Should I Draw Traditional Art Or Learn Digital Art?

I'm contemplating getting back to drawing for the first time in forever. The only art I've ever done is traditional. Should I work about perfecting that and shaking off the rust, or should I start trying to learn digital art? Do you need a solid foundation in traditional to work with digital or are the two styles very different?

I'd go traditional first. If you can do traditional art, the switch to digital should be trivial, however, if you become to reliant on the tools of digital art, it can be very hard to move to traditional.

It's more of what satisfies your interest. I thought I was going to be a digital artist and I ended up trying it for awhile, but it's different than that of traditional. Traditional is something you can physically touch and manipulate, digital can as well but it's something different I can't quite explain. One factor that made me not pursue digital art was that staring at the screen hurt my eyes, whereas traditional didn't of course.

You can always do both, sketch out something cool and fax it through a printer or take a picture of it to get the general idea of what you want. That's what I did until I found my calling for traditional art. :)

You should start with traditional art first so you can get back to the swing of things, then choose what you want. If you want clean results, go for digital art. If you want to stick with what you've learned, go for traditional art.

keep a balance and all!
