubt I was right, especially when the jet had a empty 6th seat and Misty the unicorn kept showing up. Recently in Tell Your Tale The characters have started saying these battle-cry like rhymes announcing their apparent elements. Zipp-bravery Izzy-creativity Pip-confidence Misty-feels? Hitch-kindness Sunny-hope I am not that pleased. I'm not saying they don't represent these things but I don't really think they would create harmony like the true elements, especially creativity. Don't get me wrong, I'm all about creativity, but by itself it doesn't have the same ideology or harmony inducing effect that kindness and generosity have. In fact, if you think about propaganda, it can create discord just as well. As for Hitch, I would not have pegged him for the new element of kindness. But while I would have rejected it at first my feelings actually rose to mixed. It seemed to go against the strong, confident, determined, fearless, somewhat egotistical character we were introduced to in A New Generation, at least being his #1 attribute. But then I thought maybe it makes sense considering how he was always kind to Sunny when they were playing as foals and how he took in Sparky. And maybe it will be interesting to see this kind of character represent kindness like Fluttershy while being the opposite to her in many ways. If nothing else it leans into the fan theory that Hitch is Fluttershy's descendant. As for Zip, the show says loyalty is a reflection of bravery. I like Zip but I was hoping she wouldn't just be a remake of Rainbowdash and she was already looking like that already. I'm liking the fact the new show seems to be properly bringing back some of the core concepts of G4 but I wish they had done it better. Personally I'm hoping they will change it again so they will be the proper elements of harmony. What about you? Do you think these should be the new elements? Do you think my pairing was acurrate?
  6. Of course it was all the dragons, why would just a few hibernate? My own point about the backstory inconsistencies. I know but didn't Spike or anyone think they should at least look into where Sparky came from? Ehhh to a degree. But this isn’t anything new. Remember the Star Wars holiday special? Or the mountains of direct to DVD Disney movies? By "these days" I meant the last 20 years. Should have been more specific. I was indeed thinking of the direct to DVD Disney movies. You think they were bad for you to watch, how do you think I, a child of the 90s felt? in the last 20 years we also seen 90s and 80s movies and tv shows like Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones, Jumanji, Animaniacs, Tiny Toons, Ghostbusters the Wonder Years and all the hits of the Disney Renaissance get dragged out, dusted off and given lousy sequels or remakes. The only thinking they had behind them was to capitalize on nostalgia and existing fan bases. They just pander to fans these days yet give them nothing of what they want. And no effort is made for actual quality of story telling and they have no passion for the art behind them. I know this is nothing new but it just feels it more common place now. And I'm not the only one who thinks so. people have agreed with my saying "we live in an age of creative decline." Which is all the more worse since humanity has a greater ability to create and share works now then any other point in history. Even recent history. .Well I think the reason it's a big act to follow is because those people put in the effort. more then most people these days and more then expected for this show. MY expectations for MYM were high because of A New Generation. Since people put effort into that I assumed they would continue to do so. And to me MYM isn't a show that's only bad when compared to something like FIM. It's bad on it own merits. Actually I've always been impressed by G4's respect for it's lore and continuity.
  7. Yes but it wasn't just 2 ponies. It was a mass smear campaign all over Equestria. And my point is represented here as it was what the Mane Six had taught their pupils about friendship that saved Equestria.
  8. Some of G4 is still held by Discovery Family? Why? And what things specifically? I thought opening a school of friendship was a good way of keeping the show fresh and opening up new possibilities.
  9. What G4 issues are you talking about? And at times, it's almost like G5 is a separate universe.
  10. By "these days" I mean the last 20 years. The 90s was the decade of my childhood. For all I know you're too young to remember you wippersnapper but back in my day it was a great time for movies. The 90s saw the Jurassic Park films, the first CGI film Toy Story, some of Disney's best work ever, even pop-corn movies like Independence Day felt better then the pop-corn movies we have now. The last 20 years have been direct to video sequels, live action remakes, resurrections of beloved franchises that just trample on our childhood, studios pandering to fans while giving them nothing they want. And backpedalling in sequels when the backlash came in which just made things worse. Recently I watched "The General" one of my most beloved childhood movies and I thought how different it was to the films we have today. It was a time when film makers actually cared about quality and making a film stand up on it's own merits. Buster Keaton literally risked his life to make it! Incidentally that film is part of why I chose my user picture. I don't have a problem with a world being big and strong and I never saw it as a problem in FIM. If anything I would have liked to understand the whole planet they were on. Like, if Celestia's work is considered done when the sun is lowered, does that mean their planet is flat? I'm not sure where you stand on actors in cartoons. Personally I don't have a problem replacing a dead or retired voice actor as long as they do a good job. I consider it an advantage of cartoons, it's less noticeable then replacing a live-action actor.
