Just discovered this band. They're brilliant, and the video to this song is hilarious. It's sort of thrash metal combined with hardcore punk.

Lamb of God - Redneck

That's metalcore bro. But I will agree, that video is amusing as fuck. Such an innocent party too! OH, and since you posted Redneck, this is just for you.

Here's my favourite track from that album.

Edit: Groove Thra- fuck it, I still stand by my opinion.

Crispy's posting old screamo, watch out, everyone.

I loved that band all through high school. The first two albums were fantastic, then they just kinda dropped off the map for me.

Solid dudes, fun show. Not the best sound as it was recorded on a shit camera, but skip to 9:30 after you get your fill of it.

It's heavy and I like the highs. Not so sure about the mastering... Sounds unsubstantial to me. The chugs don't hit that thumpy tone that I enjoy, and the drums seem understated. Thoughts?

The drums feel blocky. I like strong drum mixes but this is one of those types where it feels a bit too technical to the point where whenever you feel the bass drum hit or a snare hit, all you can go is "meh".

Chugs don't have that thump because of the overall tuning. I know its a Djent song (I think) but to me the tone sounds too experimental to have a lot of dirty chugs.

I think... Djent confuses me. Edited by Skullet Pony

I agree with you on the drums, but I dunno. This tuning is similar and the chugs touch me in all the right places.

Might be the speed that it's played at, but there are other bands that achieve the same thing with speed.

Also, what is with Djent and space images?

I dunno. I'm not an avid Djent fan so I feel a bit unbeknowst. With that being said, when I think chugs I generally think dirty, raw and black - essentially sledgehammer material.

Might be the speed that it's played at, but there are other bands that achieve the same thing with speed.

Then it might be the band itself. Not that they're bad, but they usually play at a different speed, so other songs they play at other speeds may sound off?

Also, what is with Djent and space images?

Well, they gotta have a monacre in something. Viking metal has vikings, Folk metal has fantasy, Black has morbidity and Djent has space!

I don't really appreciate how closely the drums follow the guitar.. :/ You kind of lose some of the gutiar tone behind it, since they're both going at the same time. Though I do like that guy's screams.

I don't see what you're talking about.

I haven't seen very much Fear Factory posted here. This was one of the first metal bands I really latched onto and still thoroughly enjoy them.

Another band that falls into that category, but even more so than Fear Factory is Machine Head. Let's just forget that Supercharger ever happened.

Machine Head and Fear Factory. Sweet picks - don't know why I forgotten about Through The Ashes... though, that's one of their stellar return to greatness albums!

3IOB, if you look at the lyrics, is New Age Power Metal at its finest, its fantastic! Sonata Arctica is power metal too, but I know little of them. Just that their latest album don't hold up to their previous ones.

Hence the term guilty pleasure. :P Even though they all sound the same, I'd like to think that everyone has one unique song they like from them. But coming from a Thrash addict, that's probably not true.

Anyway, check these two out.

Two extreme doses of EPIC, just for you... and for me... and for anyone else that actually listens.

Holy crap, these are both exactly what I was looking for. Leave it to NNL to give me all that I need in my metal needs. I loved the vocals in both so much, especially the chorus in Dystopia. Now I'm gonna have to go look up more Iced Earth and Symphony X. That was epic as hell and I'll be all over this genre now. Might even beat out my favorites: Thrash and Melodic Death.

In that case, you won't really need me now. @ knows a shit ton on the genre and can recommend much more than I ever could.

Ah but I'll still have to thank you for showing me what you did. Awesome stuff is awesome.

Loving that Korpiklaani song earlier in the thread too (Hunting Song), I love the fiddle part being incorporated. I've listened to Korpiklaani before because of you so I know I liked them but do their other songs also use the fiddle? I always think violins, celli and the like go great with metal. Definitely made Metallica's S&M album amazing. (S&M One > And Justice For All One, same with Master of Puppets)

Is Djenty a fan of Death?

Anyway, I'm gonna post what may be one of the greatest, if not the greatest (yes this beats SYL's Exciter cover, yes this beats Death's Painkiller cover @) Judas Priest cover ever. And I mean EVER.

Eh, I didn't find the Painkiller cover to be spectacular. So sure, I'll agree with you.

Not a bad cover/remix.

And there you go. My favorite Metallica song.

I was taking a look at some Eluveitie after Infinite Sky reminded me of them. I like this song for the pace and the mixture of styles incorporated.

Brilliant. I love the sort of breakdown sections after each verse. And the vocalist is amazing. The balance between the growls and borderline normal singing is stellar.

So, anyways, this song has been stuck in my head today. You've probably all heard it, but it's a classic.

Their stuff varies a lot, and Evocation was really an experimental album. Here's another great song that uses the same element as Meet The Enemy. Slania and Helvetios are my favorite albums from them.

And here's something a little different. They typically sing in their native tongue, but this song is really catchy. Plus it doubles as an awesome drinking song.

A friend got me to listen to Opeth, never really listened before. Took a listen to this and loved their vocals.

Protip. Anything before Heritage sucks. At the rate Opeth is going, they'll start to get more boring and boring each time. Stick with Blackwater Park and Ghost Reveries, call it a day and go listen to another band.
