Seems To Be That Alicorns Are Not Unique To MLP

I remember back when I was younger Neopets was quite popular among people my age. It was a very addicting site and it was enjoyable.

But I just noticed this, apparently you can own Alicorns as pets in the game. So it turns out Alicorns are not Unique to MLP and Neopets has had Alicorns for a long time.

They are called Uni's.

On a side note does anyone remember Neopets or still use the site?

I liked neopets.  but my things always starved and i'd forget the passwords, lost at all the games, so it was never fun to me.

winged unicorns are actually pretty old.  here's some interesting wiki things i found

"A winged unicorn. The term alicorn came into use in this meaning in the late 20th century."

"In some literature and media, it is also referred to as an alicorn, which is a historical word for the horn of a unicorn.[1]"

Well isn't that a surprise lol

Let us take a moment and pay our respects to our Neopet ancestry.

(and every other winged-unicorn from history that came before it)

Well, winged and horned horses are not exactly a fresh idea. The idea has been used before, as some older D&D games included "winged pegasi" (but in D&D pegasi lay eggs, and a bunch of other odd activities), so it does not surprise me to see that Alicorns existed elsewhere as well.

As for Neopets, Mine would always die, or I'd just forget to log in for months at a time.

Winged unicorns have been around for quite some time, though never actually named as "alicorns" till much more recently. British military actually used them in the emblem for their airborne divisions as far back as WWII:

Oh my god, Neopets. I was so into that when I was a kid, I could spend hours upon hours on that site. I checked in on this site like a year ago, seems it's riddled with micro transactions now.

Alicorns are just as unique to MLP as unicorns, pegasi, griffins, dragons, hydras, and ... well, pretty much any creature on the show. In other words ... not at all. The uniqueness lies in how you interpret these creatures and their environment.

Man, Neopets. My mom was so into those years ago. I think she sold her account though. I'm pretty sure I still have my old account from 2005. Back in 2012, I actually thought that FiM was just a marketing fad that the teen girls and internet users were into, the latest cute, colorful and girly thing to grab the Internets attention, much like Neopets was. I actually pit the two against eachother in a poll to see who would come out on top. I was a bit surprised back then by how much of a landslide MLP won by.

Last time I visited was back in 2010. My pets could probably use a snack.

It was a natural progression to combine Pegasus and unicorn but MLP may have come up with the idea of calling them alicorns. Definitely popularized it anyway. In mythology alicorn is the material unicorn horns are made of. And possibly on the show too. Probably that's what the alicorn amulet is made of.

Checked your age in your profile. It was blank. :worry:
I don't recognize the art or the site. And I am old old.

I heard the word Alicorn first when watching FIM, so to me, it is new.

I don't think I had heard the word alicorn until it was used in FiM

winged unicorns though crop up all over; for example, Disney's "sofia the first" has them.