  11. I am a big fan of MLP FIM and A New Generation gave me such hope for the future of the franchise. Numerous references to G4, showing this new team had done their homework. Great songs, voice acting and animation. They even improved the pony's design by including hooves and making them able to use them as grasping hands. Yes I know it looked weird, like they were suction cups or electromagnets but it was also kind of funny. And it was foreshadowed that Earth Ponys were going to get magic. My problem with A New Generation was that it left so many open questions. How and why did Equestria fall? How did society built on friendship and unity split into isolationist xenophobic city-states? Why are there no historical records of the real history? Where did those crystals come from? Why is pony magic connected to them now? Why were they separated? Why did pony magic disappear? Why was there a socket for them in the lighthouse? Did Arglye know about this? What happened to Twilight Sparkle and the other Princesses? What's become of Equestria's other towns and cities? What's become of the Yacks, Griffins, Hippogriffs, Changelings, Kirin, Dragons and other groups Equestria was in touch with? What happened to the Tree of Harmony? Despite this I looked forward to Make Your Mark with hope and optimism but that was eroded chapter by chapter but when I saw the dragons had been redesigned, that was the last straw! I was so outraged I went looking for a site to see how outraged my fellow fans and that's what lead me here, the first MLP fan site I've ever joined. And I was amazed by how little raging against MYM there was, how many people say they like it even that it's better then FIM! Well I've finally gotten around to posting my thoughts on MYM, so get ready for some backlash and remember... it's only because I care. When the first episode of Make Your Mark starts, the first thing I noticed was the come-down in animation, which I can understand but it still subtracts from the enjoyment. And the replaced voice actors were a little off putting, I get that they probably couldn't hire the actor but was it really worth hiring those names for the film? Couldn't you have just used the same ones you planned for the show and spared everyone an awkward transition? Although, to be honest I value the perk animation has over live action. It's less noticeable and easier to replace a voice actor then a regular actor. Overall I felt most of the storytelling was rushed all the dialog and events seemed to come and go really fast without the proper pacing or time to focus on what was important. And this show is supposed to be about multi-culturalism and inclusion? I'm barley picking up on that at all in this show. There's a few episodes involving different pony traditions and holidays but aside from the premier I didn't see any friction that often comes when cultures clash for the first time. And even the first episode didn't do enough with it in my opinion. In episodes like the Traditional Unicorn Sleepover, Portrait of a Princess or the Manescrade Ball, we see the new mane six introduced to aspects and holidays of foreign cultures for the first time. Yet there are no problems adapting to, tolerating or functioning withing these new settings and traditions. Which is a good thing but this show said it was about teaching inclusion and multiculturism. How is it supposed to teach dealing with other people's culture if the all characters just breeze right through it effortlessly? If you want to make it that easy for them you could at least tell us how it's so easy for them. And yet I've heard people say this show is doing a great job, that G4 was about mixing with people within your own world while G5 is about mixing with people beyond your world. Well that would be a good direction for the new series to go in but, as I've said, they just aren't doing a good job. In fact I think G4 did a better job on this subject with episodes like The Hearth's Warming Club and Hearthbreakers. And speaking of all this new culture in the franchise, where did it come from? G4 had a slumber party episode, thrown by Twilight (then a unicorn) and yet had none of the "traditional" elements we see in Izzy's traditional unicorn slumber party. I know some of you MYM supporters will say these traditions developed in the period between shows but for me it's just not a good enough excuse to remake Unicorn, Pegasus and Earth Pony cultures any way you want. Also it would have been better if we were given the rhyme and reasons and history behind these traditions. Like Maretime Bay Day, what are they actually celebrating? And why are ribbon wreaths (something else we've never seen Earth Ponies with) the traditional decoration? And the same things can be said for the other new holidays and traditions they have, what is their history and meaning? In G4 we were not only introduced to holidays like Nightmare Night and Hearth's Warming Eve but the meanings and symbolism of the festivities and decorations. Not only does that make them feel more fleshed-out but they add to the worldbuilding and history of the show's world. In G5, not only are they just flinging out holidays and traditions but by not explaining