Hey guys. I've been trying to get into D&D out of curiosity. I'm good at making up stories on the fly, and I love games where I have to build it as I play. But... the rules could fill up a book that could put the bible to shame when it comes to shame. So, I was hoping there was someone who could help me out on the basics in making a character and playing the game. If you can help me, then PM so we can talk further.

To be honest I've never played the games I just read the forgotten realms area of the d&d realm. T w o major characters you'll hear about are Elminster of ShadowDale and Drizzt Do'Urden.

Drizzit is awesome. You can play as him in Dark Alliance.

I'm in three campaigns right now. One as a Druid Drow Elf recently banished from the Underdark. One as a young half-elf natural born weretiger Rogue. And lastly MASSIVELY OP half-dragon/human who dual weilds two Collosal sized Busterswords aptly named Cloud Strife.

 

It all depends on who's the DM, when building a character and playing the game, for you can get some pretty crazy stuff going on. However if it's just a basic play through first choose a Class, then Race, and base your stat rolls on that. Also take your time when making your character, for as you pretty much said the possibilities are endless.

 

If you got specific questions you want answered give me a shout.

 

However I play the 3.5 version, so...if that's a prob, I don't know anything beyond it.

I have a ton of old D&D stuff but I don't have any 3rd ed or newer. But I hear Pathfinder is good. You should get that.

Yes he is amazing. I truly love R.A. Salvatore's w writing style. I've read every single Drizzt story and even the ones with Artemis and Jaraxle. God's I love Jaraxle XD

There are a few rulesets within D&d itself, so it depends on what setting/campaign you're playing, what edition, etc. I'll see if i can dig up some of my old material and give you a PM.
