Jack the Ripper Possibly Identified

Notorious serial killer Jack the Ripper may have been identified, according to this news article.

 

I won't put a raincoat on the goat here and say that I feel like writing a super long OP, espicially since you can just check out the story itself and get everything you need

So, what do you think? Do you believe it? Do you think it's incorrect? Why or why not?

Man, I was sad when we actually discovered who Deep Throat was. I really would rather not know the identity of Jack the Ripper. I have my doubts on this discovery for three reasons. One, there is no peer reviewed forensic article that is mentioned in the article. Two, the shawl was handed down and touched by so many people it becomes circumstantial at best. Three ... and most importantly ...

 

 

The claim is made in a new book, "Naming Jack the Ripper," by author Russell Edwards.

It's an age old mystery, so it's something that drives the imaginations of many. It's not something that interests me personally, but considering my interest in history & archeology, I can certainly understand their enthusiasm.

To be honest, it would be better if we never found out who Jack the Ripper really was. The reason he's so infamous even to this day is that his identity was never discovered. If we ever got a definite face to put to the name, he'd stop being so mysterious and terrifying.

Honestly, I won't agree or disagree with this.

 

My question though why should he remain 'mysterious & terrifying.' Wouldn't it be better to know the face of someone who ended the lives of people prematurely? I mean, we put so much effort into identifying mummies and remains of long dead rulers & nobles; why should this murderer be different? Why should he be glorified as such by remaining 'mysterious & terrifying?'

 

Now please, don't take that as a direct criticism at you or your beliefs. It's just a 'devils advocate' question; for the most part.

Ask anyone to name a serial killer and a good majority will likely respond with Jack the Ripper. If his identity was truly discovered, especially in this case when the supposed individual simply ended up locked up in an asylum where he died, then it would inevitably fall very short of the mental picture that's been build up about him over the decades and he would ultimately lose a chunk of his mysticism and his "legend" for lack of a better term would stop being so famous.

I guess I thinking of the perspective of that considering the ancient pharaohs or other Egyptians haven't lost their mysticism when they're identified (for the most part, anyway), I guess I have a hard time believing that Jack's allure would diminish if his identity if uncovered.

There will always be some theory as to who Jack The Ripper really was and speculation on why he did it. I don't want to get too detailed here for NSFW reasons but the way he dissected his victims was that of a doctor. He knew the anatomy of the human body pretty well based on my research I've done before on him. It's truly difficult to tell who he was because that was before the 20th century, back when technology was limited. Now if he had done it today, we might have more insight, but he didn't!