them to us, they are raising our curiosity and then leaving it unstratified. And by having the show centred on a group of ponies, some of who are as new to these things as we are, all the writers have to do is have them explain to the other ponies and that informs the audience without making it feel forced. But all this pales in comparison to the show's constant continuity errors with G4 and even itself, along with the nonsensical and disappointing answers to the questions left behind by A New Generation. In Izzy Does it, we see the origin of Izzy's wagon which came after Make Your Mark episode one. But it's also clearly shown in Tell Your Tale existing BEREFORE then when Izzy repairs Sunny's lantern. As I will show, it's bad enough they have all these continuity errors with G4 but to have errors with itself?! In Make Your Mark episode one, we get a message from Twilight Sparkle herself, pointing to a few answers but the message itself is a continuity error. This is set after the events of the final episode and from her message and what we later learned, just after Opaline tried to take over and Equestria was sealed off from the rest of their world. So why does Twilight look the way she did throughout the series and not in her fully grown alicorn form? I'll tell you why, because the makers of the show wanted to gain viewers by using her much more well known form. But really you people, would it have been that bad to use her canonical form for a cameo that only lasted minute? Also I assumed the ponies would either repair that message or find another copy so we could hear it in it's entirety. But we never did. Also how did she know Earth Pony magic could be coming? Season/Chapter 2 Episode 6, The Traditional Unicorn Sleep-Over was much, MUCH worse. We got an explanation from Sunny as to what happened in Equestria, which is something I was burning for but it was a HUGE disappointment! "An earth pony got hurt by a unicorn. Everypony started fighting with each other." Are you serious? One argument between 2 ponies sent the ENITRE kingdom into chaos?! That's hard enough to swallow by itself but this is Equstria, a kingdom founded on fraternal love and harmony between ponykind! "The princess, wanting to protect her kingdom and all of the ponies in it, decided to put all magic into 3 crystals before it got out of hoof." Exactly how did creating the unity crystals fix this problem? This was a riot, not some kind of magical event. It wouldn't stop them from fighting. "After that, earth ponies only felt safe with other earth ponies. Unicorns with unicorns and pegasi of a feather flocked together." Why would the unity crystals do that? "The ponies galloped, trotted and flew as far as they could with their crystals. Settling in what would become Zephyr Heights, Bridlewood and Maretime Bay." No no no no no! These two lines are an outrage! Firstly We clearly saw the forgotten station in Zephyr Heights, it had an arrival-departure board with names of multiple towns and cities from FIM. And posters from this same time period showing all 3 ponykinds visiting each other. Indicating that these 3 settlements existed BEFORE Equestria fell! And even if they were built after that, what about Sunny's lighthouse? It had a socket for all 3 crystals, indicating they were all kept there and NOT separated before it's founding! And if this is how pony kind lost their magic, how come there's no record of it or their real history? How is it a big mystery to them how they lost magic? And wouldn't they have known that's what would happen if they separated the crystals? And again there is no way a nation like Equestria would just break up into isolationist, mono species, xenophobic city states just like that. "We pieced together the crystal part ourselves." You pieced the story together? From what?! And why would you do that writers? Don't you know you can use that mystery to build a compelling story? Have you ever heard of a video game called Horizon? It plunges you into a world with tons of questions that demands explanation. And that explanation is trickled in as you follow the story yet raises more questions that compels you to learn more. You could have done the same thing. And some might say this explanation isn't cannon anyway. Well what's it doing here then?! Being presented as truth?! Especially when it's in the scenario used to bring lied-to characters around to realising the truth. Season 4 Episode 05: The Manesquerade Ball. There's a book on the alicorns of Equestria, a written record of pre-fall Equestria and the Pegasi had it in their library THIS WHOLE TIME?! How is it they all lost their history, that's a big part of A New Generation! Season 5 Episode 2 & 3 Family Trees. It was good that they brought the Breezies back, finally one of the G4 races brought back and they did a good job with them. But do they live inside the tree? Is the tree a portal to their world? How come they've never appeared before? How did Misty bring the Breezies into Bridalwood? But the biggest problem is that we never got an explanation as to how Misty got separated from her dad. She found that door and it sent her somewhere else? We just saw it doesn't work without a key and it's