I personally am not up to speed on memorizing the concept of regional voice acting circles, I am generally only aware that most English-language television/series voice actors are usually Canadian or probably living in Canada/Vancouver LA/Burbank, with Tara Strong being a Canadian-American.

I have, however, given thought to what other VAs could have realistically been casted.

I think that we actually made off very well with the VAs we got. We could have ended up with a lot more clichéd voices for the Mane 6 and company, that would've sounded too familiar from cartoons from earlier in our/my childhood.

Carolyn Lawrence (Sandy Cheeks) as Applejack

Sure, these three ladies have a long and rather professional voice acting career, but hearing Rainbow with that "Bobby Hill" voice would be cringe-worthy. Ashleigh simply has a nuance to her voice that is superior for Dashie than the types of typecasting that Pam is continuing.

With characters like the little girl who takes Vinnie in Littlest Pet Shop, Ashleigh is starting to seriously overtake Pam Segall Adlon at her own voice schtick.

We made off really well.

I guess it sounds like I am dissing other VAs quite a bit. Some of them might be good friends with the FiM VAs
I guess I am.

We also made off well with which FiM VAs landed which roles. Kathleen Barr, Cathy Weseluck, Nicole Oliver, and Tabitha St. Germain are allthe "old ladies" of the cast who have such a diverse repretoire of hammy voices (as opposed to the "adorkable" or traditionally cute or spunky voices of most the other girls), that their goods could have been mixed up.

It is interesting how, as far as I know (and I have double-checked), that Tara just voices Twilie on MLP:FiM and not a single background/minor character, considering how prolific she is, pretty much ranking up there with Tabitha career-wise.

EDIT: several hours later, I realize that her name is Carolyn Lawrence and not Cindy. I thought it was a bit strange that she'd have the same first name as the Adventures of Jimmy Neutron character that is one of her most famous roles outside of Sandy from SpongeBob.

Sandy Cheeks' VA is named Carolyn Lawrence.

 

You forgot Toronto. That's where Tara Strong got her start way back in the day. For them I would mention Holly Gauthier-Frankel (Sagwa the Chinese Siamese Cat, Fern from Arthur), Melissa Altro (Pippi Longstocking, Muffy from Arthur), and Jodie Resther (Francine from Arthur).

Personally, I think the characters all have voices that suit them.  I see that if one of the actors had to be replaced, it would not be the end of the world.  Until that sad day comes, Don't Mess With Success!  If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
