Celestia should die.

I personally think that it's time for Celestia to pass away. I am not trying to troll or anything, I genuinely believe that if Celestia were to die, the show would become more interesting.

Twilight's character would be more developed as she has to learn how to deal with the loss. It would be educational in that it presents the truth about nothing being able to last forever. Her friendship can help her recover from her mourning, and be able to perform the duties she is now assigned.

I have nothing against Celestia. I just think that her importance would be greater accentuated if she left forever.

I agree.  Because Celestia is essentially a useless character, and it would also open up a lot of interesting opportunities for Luna.  She could finally get some development with the grieving, and of course she would take over as unofficial Queen and top dog.  The transition would be a really interesting series of episodes.

I don't think it will actually happen, though.  Sadly.

Would it not be better if she simply stepped down from her position as a ruler? I definitely don't want to see any long-running character pass away, especially if it's Celestia, best princess. There would still be more development opportunities for Celestia should the writers come up with some.

We also know how much the fandom is criticising Celestia for lack of development, even though I strongly disagree.

I think DYING is a bit too harsh for the show. I think for an event like this, it would be appropriate if she mysteriously disappeared, with no return. Or something like that. Not die, for we have yet to have a character die in My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic.

Well, I thought about this too, and, in my opinion, it IS a good idea to "erase" Celestia off the show. Like Phosphorus said, that would help in the story development. The only problem is to find who is able to rise a sun, and I think no one else can do it frequently. Even Luna would be overloaded.

I like how straight forward the title is. :P

Maybe perhaps Celestia could become a tyrant for some reason, becoming Daymare Sun, and she gets banished to the Sun by her greatest pupil...Princess Twilight Sparkle (My favorite princess).

I did not think so when I started typing that but when I read it again, it actually sounds kinda cool. :o

Granted, that nor the death of a Celestia would never happen. It may happen in a different way though, who knows.

Oh yeah, killing off one of the characters that kids used to know and love for years, just because some people think that Celestia has no purpose in the cartoon is definitely a good idea. Especially considering that if we really must enter the subject of death we have much better ways to do it - like bringing up why Applejack, Apple Bloom and Big Mac have no parents. Kids know Celestia. Kids like Celestia. And her purpose in cartoon is pretty obvious and justified - to show Twilight who she is and help her to fulfill her destiny. I really think that if the writers ever decide to bring up death in  Equestria, then it would be better if they used the characters that we don't know well. It'd be much safer way to do so and we can't just ignore the fact that we, adults or teenagers, aren't the target audience of this show.

A legitimately good plot line for a few shows. I would like to see this, but the odds that this will happen is slim at best. ( the whole dying thing just doesn't fit the Hasbro name very much

The issue of who will raise the sun can be in another episode.

Yes, I guess. But, I've just thinking here while reading answers about this topic and they convinced me that the fact "die" cannot be applied in this cartoon. You know, this is a TV show for younger people. But thanks for the answer, I didn't know how fast people here answer my questions.

Not to mention the last time Hasbro decided to kill off a Major Character (actually a slew of well known characters) mid-series it ended in a lot of tears and people were not very fond of the decision resulting in letters from many angry parents. It actually made Hasbro change their mind about killing off another major character in a big series and instead opted to put him in a coma.

Basically OP's asking for this:

Maybe just have her retire instead. :maud:

She can go live on some secluded island, worry free, because just as she planned: Twilight & friends are doing all the work.  :maud:

Maybe she would show up as backup if anything became too serious in Equestria.  :maud:

I see no reason to throw caution to the wind when comes to death. It's a very serious matter that should not be taken lightly. Furthermore, there needs to be at least a degree of subtle foreshadowing. Killing off a character that has been around for awhile all of a sudden is just putrid writing.

Honestly, this is coming across as another "Down with Celestia Princess Luna FTW!" thread. Personally, I dig Celestia more than Luna and I'd be a bit sad if she left the show - but it wouldn't be in a good way if she was killed off.

There must be an alternative to death. No need to kill her off. Death is pretty much NEVER the only option.

Firstly i do agree that Celestia dying would be interesting and add some development to the show, But as some people have already said dying is a huge matter and would be a bit much for a show mostly targeted towards children. Now there are multiple ways though that they could have Her "dissapear" and not be there for a while.

But saying all that I dont actually Want Celest to be off the show. :D