not on the Wishing Tree (and we never got to know why it's called that either) This event is a huge part of Misty's backstory, it's a big part of this two part episode and we don't get an explanation? Also, Sunny has seen something like the key before? What? Never answered. And I think misty looks better with that new mane colour but couldn't they have just designed it that way from the start? Now she's got to dye her mane in every episode? Season 5 Episode 4 Father of the Bridlewood. apparently the character Elderflower is the great great great great nice of Moondancer. A separation of that number of generations is not enough to be considered ancient. Season 6 Episode 01: The Isle of Scaly. I had been trying to like this new show and hold onto hope it would get better. But this one pushed me right over the edge! Dragons are QUADRUPEDAL NOW?!!! It goes without saying that in G4 dragons are clearly BIPEDAL! HOW did they overlook this obvious detail!? Or think we wouldn't notice or care?! It's bad enough when people who take over a franchise redesign characters, history, magic systems and places. But the actual anatomy of the creatures?! As bad a job as Disney did with Star Wars at least they knew not to make the wookies walk on all fours! And to add to the stupidity, the show also has a BIPEDAL baby dragon! What the in hay writers?! How can you change the dragons to quadrupedal AND have one bipedal?! How does that even work?! Oh and they have cutie marks and magic now? Although it would explain that thing spike can do with scrolls. Oh and the Dragon Lands, a harsh land full of volcanos, are an now a tropical island? And speaking of Spike, he's back, not that surprising but he's dragon lord now? What happened to Ember?! You can't just put him in Ember's seat writers. Why couldn't you have him among the dragons but still have Ember there as dragon lord? Would that have been so hard? And not only is he quadrupedal they got his eyes wrong too. they are not supposed to be round but vertical slits! Seriously Entertainment One, Atomic Cartoons, did you even WATCH G4?! So we get the full explanation now, from Spike who was actually there. Opaline was banished from Skyros, the alicorn land. Alicorns are a full ponykind now and are born? Even though it is CLEARLY stated in Friendship Is Magic Season 6 Episode 1 – The Crystalling (Part 1) that alicorns need to earn their wings and horns and the birth of one is unheard of. I've learned since then that "The Journal of the Two Sisters" says Alicorns are born but to me, in show trumps other media. Although I expect there are journal purists who will be quite happy about this. So Opaline used dark magic to become a fire alicorn, an event which clashes with Opaline's own backstory about being born a fire alicorn (whatever that means.) And Twilight created the crystals and the dragon stone to hide the magic from Opaline. How does doing that "hide" the magic from her? Wouldn't concentrating it all into defined objects in fact make it easier to steal it as opposed to it being all over Equestria? Twilight sent the dragons to the island to hide them, how does being in hibernation hide them? Wouldn't that make them more vulnerable to Opaline? Why hibernate? How long were they supposed to stay like that, forever? If she did put a spell around Equestria, wouldn't it make sense to do the same thing for the Isle of Scaley? And Opaline did this to Equestria? The Mane 6 defeated super powerful magical threats time and time again, how was Opaline more then they could handle? And what happened to the other nations and races outside Eqestria? Have they just been crowded around it's boarders this whole time? Season 6 Episode 3 & 4 Roots of All Evil. And now we come to the epic climax, that which needs to go better then anything before it. We get a complex and hastily explained magic system regarding the Together Trees, Opaline is wearing a chest piece with places for 6 cutie marks when she didn't know Misty had betrayed her and so was only after 5. Where did that G1 pendant come from and why is it here other then pandering? You can't jut throw a new element into the story at the last minute and not make it understood the audience. Opaline tried to pull a "we're not so different" moment without anything to really back it up. Spike can now teleport anyone from anywhere? Isn't that a little over powered? Sparky gets to live with his adopted father but who are his real parents? As Dragon Lord, wouldn't Spike feel a responsibility to return him to them? And then right at the end, without a moment to take a breath, we get a last minute teaser for a whole new adventure. Shouldn't this be the moment when all is well and wrapped up? And as for Secrets of Starlight, we were disappointed that it had nothing to do with Starlight Glimmer. We get a new pony kind, the aurora-corn, which would normally be nice but we learn nothing about what they are and what kind of magic they have and there are so many G4 races still to reintroduce, do we really need to clog up that process by adding new ones now? What's the origin of the aurora-corns? How come they've never heard of Equestria? The stars in the Equestrian sky are really gemstones