Will MLP go 3D someday?

Well, I hope not. Because if you wanted to have a TV show with CGI, then good luck. Because for TV shows, CGI would be under a strict budget.

We can take a look at one TV show back in 2002-ish, Jimmy Neutron which took advantage out of it. Except the advantage was to make the characters look odd. MLP character's are supposed to go towards the more "cute" style instead of strange or abstract.

I'd say we would have to wait until CGI becomes much, much cheaper.

Likely the next gen will be 3D, as the animation costs for it continue to get cheaper over time. The art style will be different, of course. Due to the popularity of FiM, they'll likely just modify the style enough to make it work better for 3D models plus some flair from whoever ends up as the lead art director.

@@A.V., did you do those models or did you find them somewhere? I'm curious what software was used.

Found them on WarePWn3's DeviantART page.

An argument I'd like to point out to counter my last post, only for the sake of looking at different viewpoints, is the fact I heard MLP: FiM was animated in Flash, which is notorious for its use on crap like Johnny Test; In which Johnny Test involved agonizingly non-human movement.

So if they could find out how to pull off how to make a program that the average Newgrounds user has, then I'm sure they could do something about something that requires OpenGL or DirectX.

Just a fun and somewhat pointless fact the same people who make FiM Made Johnny Test.

Since, as several people noted, the angles are inconsistent with each other, they'd have to change the art style.

Also, chances are they'd have to hire a different animation studio, and if we're talking 3D it won't be cheap.

3D works well for plenty of movies/series, but I think that 2D suits the happy, lively MLP:FiM much better.

(edited)

I don't like the (3D) stuff so I hope not but if so does not mean I am gonna stop watching it...

however if a side show of G4 was 3d (for example G1 had My little pony tales and G3 had....3.5 and for some reason G3's side show had a side show New born cuties XD

anyway so if they go 3D it can still be G4 however it has to be another G4 series (as many may count as G5 as people did the the G1 series My little pony tales was G2

(actually it is G1 XD)

so if so put it in a G4 series apart from this one...

The way you say it makes it sound like 3D is the next logical step for all animation. It's really not. There is no reason whatsoever to go to 3D unless it was a conscious design decision.

You did not, the sideview doesn't fit the ones in the show now. This one is more realistic, I do admit that's a good looking model though, so props to the artist.

Personally, I've always felt the front view is more important anyway.

I certainly hope they never go this route, the style they have now is perfect for the show. Maybe it's just me but there's something about CGI ponies that just makes me cringe.

I used to make fun of Carebears or should I say Flaretears but they should still keep the show 2-D I mean if they change it or at least with clay animation it wouldn't even seem like true MLP and I wouldn't like it anymore DUE TO GRAPHICS and that would just suck.
