Diamond Tiara: a conversation on redemption

What is a way in which you think Diamond Tiara could be redeemed without turning her into a pity case ala Babs Seed? How would that take place in the show? Do you think Hasbro is going to attempt to redeem DT? For that matter, would you want to see her redeemed? What would it do to her/Silver Spoon/CMC's character? This is a place to discuss Diamond Tiara, keeping in mind that I do not condone DT's actions, nor am I defending her. As it is, DT is an unrepentant asshole; Hasbro hasn't really put much effort into explaining it. The point of this conversation is to talk about the future.

More so in a metaphorical sense,however im sure both would do her well.

I think the best way to change her would be if her penchant for attention-horsing got her into a serious situation that would force her to reconsider her motivations afterwards. What kind of situation, I don't know, as most of the ideas I have are probably too heavy for this show.

 I have to agree on that. Put her in a situation where she realizes the way she has been acting is immature and make her feel remorse for her actions.

Have her try running the family business. While we don't know much about DT's father Filthy Rich, his interaction with Granny Smith and the way he didn't mind her silliness makes me think that he is a more kind pony than his daughter. You have to be nice to people and personable if you want to stay in business in a small town, even if you are just faking it (not that I believe he is faking it. He seems nice).

 

I can see Filthy explaining professional courtesy and the importance of building good relationships to DT, but she would take it to mean you just have to sweet talk and manipulate everyone to get what you want. So while trying to run the business, DT would become a butt-kissing phoney. It would work at first, but because she's better at being mean than she is at sweet talking I think her customers would see through it and realize how she was trying to take advantage of them. Soon everyone in town would hate her. She would be confused, wondering where she went wrong, then she would see one of the ponies who just reamed her out for ruining them crying in a corner or something and she would realize that when you hurt others, you are hurting yourself too. That would start her on the path to change. She would start genuinely thinking about other ponies' feelings and for the first time in her life feel pretty terrible about what she's done. It might take a bit longer for her to figure out how to interact positively with others.

They could redeem her by simply making her sympathetic in the eyes of the audience. Simply show that she was a bully due to emotional distress and issues caused elsewhere, and have the CMC help her overcome said issues, and thanks to them helping her with an issue she previously thought they could not have her become nicer towards them. Not best friends forever, but atleast no more blank flank/cripple jokes.

This. Diamond Tiara's main defining characteristic is that she's a spoiled brat. Have something happen that forces her to stop being a spoiled child and reconsider how she's been up to this point and why, possibly even something that induces an "Oh God, What Have I done?" moment. Though it can't be an almost instant "I was bad, now I'm good", but a more gradual process considering everything she's done up to this point.

Best way to redeem her if her parents went bankrupt and she had to realize she's not always going to get what she wants. So she realizes she's been a horrible pony so she apologizes to the cmc and they become best freinds. The end.