just above the atmosphere? Ever since season 1 of FIM I've known their world has a kind of child-like, mythic quality. With the sun and moon orbiting the world and having to be manually moved. This star thing keeps in with that but what does that mean for the wider universe? Why are the stars keys out of it. Why can Allurea just leave? Is Starlight Ridge in another reality like Canterlot High? How dumb is Alurea if she was fooled at all by that arts and crafts project? The snow all over Starlight Ridge is a cure for Alurea's mind-control?! How has she been able to do that with the cure literally all around? All together I would say that while Entertainment One Boulder Media did an acceptable, even admirable job of adopting MLP from Allspark Animation and DHX Studios... Entertainment One and Atomic Cartoons did a worse job adopting it then Disney adopting Star Wars from Lucasfilm. I'm not a big Star Wars fan but even I cringed watching those films. Like one of those Star Wars fans who just want to pretend Disney never made those films, I almost want to refuse to acknowledge them. Like Quibblepants refused to acknowledge the later Daring Do books. In fact I have so much against MYM and am thinking of saying more in the individual episode sections, I'm thinking of changing my user name to some variation on Quibblepants. This show started out with such promise, such potential and had so much established lore, history and world building to work with. And I've just seen it get misused and mangled by people who don't seem to know what they are doing or don't care. In fact I've come to feel that these days the media industry no longer cares about it's audience. The big studios seem to think they can do whatever they want with whatever franchise, no matter how precious it is to fans and still make a ton of money out of it. And what's worse is that it seems to work out just like that over and over. All the questions left behind by A New Generation, that could have been a great way to build the new show and fill it's story with captivating content, have either been left unanswered with no apparent intention to answer them or just had an unfulfilling answer conveniently dumped out. The continuity with G4 and G5's own storytelling is so broken, I think best if not only way to fix it is for Hasbro to declare everything after A New Generation non-cannon and bring in someone like Boulder Media to remake the whole series from scratch. In fact, since I've heard there will be no more G5 episodes this year, I think we should use this window to circulate a petition to have Hasbro do just that. Some of you might say that MYM has a big act to follow in FIM and that's why it didn't work out but I say these new people didn't put in an effort or care what we fans would think, either in it's connection to FIM or in it's own quality. I believe art is a serious matter and people have no excuse for not trying. And that concludes my essay on Make your Mark, it is the reason I joined this community and it took me 4 days to fully put together.
  12. Seriously it has to be Queen Haven and Alphabittle. Why isn't that a choice? Those two are so good together, if it wasn't a kid's cartoon I would say you could feel the heat of passion radiating off the screen. I'd like it if they got married in future episodes. It would make Zipp, Pipp and Misty sisters! How sweet would that be? Alphabittle would move into Zephyr Heights and it would be an opportunity for an episode about dealing with you parent remarrying and with stepparents. Also I ship Dragon Lord Spike with Dragon Lord Ember. We need some reason for him to have gained the title. I like to think Spike finally saw that what he and Rarity had was just a young boy's crush and when he accepted they were just going to be friends it opened his eyes to new possibilities, specifically Ember.
  13. The ages of the mane 6 were always hard to pin down. Rarity's living on her own and running a shop but she has a little sister in elementary school, that's quite a gap for siblings. Also I just realized, Sweetiebell's in elementary school in Equestria but her human doppelganger's in high school.
  14. I know and when I saw that I thought we were getting a set up for the future of the series instead of a concept which was just abandoned.
  15. I do too. Wouldn't mind EG continued as a regular novel either.
  16. So what does this mean for G5? Is it all ending? Is Tell your Tale going to become the show? I heard TYT is continuing on for this year while Make your Mark isn't. Does this mean all of G5 dies by 2025? Or is the 3D show going to continue under a new name? If they plan to transform TYT from shorts into a full series, I think it would be an improvement. I've enjoyed TYT MUCH more then MYM. It's on-par 2D animation is more palatable then MYM's sub-par 3D animation. The songs are better and there's something about the writing that's better too. I especially like the episodes where the coming of pony magic changed everything for florists and magicians. Also TYT has covered some gaps in the lore that MYM overlooked. If the 3D show continues under a new name let's hope they do it in a proper series format instead of those "chapters."
