EmilyLeah94 10 September 13, 2014 Share September 13, 2014 (edited) Please note, I am not suggesting Twilight Sparkle is a Mary Sue and this is not my opinion about her or an anti-Twilight Sparkle post. However, since she has turned into an alicorn, I've heard a few say that they think since this transformation, she's become a Mary Sue. I wouldn't say she is personally, but others are saying her transformation has only made a negative impact to her character, and making her look like the center of attention for everything. What does everypony think? Edited September 13, 2014 by EmilyLeah94
Darker 1,351 September 13, 2014 Share September 13, 2014 Unlike most Mary Sues, Twilight is not invincible and can be defeated either physically or mentally by weaker or stronger foes. She's not perfect, and she became an alicorn mostly because she IS the main character of the show. So, yeah, maybe she became an unnecessary powerful character without reason, but she is not a Mary Sue...yet. 3 Overlord of Darkness Signature made by: Astral Blitzen http://mlpforums.com/user/24786-astral-blitzen/
Ragland Tiger 3,420 September 13, 2014 Share September 13, 2014 (edited) I think that her character has been "watered down" since season three. I'm not sure why that's the case. Edited September 13, 2014 by Ragland Tiger
Pinkamena-Pills 6,839 September 13, 2014 Share September 13, 2014 She's not a Mary Sue,however, she is the main character of the show and that comes with its perks. Tho i must admit, imo her special talent being magic is quite privileged -- tho not Mary Sue as she still has to hone her magical abilities and shes not all powerful. 4 Oatmeal, are you crazy?! Conred 274 September 13, 2014 Share September 13, 2014 She not a Mary Sue by definiton BUT i can understand why poeple think she is one and others don't. She is a main character, its understandable why she is focused nad she get more development than others. However she never use strategy with her oponents. Her using mgaic as the deus ex machina whenever she feel to use making her abilities pretty much limitless like with Discord seem to make over powered. Also she is often the one to lecture others about the messages in the show or being the one who is right. Her ascending to alicornhood and gaining a kingdom within 2 seasons made her also very unequal to the other characters

Silver Letter 1,832 September 13, 2014 Share September 13, 2014 This sky is falling nonsense grates on my nerves. It's like they don't even watch the show. Twilight's core personality has only be enhanced, not reduced by the royal ascension. Her status has also barely had an effect on the show to the point where thinking that Twilight has become a Mary Sue is absurd. I hope now that season 5 is coming that something will actually come out of "Magical Mystery Cure" because Twilight has been shown to barely fit the role of a princess at all which makes her seem like a failure, not a perfect character that faces no challenges. Does this look like a Mary Sue to you? Does that have anything to do with a Mary Sue? 1 Silver Letter!!! Frostgage 7,976 September 13, 2014 Share September 13, 2014 Does that have anything to do with a Mary Sue? Guess it depends on what your exact definition of a Mary Sue is. Untitled Goose Q 5,137 September 13, 2014 Share September 13, 2014 Given that nearly any character, especially mane characters, can be described as a Mary Sue, I find the term rather pointless. 1 On 4/22/2016 at 6:16 PM, The Nightly Spectre said: One does not ask why The Questioner is awesome. Silver Letter 1,832 September 13, 2014 Share September 13, 2014 Guess it depends on what your exact definition of a Mary Sue is. It's a character (and not one of the main characters by definition) which is both perfect and never succumbs to challenge of any kind. Always has the right solution and is emotionally perfect at all times. Silver Letter!!! Nature's Spell 526 September 14, 2014 Share September 14, 2014 Nope. If anything the writers were too conservative with her new role. I'm hopping season 5 will improve on that record. Always has the right solution and is emotionally perfect at all times. Based on this definition, she is anything but a Mary Sue. So many challenges are met with intense panic. Just last night I got to the crystal empire episodes, again, and she kept freaking out about failing, because she needed to hand over the crystal herself, but if she took the time to escape, it would be 'game over'. 1 || Ponysona || Ask Me Anything || Johari Window || Twitch || Gamer Stuff ||

Petal Dancer 55 September 23, 2014 Share September 23, 2014 (edited) No, because she does have weaknesses and struggles. She has to work for what she gets. However, I do wish they'd give the rest of the Mane 6 some of the glory that she has, such has having major arcs dedicated to them. Twilight always has the largest role in stopping each season's main villain and I wish that the other five could be the ones to be the main hero now and then. Singe 2,111 September 23, 2014 Share September 23, 2014 I feel Twilight on the friendship aspect with the Mane 5 has gone too fast in my opinion. She should have dealt with rougher edges with her friendship over a slower pace than speed this quickly to where every fault of a pony like Rainbow Dash is looked down upon. Twilight Sparkle so far seems to demand change rather than accept/compromise for those faults.

Visual Spectrum 1,932 September 23, 2014 Share September 23, 2014 I don't think she's Mary Sue by definition, but she seems to be so perfect that she bores me. That is why I hate Twilicorn. Twilicorn has less flaws. I like Twilight when she's at her worst. (Lesson Zero.) One thing I hate about her is that she's the only character written with instincts. When Zecora first appeared, Twilight said she wasn't bad, and she was right. When Chrysalis appeared, she was the only one who knew that something was up, and she was right. In ALL of Equestria, Twilight is the only pony who has instincts. That bothers me. After she became an alicorn, a lot of her flaws faded away. I don't mind her being an alicorn, but the way she became an alicorn bothers me (that's off topic, though.), and her quirks aren't as common. The Twilight I loved, the one I could relate to, the one who seemed to speak to me, died. Twilight has doubts, and she still relies on books too much, but she does seem more perfect. 1 Applejack Fan Club
Countess Noodle 607 September 23, 2014 Share September 23, 2014 While I dont like that Twilight was turned into an alicorn its mainly because of my OCD. It was perfect the way it was. 2 unicorns, 2 pegasi, and 2 earth ponies. Now its uneven and I hate it.....Ya none of this has to do with her being a Mary sue which I don't think she is, but a lot less people would be questioning her sue-ness is she hadn't become an alicorn. 1 Made by MiniKirby123

Manman20x6 359 September 23, 2014 Share September 23, 2014 Although it's true that Twilight is insanely powerful, she gradually earned her power over the course of the show. At first, she was as powerful as any other pony, and through countless struggles, she became stronger and stronger until she was finally deserving of the title of Alicorn. If she was already an alicorn right from season 1, she would definitely be a Mary Sue. But she had to work to become one, and we got to see her grow into what she is today, which means that she doesn't qualify. And even post-ascension, she still has flaws and problems, so she definitely isn't a Mary Sue. 2 I SHIP FLUTTERSHY X BULK BICEPS SO HARD Also, I really like Cloudchaser's mane!
