Effects of magical artifacts on non-unicorns

We've seen the Alicorn Amulet in action. But could it work on other races as well? 

 

We do know that all ponies posses some kind of magic, type of which is dependent on race. So what if a pegasus wore that amulet? Would he be able to cast magic, or at least fly incredibly fast?

I believe it would increase their magical potential but without a way to harness it it will be useless on non-unicorns like a charger without a phone.

It would probably enhance the power of its flight, it has untold powers though, so there is no definitive answer. It most likely is like a steroid necklace, because like steroids, the Alicorn Amulet corrupts the user.

We do know that ponies have abilities dependent on magic, regardless of race. In this case, the pony is a phone, but non-unicorn one just lacks certain functions, like making photos, or in this case, ability to cast spells.

But if you think of non-unicorn magic as more passive like say, a geometric shape, you can make a square as large as you want but it doesn't change how much of a square it is.

The AA would presumably let a lone Pegasus do what all those others did in Hurricane Fluttershy and/or turn an Earth Pony into The Hulk / Bane.

I'm just wondering: maybe the amulet is called Alicorn amulet because it only affects unicorns/alicorns' magic, or because it's supposed to improve unicorns' magic to the alicorn level.

It could also mean that it affects a pegasus, because the Alicorn also has the power of the pegasus

Interesting question, I'm surprised that no one thought about it sooner. Sadly I have no idea how it would affect non-unicorn ponies but I'm curious what others think about it.

I guess you're right.

I was thinking that because Twilight mentioned the "alicorn magic" (in Twilight's Kingdom), which implied that unicorn magic is different from alicorn magic. However, alicorn wings don't seem to be different from pegasus wings.

I think the only difference between the two is one is just of a higher caliber and power, giving it a wider spell range.

That is a really good question. In the case of the Alicorn Amulet, it likely does enhance or focus their natural magic, perhaps even specifically their talent similar to the potion in Double Rainboom.

Double Rainboom is not a canon episode. It's a fan creation. Tirek did show however, that ponies cutie marks are a form of magic as well, so making special talents stronger would be likely.

Yet it's still magic. With no horn. All races use different kinds of magic, but it's still magic. Magic, despite of it's source: be it love or alicorns or evil artifacts, is used the same. Sure, so far we haven't seen an effect of magic on non-horned race in canon, but that doesn't mean there isn't any.

 

Actually, every single magic user has some kind of horn. Even Discord and Tirek, though they have two horns.

Well, I would think it would somehow affect their natural magic. I mean, pegasai magic is centered on flight while earth pony magic is grounded in strength(?).

 

Give a pegasus the amulet, then their speed likely increases as well as their agility. A side effect could be hurricane winds that could decimate towns & cities.

 

For an earth pony...well, I would imagine Fluttershy in Power Ponies...only more angry.
