First Shading Attempt

If you really want to improve your ability to shade work with basic shapes. Understanding how light plays on the curvatures of objects at different angles and intensities will better enable you to read how shadows would fall on the contours of a ponies form and face.

i learned how to shade by using real life items and a flashlight as a reference :P i somehow can apply that to the ponies i draw...strange but true, but its actually really good shading

"What are you trying to accomplish, putting yourselves in danger like that? Trying to see "justice" done? Is that really justice, though? Aren't you just doing this because you want a little spice in your boring lives? What's the difference between that and a criminal who gets his kicks by murdering people? You see what I'm getting at? There's still a lot of time left. Give it some thought."

If you can read this and have a problem with me...take it up with my lawyer

Oh it is good of course but you can get more dynamic effects through practice with simple shapes ( or objects like your nifty flashlight thing)

What the more competent people above me said.

Three dimensional ponies (Gary's Models, blindbag figures) can be a great help with figuring out how light behaves on ponies.

You also might want to think about highlights for the mane and/or adding some more shades to the eyes.

Drawing+The+Head+And+figure+by+Jack+Hammhamm4.jpg

i have this book on my shelf and even though the fashions are dated in it, the techniques are timeless.  its "drawing the head and figure" by jack hamm. its brown with a yellow tinted lady figure on the front.

even still i suck at realistic hair :/
