Happy April Fool's Day!

I've finished restoring MLP Forums back to its pre-April 1st state. Over the past 30 hours or so, I staged a hostile robot takeover by Mailmare, our news bot, making it look as if Aperture Laboratories (from the Portal games) had taken the site over and kidnapped me for scientific testing. To heighten the chaos, I permabanned by own account and made a variety of changes to the site's look as time passed, all in the name of "science", in addition to removing the "Display name history" link from user profiles, to make it easier to impersonate another member just for today (and we had a number of people take advantage of this).

 

I hope you enjoyed the little spectacle that we put on for you. I want to give a special thanks to all the staff and members who played along for this one day in the year. And an extra-special thanks goes to Nico for whipping out a number of graphics for the Aperture Laboratories theme on such short notice. Jokuc, ProjectRKA, and Zoop get honourable mentions for suggesting several specific changes to me as well.

 

You guys make MLP Forums what it is, and although it might sound scandal-worthy to hear this coming from your admin, I enjoyed watching the chaos unfold and seeing people react to everything I did. Naturally, this resulted in a fair bit of spam as well, which we will clean up in the coming days, but I didn't see anything too nasty come out of our pranks.

 

Now... I heard on the grapevine that a few members had been taking screenshots and videos with the intention of documenting the Aperture Laboratories takeover. I look forward to seeing them!

Thanks feld0! You did a great job pulling al this off! I never would have expected such a spectacular april fools. also just bhow far you went to do it! The art, teh flipping. It must have been a lot of work! Encuraged me to try and convince my parents to let me donate in fact!

 

Do you plan on doing this again next year? I would be onboard for it. Of course you would likely have to come up with a new idea.

Well i wasnt expecting you to tell me right then and there! X) either way i had fun pretending to be zoop, figuring out jonke and zoops switch and finally playing along with you. It was pretty entertaining once i found out you were mailmare and made it so fun to devise strategies to make it more convincing mailmare was NOT feld0. It was a lot of fun. Cant wait until next year!

I personally loved it, especially being a fan of the Portal games... though I still haven't finished the second one >.>

 

Apart from the spinning avatars causing a bit of lag, I very much enjoyed the change. Couldn't help but change myself to a Weighted Companion Cube the second I saw the new layout Although being a cube is rather dull, I certainly got more hugs out of it than I do as Klopp

 

Also, I received the most Epic notification EVER by becoming the Weighted Companion Cube:

I use an older computer, so the site was pretty laggy for me. But it was a great idea! I forgot it was April 1st until I saw the site tilting. The spinning and flipping avatars were a nice touch.

When the status updates went upside down I became a little bit scared, lol. (In a good way)
