Galen Selanno 351 December 18, 2014 Share December 18, 2014 China is, unfortunately, still trying to follow Mao Zedong's principles. They are still trying to surpass us. China, as I think of it, is really just an overpopulated, polluted, fascist, Communist, industrial pseudo-powerhouse with no idea what to do. 2 MLP. Home sweet home. SparklingSwirls 21,601 December 18, 2014 Share December 18, 2014 (edited) My opinion on China is neutral. It's never been a place that I want to visit so I don't know very much about it, just that the cheap cost of labor means almost everything is made over there... and also that it's overpopulated. I don't really like the Chinese language; I mean all languages are pretty in their own way, but eh... sweetolebob18 728 December 18, 2014 Share December 18, 2014 Most Americans don't realize that there are 2 Chinas. Mainland China & Taiwan. Taiwan is a republic & a friend to the USA. Mainland China, is a People's Republic (NOT the same thing). It is the center of pirated movies & a lot of other stuff. Still, they've loaned us over a trillion dollars, so it would be hypocritical to bad mouth them or say they aren't our friend.
DubWolf 18,661 December 18, 2014 Share December 18, 2014 WEll, I like Chinese food , though it probably has a different taste over there. China seems like an interesting place to go to, like I'd go to Hong King, Shanghai, the Great Wall, erm... A friend mentioned "the forbidden city" (so Beijing). I almost studied abroad in Beijing in May until.... Reasons :comeatus:. Sig by Wolf, Handwriting by SparklingSwirls
ReverseFaller 2,484 December 18, 2014 Share December 18, 2014 (edited) China has never really interested me all that much before. Like all nations, there's both good and bad things about China. For example, while China has good food they've also had a nasty dictator in the last 100 years (Mao Zedong). China also appears to be overpopulated, and has an awful lot of pollution. On the up side, they also have a pretty cool looking written language. I wouldn't mind visiting China one day. I think seeing places like Hong Kong, and Taiwan could be pretty fun. Luna the Great of all the Russias 3,121 December 18, 2014 Share December 18, 2014 China is, unfortunately, still trying to follow Mao Zedong's principles. They are still trying to surpass us. China, as I think of it, is really just an overpopulated, polluted, fascist, Communist, industrial pseudo-powerhouse with no idea what to do. Follow Mao's principles in what way? From what I understand, they abandoned the ways Mao ran the country ever since Deng Xiaoping went into power, changing from socialism to capitalism. And the pollution in China is perhaps necessary if they want to develop their infrastructure. And I'm quite certain every country, with the possible exception of North Korea, are completely aware of the problems they have to face and have at least an idea as to how to approach them. China trying to surpass the US? If that's true then I think it's reasonable that that would be the grand objective of any potential superpower. 1 Pony Art Thread Brony since ~25 July of 2011. Lisa 5,553 December 18, 2014 Share December 18, 2014 The Chinese language is very complicated and interesting as it's the only commonly used logographic language at the moment. Dark Horse 12,971 December 18, 2014 Share December 18, 2014 Ehh.. I like Ancient China if that counts. It has quite a rich history and I love its architecture and mythological folklore. Dragon's were a big part of that too, and Dragon's rock! Of course the Great Wall is a benchmark of human engineering, and its something I have always wanted to visit in my life just to say i've been there. But yeah, I don't really care for modern china and it's politics. They do seem to have some sort of superiority complex going on over there, trying to beat western nations at everything. Too bad they can't seem to focus that energy on some of the severe societal problems they've got on their hands. I also think it's people are, in my opinion, far too numerous and widespread. 2 "Always watching - Always lurking." Signature by @Kyoshi

Mao Zedong and Kim Jong-il might somewhat have wanted to surpass America, but it hasn't been the same since their death. Now whoever in charge of China and North Korea know better, their dream is to hold the power permanently and benefit from corruption/dictatorship. "surpass America" has become an ideology just for brainwashing innocent people into being patriotic and preventing them from realizing the massive corruption over their land. Steel Accord 6,660 December 18, 2014 Share December 18, 2014 (edited) The people or the government? As far as I'm concerned, they are two different things. (Like most countries, but China particularly so.) The Chinese people? I've known precisely one person (my teacher) from Taiwan, where most of the Chinese culture went after Mao's take over. She was kind, intelligent, and more than willing to help. Their government? Hypocritical, tyrannical, totalitarian. And its victims are its own people most of all. Shanks 10,817 December 18, 2014 Share December 18, 2014 (edited) It is a country with a very fascinating history and is responsible for quite a few scientific and technological innovations which we take for granted. Chinese culture has taken a huge nosedive when the communists took over though and still hasn't fully recovered. It is true that China is technically adopting "capitalist" principles and I say that in quotes because it is actually corporatism/fascism but is still very much a communist country and still one of the countries which I thank God I don't live in. Yoshi89 5,294 April 24, 2020 Share April 24, 2020 (edited) China is a country rich in culture and heritage. The government, much like all other communist-controlled countries, is a human rights nightmare. If you live there, you can be erased from existence if you bring up Tienanmen Square or the Cultural Revolution.
