Listening to this now, two tracks in and it is awesome:

I remember having very vivid ideas years ago about how the light that man wanted to shine across the universe has all but burned out. But truthfully, I suspect it's always been like this. Man just doesn't, and never will, have much light to shine to begin with. Yet still he builds his cities and empires, and ceaselessly seeks to gather more knowledge, perhaps in the delusion that he can make man's light burn a little brighter, desperate to find something of permanence, or perhaps something which might prove to him that mankind is a benefit to the Universe and to himself and that it is worth existing. But he will not.

I decided to give Koloss a good listen through. Haven't really been listening to new stuff that much.

Koloss is pretty good. Chaosphere is still my favorite.

(edited)

Fiction is an absolutely perfect album. There are no weak points on the entire album. This is a live performance of one of the tracks from it, and is one of the greatest performances I've ever seen.

Seems like no one has mentioned Queensryche, Operation Mindcrime is one of my favourite metal albums of all time. It's a shame they really haven't made a good album for 18 years.

I interrupt your regularly scheduled Metal Thread for some musical discussion.

Listen to the lyrics. Do you think he's accurately describing the current generation?

We now return to your regularly scheduled heavy.

Accurate. Very very accurate. Personally, I have a theory as to why a lot of the people who follow rap and want to become a "nigga", but it'll only apply to a few cases, and maybe almost half but not the majority of the community.

The part about being a female getting her heart broken I don't know about happenin' to any of my lady friends, but I understand what the dude is getting at.

And the part about Hiphop getting overcrowded is a very good argument, but it can be applied to other genre's of music too - most notably metal. The reasonings are different, but ultimately relate to the big picture, overpopulation.

Regardless, it does some up a good chunk of the society we live in today.

Christian Black metal... that sounds like it should be a contradiction.

Perhaps it should be. But as it turns out, there are plenty of excellent black metal bands with christian lyrics. Antestor, Horde, Crimson Moonlight, and Extol sometimes, to name a few. And yeah, I don't really understand christian lyrics in metal that well, it sort of goes against the aesthetics of the music in my opinion, but some bands can actually pretty awesome lyrics.

Christian black can be pretty cool but the term "unblack metal" is stupid.

If not for Matt Heafy, I don't think I would like Trivium half as much as a I do. He's been in a black metal band and a technical death metal band, so he's clearly a capable metal vocalist. As for Trivum, they sound like Metallica Jr. on two albums, and pretty good metalcore on their others. Good thrash/metalcore mix.

Did I already post this? It's been a while... I really like my spanish metal. Mago is my favorite by far.

I'm pretty cool. I think.

Also, new OC (it has a cutie mark this time!).

I wasn't a huge fan of Ghost Reveries, but Ghost Of Perdition is amazing. One of the greatest album openers I've ever heard. Opeth is an all around incredible band, they don't have one bad album. Even their newest album, Heritage, is amazing, and it's void of any extreme metal elements.

Eh... not a bad cover, but I haven't heard much Whitechapel.

Only Whitechapel worth listening to is their last 2 albums, A New Era of Corruption and their new self-titled one. I would say those are good enough (though not great) to go on my "Deathcore Done Right" list. Speaking of which...

I will learn you, Djenty. This is the band that basically invented black metal. Have fun with that.

http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=85ielup_aPQ

I saw them on that Metal Documentary. The singer like, killed himself with a shotgun and the band made necklaces out of his skull.

That's brutal.

That's not the same guy who killed himself though (his stage name was Dead). That vocalist is Attila Csihar, who also does vocals on some Sunn O)) albums, like this one. BE WARNED: most Sunn O))) songs are extremely long.

Speaking of Emporer, you might like the lead singer Ihsahn's new album, Erimita. There's a guest vocalist I know you will enjoy on two of the tracks.
