Hey guys, guess what? @'s old forum name was. *giggles* PinkieHooves
(Strangely enough, my ears started ringing really badly when I typed that. I'm sorry if I upset you, Kvltmaster.)

Anyway, I actually PURCHASED (I mean, who does that anymore?) The Contortionist's newest album. I like it alot. It's heavier and darker than their debut, but manages to keep that signature sound that they have. The vocals are improved, and it can even get kind of psychedelic and jazzy, like on Parallel Trance.

*raises hand*

I do, I've always preferred having a hard copy of CDs

It's just such a nice feel to have a CD in my hand

Rather then some illegal download off of a site that could

Possibly ruin my computer

Oh dear god. I wonder what that son of a bitch wrote. Was it any good?

It was actually pretty good. It made his murdering seem more justified, at least.

Pig Destroyer

Napalm Death

Carcass

Bolt Thrower

Dismember

Decapitated

Morbid Angel

Death

Gorgoroth

Hey, y'all!

So I found these guys yesterday and they've made an instant appearance on my heavy work rotation.

I like the feel.  Decent amounts of melody and varied chug speed.  I'm happy with it.

NO WHY WOULD YOU GIVE HIM GORGOROTH

Also, grindcore isn't a good starting point. I'd recommend starting with heavier thrash, really.

In other news,

Technically screamo but they did a split with Pig Destroyer so it's ok.

He asked for stuff that would make his mom mad. Nothin' like a little trve kvlt black metal to scare your parents, ya know?

I'll take your suggestion, and recommend him some heavier thrash, however.

trve kvlt

That's where you went wrong, bud. A good starting point for kvlt music is stuff like Burzum or Emperor. Gorgoroth is like telling him to listen to Cradle of Filth. :P

>tfw me and theneedledrop rarely agree on metal releases

His score for "Vertikal" was a 5/10. Opinions are cool and all though, but this has happened waaay too often in the past. He gave the new BTBAM a 4/10 and "Book Burner" got a 6/10 (albums I would give a 10/10 and a 9/10 to, respectively).

(by the way if you don't know about The Needle Drop he reviews music (not just metal) and it's a good way to learn about new things)

Apart from "Vertikal," there hasn't been much in terms of metal releases. Mostly screamo and hardcore releases like the new Comadre album which I enjoyed a good deal.

I know that The Red Chord, Cynic, Nails (a grindcore band, not NIN), and Wintersun are all up to stuff. The thing is that I can't wait much longer and there's no way in hell I'm listening to "Dingir" to fill the void.

Anyway, what are all of you waiting on this year?

Just to name a few bands with albums due out this year I'm excited for.

There's quite a few.

  • Born of Osiris
  • Red Chord
  • Cynic
  • Wintersun
  • Metallica! (That was a joke)
  • Black Sabbath
  • Amon Amarth
  • Animals as Leaders
  • Behemoth, because apparently it's supposed to be alot like Demigod
  • Periphery's album which got fucked by their Dream Theater tour
  • I think Slayer has a new album coming
  • Devin Townsend (Is it Ziltoid 2 or Casualties of Cool? Still not sure.)

Planetary Duality > Akeldima > Autotheism when it come to The Faceless.

It would be great if Devin released Z2, Casualties of Cool, AND Ghost 2 in the same year, seeing how productive he's been lately. Casualties of Cool is more than likely the one that's gonna come out.

If you don't understand my Nails worship, then just put this in your ears. You'll get it.

He asked for stuff that would make his mom mad.

That's when you give him The Acacia Strain.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKqiwGY4w8c

"She asked me if I wanted to fuck, so I spit in her face.  Blatant disregard for the rules.  She asked me to marry her, so I slit her fucking throat.  I told you I wanted to be alone forever."

That should do the trick.

Or who can forget:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8s5XY3Li5EQ

"I want the world to have my rape baby so when it's born I can strangle it to death."

"This is domestic abuse like you've never seen, this is a Lifetime movie on a global scale.  Just tell them you fell down the stairs."

I wouldn't go quite as far as to compare Cradle of Filth to Gorgoroth in that regard, but I see where you're coming from.

Eh the classic stuff's not too bad to listen to sometimes

I still have my Reign In Blood CD hanging around

It's quite the good album and I don't regret buying it

DEPRESSIVE BLACK METAL BROS FOR LIFE

I've listened to Towars the Depths too. I liked the style on Torn Beyond Reason more, but it was still good.

I also prefer Torn Beyond Reason, actually.

And whilst we're here, I'm gonna post some Blackgaze/Black Metal Shoegaze/Post-Black Metal/whateverthefuckidon'tknowbutitsoundsawesome, because it's along the same lines... well, not really, but everyone lumps it together for some reason.

Maybe even Five Finger Death Punch lyrics. Really overly tough guy stuff. Whatever, I think it was TAS that had a really funny shirt, and I can't remember what it said (it was on Tumblr, I believe).

Still waiting for new releases... but I found another atmospheric sludge record here: Consciousness Removal Project's "Tacit." Gonna give this a digital spin later. It's free on Bandcamp, so you all should do the same.

I think it would be cool if we all listened to one particular album and gave our own individual thoughts and scores on it. Like if we all listened to Colors or something, even if you've already heard it, and give your thoughts. Just an idea to get conversation going.

As in a stream of one album for a listenalong, or just like... homework? Either one would be interesting.

I actually just recently got that album and I've been listening to it pretty often lately. It's not the kind of thing I normally listen to, but I like it quite a bit, it's pretty interesting.

For me it goes Atmo = gaze > folk > blackened > 1st wave. Fuck all y'all purists, ain't no one taking my Deafheaven, and Alcest from me.
