Discovery Taking Control over The Hub

Is MLP really gonna be on CN? I tried finding a source, but to no avail. If that's really the case, should we really be worried about it?

It was just a comment about the possibility, but for now, Hasbro will remain with Discovery

If it was, I don't think we should be worried since if it did happen, Hasbro would still own the fanchise, so CN wouldn't do any meddling. Also, they got a new CEO after the last bad one.

I'm pretty sure MLP was one of the Hub's most successful shows. As such, I would think that Discovery would keep it around.

I love Ancient Aliens. Don't get me wrong, its full of shit, but I find it pretty entertaining anyway.

This. And then people who have more knowledge and do better research make videos to debunk them, so if you look, you find both silly fantasies, and awesome, well researched responses to those!

The original Wall Street Journal article stated that the Hub has started shopping their shows to other networks, including CN. It is likely that the Hasbro block will last on the Discovery Family network only until they have to renegotiate the contract.

All three kids' networks hold potential problems for MLP:

  • Nickelodeon is completely mismanaged. If MLP were to be aired on this network, we would have to worry about it being bounced all over the schedule and/or possibly being placed on the second-rate Nicktoons network, regarded as a dumping ground for failing shows.
  • Disney is not likely to pick it up as the Disney Channel does not air shows outside of the Disney brand, Disney XD is aimed only at boys, and the Hub shows would likely skew too old for the Disney Junior block/channel.
  • Cartoon Network's full slate likely means there will be little room on the lineup for a good timeslot. Additionally, regardless of who the new executives are who came in after the Young Justice incident, Cartoon Network has a history of demographic prejudices in their corporate culture leading to the negative treatment of girls' shows.

All of that makes the Internet a more and more enticing option. Hasbro would get the best results if they instead shopped the shows to Netflix or Amazon. They could also continue the Hub as an online-only channel like Kids' WB was after it was cancelled on-network. Although MLP has the advantage of a devoted fanbase from the cable show and makes it free from traditional television business models, moving it online could have adverse effects on the show's budget.

No! Say it's not so! I love the Hub too much to let it die!

So wait, confirm this for me: the hub's channel name is gone, but the MLP:FiM show should still play on the same channel number, right? Reruns and First-Runs, correct?

The HUB..has been snubbed.  :maud:

Goodbye HUB, i liked you more than the Disney Channel or those other less than enjoyable stations with 'kid shows' on them.  :maud:

"Who?"

-Disney Channel

Heh, I said before that Disney shines its best material in animated films and theme parks, Not overabundant live-action tween sitcoms on television. The animated shows could stand a better chance, however.

I'm not sure how to properly respond to that statement in the quote, though.

And just like Twilight's library that fell before it, we salute you the hub. For nearly 4+ years you brought to our TV's one of the few shows worth watching.

See you space cowboy.

I better see a pony version of this. It would be terrible to have the Hub leave without a farewell.

WAIT WHAT???

what..

-2 minutes of being dumbfounded later..-

So what exactly will happen to shows on there? I'm not just asking about MLP, but about other shows that aired on there as well.

Whether the HUB is dead or merely renamed is up for debate, but Discovery kids, IF I recall the name correctly, will still air many of the Hub shows.

It's just that Disney Channel, despite whatever anyone says about it, is too complacent to give a Donald Duck about what happens to the other channels because their ratings, like those of Nick and CN, are much higher than the Hub's.

That also could have gone for Disney XD as well.

It's just going back to what it was before the HUB....it's not that big of a deal....sadly though, no more logo jokes...and "secret but(t) fun"

 Pound Puppies ended last year...although we could make those memes last forever if we wanted to!

Only things I cared about on the Hub were MLP and the Aquabats Super Show. As long as those are fine, I don't really care.

I thought The Aquabats was cancelled after 2 seasons? People really started giving the Hub a hard time for that one.
