why do people buy plushies?

The 4DE ones look great, at least in my opinion. I would want to get them.. If I had any damn money.  >_>

But, the reason why I would get one is because there's been bad stuff going on in my life, so what would be better than to have (at least a representation of) your favorite pony at your side?

I buy plushies since not only they're cute and soft, but I also buy them for my collections. My collections are pretty much the decor of my room, so that's why.

I also actually like merchandise. What's so bad about merchandise, anyway? xP

Plushies don't need to be very life-like to be good. They're there to be hugged and cuddled, simple as that. Some people feel comfort out of hugging or perhaps petting something, and plushies of an adorable cartoon character are the perfect thing for that.

i just think theyre cute, but im funny about stitching and painting--if theyre wonky looking i wont buy em, and wouldnt play with them as a kid :/ i grew up with two younger brothers, and they wouldnt play barbies with me, so we got beanie babies xD my grandmother would help me sew outfits for them, and my brothers were ok playing as a dog on a pirate ship saving princess kitty xD  i have toys and knick-knacks sitting around everywhere--window sills, book shelves, sitting feys on the edge of my sink and bathtub xD i used to keep a few on a spare blanket folded at the edge of my bed, but Beau doesnt make the bed and they get flung in the floor anyways :( it makes me feels bad, so they stay on the dresser now xD

summary: cuteness, sentimental, and deco'r

I-It's totally not because I wish to be able to cuddle a real life pony or anything, I-I mean who in their right mind wants THAT? C-Cuddling a soft, warm pony, f-feeling its wings wrap around you as it nuzzles up to you cutely & wraps you in its fuzzy hooves in a hug... OK SO I WANT TO CUDDLE A PEGASUS, SUE ME! Have you seen their wings!? They look so fluffy & cute, argh I just wanna cuddle one like mad! But since I can't have that (though I do want a lovebird one day... I mean the actual bird by the way, JonTron style) plushies sort of... Fill the hole, you know? Nothing can really replace a human, but plushies help when you can't just call up the snuggle hotline & get someone to cuddle up to you in a heartbeat. In fact if I have a girlfriend or close female friend even who likes cuddling my plushies tend to become more decoration, but for the time being I am more than content to give Flutters & Luna a snuggle ^^

its not like i dont want a hug from a pegasus. But i know its never gonna happen. If pegasi were real, human hugs would look seriously dull in comparison. So, am i to take it that you do it symbolically? As in, you dont see them as real right? Just a cushion shaped as a pony to make it look more colorful. Is that it?

I do it more because it is fun to have something to hold instead of being alone, really. It is nice to have the idea of a pegasi to cuddle, since I can't really have it (yet... whoever is big into virtual reality, start working on that shit!) the plushie becomes a good scapegoat for that desire to want to have pegasi hugs

Well yeah, they're adorable :). Plush they're handy if you have to hug something (unless it's too small) when nobody is around. They're even better when they're from someone you're really friendly with ;).

You seem to have a version of the fear: Pediophobia, or the fear of dolls.

a mild case atleast...

i myself find comfort in talking to inanimate things, but its always easier to talk to something with a face, and one i recognize.... Even in my college dorm i keep a mini Vinyl Scratch figure in my dresser which i secretly talk to to help with my anxiety and minor depression issues. As to why i buy plushies...... honestly before i moved to these dorms i would watch movies with them, or put them throughout the house to keep myself from getting lonely when my family would be gone for longer than a couple days, I dont find them creepy in the least:)

Well what would you rather them do. Buy a real pony and dye its fur? :P

lol haha.that would give a pony from the previous generations of mlp.

The way I see it, the reason I buy plushies is because of room decor and it's always a nice thing to express who your favorite characters are. So, there's that too, if I have the money and it's less than 100 bucks and I like the character I'm buying the plushie just because its what I like to have.

not arguing. I just want to ask... for room decor, wouldnt it be better to hang awesome pictures of them on the walls? And play mlp music on a surround sound system? That would make the atmosphere quite nice.

Because I love Twilight Sparkle and Applejack too much to not want want to try and emulate them accompanying me.  :proud:

That and, I've had soft toys ever since I was a kid. I should also mention that, at least MLP wise, my pony soft toys are a great reminder of the characters that I love so much!  :please: Turns eyes towards Twilight Sparkle soft toy

MLP inspired me to make my own plushies. When I started making them, the 4DE ones didn't exist, and even now that they do I think they're too small for my tastes. There's just no good way to get several large, high quality plushies without breaking the bank except to make them.

As for why I want them, my reasons aren't unique. I like having facsimiles of them around for comfort and as a tribute to a great thing in my life.

I want to buy pony plushies , but my room have no space to keep them form dust. (definitely not pony plushies that made by Habro)

For me, the main reason to buy them is for keeping as  a collection like plushies of  other anime or cartoon show, and to show once I have watched. Other one, I use plushies for drawing ponies in 3D  ( hard to picture 3D ponies from 2D ones in my mind :(  )

I hope I will have a room for them.

I guess I never really thought about that. But, even though I buy plushies, I was still rather shocked, that people could buy 3-4 foot plushies, for like 700 dollars at Bronycon. I don't think I have ever paid 700 dollars for one thing, if you don't count Airplane travel and Hotels. Most of the plushies I buy are , are those cheap ones that aren't even 100 bucks on Ebay. All though the 160 dollar plush of Button Mash on Etsy did look very tempting. That's gonna need to be put on hold for a little while.

Textile crafting is an art form in and of itself. To me there is little difference between plushies, sketches, paintings, sculptures, and music other than medium and mode of expression.

Why do people collect them or want to own them?

All of the reasons.
