National Novel Writing Month 2014

Sounds like just the motivation I need to get my novel written. I started formulating this idea about a year ago, thinking about it every day, starting, stopping and scrapping etc.

Now I feel like I'm just about ready to tackle this, so I think I'll give it a try

How many of you will be participating in National Novel Writing Month this year? How many of you are going to try to write a novel - start to finish - during the month of November?

Have you participated in a NaNoWriMo in the past? Did you finish? Why or why not?

Is NaNoWriMo something that you have been thinking of doing for a while? What makes you want to try it? What fears do you have in participating? Are you going to have enough time to dedicated writing for at least an hour or two per day throughout the month?

I am planning to participate in National Novel Writing Month this year.  I have already participated in one local event.  I am intending to write the full 50,000 words within the month of November.

I have sort of participating in the past.  I have been to a few events.  In 2011, I created a novel on the NaNoWriMo website.  But I only wrote a description and an excerpt.  I never started writing the actual novel.  I don't really remember why I did not finish.  I am often discouraged and unsure what to do with my time.  I have a lot of ideas, but not much follow through most of the time.  Since I don't know what endeavors will pay off, I end up not doing anything.

I have thought about writing a novel each year, but so far I have never even started one.  Not for NaNoWriMo, anyway.  I did write a short murder mystery novel many years ago.  I can't remember if I ever tried submitting it for publishing anywhere.  I have written some other things - like a nonfiction book about "humor therapy," a parody of children's books about people's jobs, and a feature length screenplay about a demonic creature terrorizing a college campus.  I have never sold anything that I have written.

One reason I hesitate to write things is that I know that I will never want to go through the process of editing and rewriting.  Once I have written something once, I never want to work on the same project again.  My plan for the novel I want to write this year is to just do the rough draft and then find someone else to do the editing and rewriting.  I definitely have plenty of free time in which to write.  I just tend to lack the motivation.

This is my page on the NaNoWriMo website.

As it turns out, I'm going to be out of town (and away from writing implements) for the first week of the month, so I'm afraid I'm going to have to sit NaNoWriMo out.  Again.

As a fanfic writer who barely has the time to churn out 5k words a month, there's no way in heck I'm doing this.

If I didn't have anything to do and I could dedicate my life to writing, I could probably write about 3k words a day. That's about the amount I write on the days I dedicate to my fanfic work. 3k words * 30 days = 90k words in one month. So... it is possible, just difficult to manage.

I was thinking about participating but I recently learned that I don't know how to write fiction. I think I might have to learn how to write before I try to participate in something like this.

You don't need to be an expert to write for Nanowrimo. This is for the experience!

I am so excited to get cracking.

My plan is to just do the best that I can, and then get someone else to do an edit / rewrite afterwards.

Why not write when you can? :)

If you have a phone, you can always type away on your phone. I tend to write my best ideas on mine.

My best ideas come when I'm are not at the keyboard. So much agreement.

At midnight, I ended up being able to write 1700+ words before I completely knocked out. I wonder if when I reread it it'll still be good?

Don't read it until you are done.

I didn't feel motivated to write anything today.

Aw, that's alright! Don't stop just because you had a small bump in the road. Listen to music, read a book, or do something else to get you inspired. :)

Totally forgot it was national novel writing month! I missed it last year but the year before used it to finish a story I had been working on for a long time.

Are ya'll doing one single story or different writing pieces that add up to 50k words?