  17. For me I think Equestria Girls peaked with the Legend of Everfree. From what happened in that film I assumed Equestria Girls would transition into some kind of superhero show and we would find out where those geode pendants came from. But despite all this potential, Hasbro just let it slide. Here's how I would have improved Equestria Girls. I would have established Equestria Girls as a tv series set after the events of Legend of Everfree, named after the superhero team they formed. And no it would not be called the Power Ponies. The first season would follow the girls fighting human criminals and occasionally dealing with magical artifacts created by Equestrian magic leaking into the human world. With the media obsessing over these mysterious superheroes. Episode one would have them given a box like the Chest of Harmony. Occasionally episodes would, bit by bit, cover the origin, nature and number of the portals between Earth and Equestria. How visitors from Equestria were the source of many Earth myths, especially Greek ones. And eventually the origin of the geode pendants. Which was that this magic was sent by the Tree of Harmony to be found by the girls, that they might protect their world from any magical threats. Choosing them for the same reason their pony doppelgangers were chosen At one point, in a two-part season finale, a human tries to destroy the portal outside Canterlot High to save earth from these mounting magical threats. To which the girls counter with the knowledge that there are many other portals across the world. Or possibly a human force tries to invade Equestria to seize it's exotic power. Or better yet, a combination of both. Either way, Sunset Shimmer sacrifices herself in some epic battle but is reborn as an alicorn. Their chest turns into a castle for Sunset. It contains a new portal to Equestria and a throne room for her and her friends. It's purpose is to provide a place where people can travel freely between the two worlds and headquarters for it's protectors. Sunset is crowned a Princess, whose duty is guarding the boarder of the two worlds, protecting each world from any threats coming from the other and maintaining peace. A position helped with her super friends. And no that's not the name of the team either but it could be a joke in the show. In the next season we have Princess Sunset Shimmer and the girls still fighting crime and dealing with magical threats while travel is established between Earth and Equestria. We also follow how humanity reacts and adapts to the reality that magic is real. I've long thought that such a revelation would be the biggest thing in human history, dwarfing even first contact with aliens and trigging a huge change about how we fundamentally think of everything. Also, almost every show or movie I've ever seen involving supernatural elements acts like there's this unwritten rule it has to be kept secret at all costs. Also, in Legend of Everfree, it looked like Flash Sentry was going to move on from Princess Twilight and possibly get back together with Sunset Shimmer. This series would follow that, maybe Flash and Sunset do get back together, maybe Sunset help Flash Princess Twilight get together instead, or probably I'd have love triangle develop but it's still resolved perfectly. That is how I would have improved Equestria Girls.
  18. Apology accepted. Nitpickers can get to me too, when my family saw A Christmas carol with Jim Carry, my mother kept complaining that none of the characters he was voicing looked like Carry. I'm different to you. I was in the theatres when each of the Jurassic Park films came out. I love each of them, even the 3rd one. But I didn't enjoy any of the Jurassic world films. You mentioned the new Star Wars trilogy, I think it's interesting how it and Jurassic World trilogy mirror each other. The 1st one was a remake of the original. The 2nd messed up it's potential and let down the fans. The 3rd tried to backpedal from it's mistakes which only made it more annoying and thought it could fix it by bringing in more of the original cast. Incidentally the Jurassic World Evolution games are the only games I've ever played that were better then the movies.
  19. This has nothing to do with entitlement, I don't believe Hasbro owes me anything. MLP FIM was intended to be a generic show and sell toys to little girls. But the writers, actors and artists went far beyond that and created something of real quality and a surprising attention to the show's established lore. Is it entitlement if you have your expectations raised by people who actually care about their craft or to complain when the continuity errors pile up? I don't have a problem with a new format for the new show, FIM taught kids how to function with people in their own society, idea of teaching kid how to function with people from other cultures sounds like a good way to take the show to the new level. My problem is the overall dip in quality from it's predecessor and it's own short comings. I know people can't have things their own way, probably better then you frankly, but that doesn't excuse artists from not making an effort. Indeed I was just saying the overall quality of entertainment coming out of Hollywood feels like it's been in decline for 20 years now and recently hit a low point. And yet the big studios keep making bank out of bad quality, perhaps because some just seem happy to watch anything. MLP FIM was a rare exception, especially for a toy-based show. So yes I am upset by the way these new people have mangled what could have been a worththy successor. And that I am called entitled because I dare to complain. If we are to go with the flow, Hollywood will continue to drag the artform into the mud and make nothing but garbage. I get what you're saying but I don't want to be one of those people who went mad for Rise of Skywalker just because they brought back the emperor.
