What's up with the baby Phoenix

Why did many people complain about Spike "stealing" the Phoenix egg? What the hell is wrong with it?

Put yourselves in the situation:

You grab an egg that didn't hatch and had fallen from it's nest. The parents and the other babies all left to an unkown place and you are about to be beaten up by some dragons that already proved to be waY stronger than you.

Do you:

A ) Fight the dragons and chase the birds and give the egg back.

B ) Run with the egg and raise it as your own giving lots of love and care to it.

C ) Ditch it and run.

Honestly, most of us would choose C, and maybe a really small percentage could choose B, but no one would choose A.

It's true that maybe Twilight could have defeated the dragons, but the parents had already gotten away, how was she supposed to find them?

I would choose A, because I'm not a wimp

I realize that some people might be dumb enough to fight, and spike wasn't exactly alone. But I know you wouldn't put the egg back

I honestly don't agree with spike keeping the baby phoenix. Don't get me wrong though I agree it was the best thing to do to take it from the dragons, but I think after that they could of gone to princess Celestia who has a phoenix. Wouldn't it be smarter to have Philomena help raise it and teach it how to be a phoenix? Meh, that's just my opinion though, it's just what I would have thought to do.

If they had fought, the egg would have been smashed anyway but not intentionally. Besides, the nest was destroyed and if animal instinct means anything, a bird will never return to a nest that has been attacked. It's too risky. And with babies? You can't save them all...

Besides, it could even just be a plot device that will bring in more Celestia and her phoenix!

AND! It's kind of a cute ending because Spike, the adopted baby dragon, now has his own orphan companion. It almost seemed like closure.

In that case, though, then wouldn't it have been better to never have the episode? The whole point was basically, "It doesn't matter where you came from, it's who you are that counts". Learning how to be a phoenix shouldn't matter; especially since all the animals on that show seem to be sentimental and cognitive like humans

I think its kinda sad that the egg was separated from the family, but the way I look at it,

Spike can relate to this little guy and honestly I think spike and twilight show allot of love and care to him. I am interested how its gonna play in the story. Hopefully some baby phoenix episodes

You're taking what I said the wrong way, I didn't mean anything that contradicts the theme of the episode, I just generally think the phoenix would be more well suited with another phoenix. Based on the story line thus far, phoenixes aren't to par with dragons or ponies, they're at about the same level of other normal animals, the level being that they can't talk but have regular interactions with those who can. And plus with another phoenix around wouldn't you think it would be a bit easier for him/her to learn not only who she/he is but also still learn the magics of what phoenixes can do? I mean if there were a local dragon i'm positive spike would do the same. We still know nothing about his past or where his egg came from, but that doesn't mean that other animals/creatures have to go through the EXACT same thing spike did, I mean look at all of Fluttershys animals, you don't think that one of them could have been an endangered egg/baby in which she took the liberty to help but as well as that tried to at least find the family? All in all it's just my opinion, i'm not bashing the moral of the story I just thought the wiser thing to to would be go to Celestia for help with the phoenix that's all.

I would do what Spike did. After all since it hatched and was the first thing he saw it'd never go back to it's parents anyways and we'd have another Student of Trollestia with Philomena as an adoptive mommy...C'mon Celestia already has her hooves full with that bird and possibly Luna alone...So Spike did the right thing. Besides now he has someone to chase away anypony who tries to wake him up during naptime.

Although, Twilight seems to already have 2 pets. I always wanted to know what a baby phoenix growing up would be like.

Well, that has already(obviously) been a concern that Spike had to deal with himself and his past. I think it would be best if Spike taught the phoenix to live among ponies like himself, and have a happily ever after!

Great adventuring for great treasures!....Except when I'm hurt...