  20. I absolutely hate it. A New Generation gave me hope for the future of the series but that hope has been dashed! It left us with so many unanswered questions but they could have used that. The series could have followed the new ponies as they sought to uncover the past by finding clues, relics and visiting old locations. Instead they just info dumped it in the slumber party episode seemingly having the ponies pull this info out of nowhere! We all speculated as to what could possibly break up a nation like Equestria and how they lost their history and I think we were all expecting something epic. Turns out two ponies got into a fight, everyone just turned on each others kind and then they just decided to stop teaching history in school. That is one of the most pathetic explanations they could have written! And then there are the NUMEROUS plot holes, lore disrespecting and continuity errors that G5 has not only with G4 but even with itself. So many that I can't be bothered to name them all here. But what really pushed me over the edge was the arrival of the dragons. Spike is dragon lord now? What happened to Ember? Since when has the dragonlands been a lush tropical island? Dragons have cutiemarks and specific magic now? But what really boiled my fan-blood is that DRAGONS ARE QUADREDPIEDAL NOW?! As mad as continuity errors make me, there is NO EXCUSE for completely redesigning a specie's physical form, doing it without explanation or expecting fans to just go along with it! It's not like the artists and writers could have missed the fact they were bipedal in G4! And what's worse, SPARKY IS BIPEDIAL! You can't redesign a fantasy species to quadrupedal AND have a bipedal version at the same time! Whoever adopted this show from the G4 team, they've done a worse job then Disney adopted Star Wars from Lucas. At lest they knew not to tinker with the overall physical form of any of the species! And on top of all of this, the new show was supposed to cover functioning with other cultures outside your ow. But personally I have seen very little of this in G5 and G4 actually seemed to cover this better. Make your Mark is such a mangled mess that I think the only way to fix it would be to declare it all non-cannon and start it over agaon from the end of A New Generation.
  21. "Everything is back to the way it was before Equestria fell?" What about all the villages, towns and cities Equestria had before it fell? We don't even get to see what's left of them. Equestria is still not a kingdom but 3 independent city-states, in this state I don't see how ponykind can reclaim it's lost territory. What about it's knowledge of magic? So far it seems Misty (according to TYT) is the only one learning actual spells. What about their relationships with other creatures? They brought back the Dragons and even the Breezies but what happened to the Changelings, Griffins, Hippogriffs, Yacks, Diamond Dogs and the Kirin? And if you count the crystal ponies, ponykind is still not united. And I wasn't satisfied at all with the ending. The New Generation movie left us with so many questions about how Equestria broke up and it's history lost. So it turns out all pony kind split up because two ponies got into an argument? And everyone just forgot their history? That is perhaps one of the most disappointing answers they could have possibly have written. I'm genially baffled as to how so many fans are ok with G5.
  22. My Favourite Mane 6 Pony Pinkie Pie, never knew what was going to happen next when she was around. But I also like Applejack because both of us are honest to a fault. And Rainbowdash for her dynamic personality and confidence. How did I find MLP Forums? I had just seen Make Your Mark chapter 6 and I was not happy with what I had seen. For the first time I went looking for MLP forums to see what other people thought about it and make voice my thoughts myself. That's when my internet search brought me here. How you became a fan of My Little Pony I was vaguely aware of the show's existence for a time before I saw it but I dismissed it without seeing it as a show for little girls. Then around the time the first Equestria Girls film came out, I was looking at some pokemon videos on Youtube when I came across this MLP parody of it. I think next to it on the right there was Raise This Barn and out of curiosity I clicked on it. I still wasn't sold on it, at first I thought the repeated lyric of "1-2-3-4" meant the show was for pre-school education. But it was enough for me to check out the show from the first episode. And though I found it a predicable story and typical of a kid's show there was something that spoke to me and compelled me to keep watching. And soon I was hooked. What did I like about the show? I loved the art style and the memorable songs but what I loved the most was the writing. They manged to blend the episodic with arcs and that's not always easy to pull off. I liked how they put in a pop-culture reference now and then but did it in a way that you could still enjoy the episode if you didn't know the reference. Like that pony who was a parody of JJ Jamerson from spiderman. If you knew who it was supposed to be you'd smile and enjoy the joke. And if you'd never seen Jamerson you could still watch it without drawing a blank because the situation involved a reference didn't depend on it. Most shows, especially kids shows, follow the mantra "The stats quo is God." I loved how MLP were willing to make changes and stick with them, like Twilight becoming an alicorn and getting a castle. Many shows set up a character with a goal but end before the ever reach it. MLP was different with Rainbowdash finally becoming a Wonderbolt or the CMCs getting their cutie marks. I blows my mind that this kind of show, that wasn't planned out from the start, was willing to do that. And they managed to keep what we loved about the show while freshening it up by expanding it in new ways. Like the cutie map missions and the school of friendship. I also admired how they kept consistent to the continuity, like when we had that flashback to Applejack's parents and they remembered to include Nightmare moon as the mare in the moon. But what I loved most of all about the show was the fact they were willing to do all of this. This probably started out as a way for Hasbro to make money by recycling an existing property and create a show preaching worn-out lessons and sell merchandise. But the writers put way more effort into their art then they needed to which is something I think is all too rare in media. And as a result, not only did MLP FIM become a global sensation with conventions and a movie but they made a continuance of the show over a reboot. I think this show should be an example to the media industry that success isn't focus-grouped pandering, merchandising or thinking kids will love anything bright and colourful. It's a quality product well made. Why did you join? Honestly I wanted to voice my disappointment over Make Your Mark. But also I was tempted by what the admins said about how these site could make you friends. I've always had trouble with relationships and making friends. When I watch FIM it often made me realise I didn't have what Twilight had, the kind of friendships where you could take a group picture and tell anyone details of everyone else in it. And yet when I didn't have friends, it made me feel like I did. I was hoping maybe this might fix that.
  23. If this is about what I said on your post at DevieantArt, I still stand by what I and Dr Wolf said. It in NOT "all right there" I complained that G5 had Twilight in her normal form as opposed to the Celestia sized form she had in the final episode, after which G5 is set. You said Luna changed her form when she became Nighmaremoon so Twilight could have done the same thing. But Luna used her magic to transform herself into a more powerful version once, that doesn't mean alicorns are shapeshifters or changelings. I complained that alicorns are made not born and the show was changing that to say that had always been born. You said that the journal of the two sisters sated that alicorns were born. But The Crystalling episode CLEARLY says that it was something that had never happened and a big mystery. So if there was some dispute by the writers on this issue I'd say it's been seald now. I complained there were so many continuity errors and lore tampering. You said there were continuity errors and lore tampering in G4 so we should let them do it. Well on seccon thought there were one or two errors in G4 but that DOESN'T mean it's ok for these new writers to make whatever they want now. Well if that's true then the G5 analyst community must be very close/narrow minded. If you refuse to consider or even hear any negative opinions anyone else might have. Well I am not one of those people who just "enjoys the ride" when it comes to their entertainment. If I were I would have had no problem with Pacific Rim. And I can't help but compare it to G4 because they're not entirely separate shows. If G5 had been a reboot, I'd have no problem with the dragon redesign. But it is NOT, it is a CONTINUATION, like the Last Airbender and Legend of Korra or Star Trek and Star Trek: The Next Generation. It's ok to add some new elements to the lore and expand upon the world and magic systems. And if there have been a few changes to the status quo you can infer what happened without a direct explanation for everything. Like how Zuko's daughter is now Fire Lord or the new uniforms in The Next Generation. I don't need the show to give me an explanation, I can infer what happened myself. But the changes and differences in G5 are just too BIG to swallow without explanation. And even if there were an explanation I doubt it would be a good one. You said we could infer what happened to the dragons between G4 and 5 and that meant nothing was amiss. But it's not that the writers left it up to us to work out what obviously happened, they didn't say anything because it's not THERE! There is no reason the dragons have 4 legs now, they just went ahead and did it without a care and thinking we wouldn't care. You know, I've been a big fan of G4 for years, it's only recently that I joined the online MLP community. And the first post I make I get hammered because I object to the workmanship of the new show. Celestia forbid I have any problems at all with this continuation, be baffled at how other fan are so accepting of it or express a negative opinion in a thread that asks "What did you think of chapter 6"
  24. With all due respect I can't believe everyone is loving chapter 6! Everything was so rushed, so many plotlines left unresolved, the fact the dragons were hibernating made no sense and it was LOADED with more continuity errors then all of Make Your Mark COMBINED! Chapter 6 killed what little hope I had left for the show's future quality and it will take a GIGANTIC effort to bring it back. The show's world building is so mangled and broken I think the only way to fix it is to declare it non-cannon and start over from A New Generation.
