Ever lost a game save?

I just lost a Watch Dogs game save.. I recently downloaded it and played for 8 hours straight.. as I was enjoying it. I closed the game window after I finally got bored. I went back into the game to find out that the game didn't save. Not too happy about this.. probably gonna start a new game save tomorrow, or later. Has this ever happened to you? It's happened to me quite a bit. I don't care when I do anymore. I just look at the bright side.. at least I can play again and find new things I missed and know what's coming up.  :P

It's happened before, but I lost it to my sister; not a error within the game. I used to have a save file in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and I was at the Snowpeak Ruins temple, but my sister decided to make a new save file. Now, ordinarily; that would be fine, as there are three slots, but she decided to create her save over my save file, deleting all my progress.

It was tragic.

If you play games, it's going to happen to you a few times.

I've lost Pokémon files, and etc.

One that stung was the loss of my Sims 4 file. I was on the fifth generation, had a millionaire family (No cheats), everyone was on the top of their careers and had maxed out skills. Then there was a huge glitch and wiped out my save state. I had played for weeks on that file...

I lost my entire hard drive in my PS3 because it broke. :|

And technically I lost all my stuff from my old laptop because I've swapped over to a Mac.

Yes. One time, I didn't realize Steam will only keep the latest few game saves when you play the game on a different computer so I lost an entire character I played in Skyrim.

Oh, man! My sister use to do this all the time! Usually when I did something she didn't like. I had to start hiding all my game systems or put passwords on them.

Sims always seems to have problems with saving for me. I recently played Sims 3 Pets on the Xbox. Apparently Sims 3 on the Xbox has tons of game ruining bugs that I didn't notice until I was days into the game.. .-.

When I played through Final Fantasy 9 the first time I overwrote my file with my brother's. I was just about to fight the last boss.

This is why I no longer share systems with anyone. XD

I've lost many saves for one reason or another. Memory cards corrupting and needing to be reformatted to it's factory state before it can save anything again, data just deciding to corrupt for no reason at all, a game's save feature not being clear about when it's saving so you don't save and have to redo entire chunks of the game because they won't even give you a manual save option so you can make sure... :okiedokielokie:

I've lost quite a few save files due to formatting or changing computers, for not computer games I've been pretty lucky and have not lost a save file if I recall correctly.

Now I know this technically isn't a lost save file, but one time while playing my step-brother's copy of Final Fantasy 10; I didn't want to save on his memory card without his permission. So I played through the game for like 6 hours before he came home so I could ask. He said I could use his card but then I died literally like 5 steps away from a save point.

I was playing Last of Us on my PS3, then it decided to break. It was an original-gen PS3, so it was kinda long-overdue. Anyways, as I was playing Last of Us, I got up to the last 5 minutes of the game, then it froze. It wouldn't turn back on, regardless of what I tried. I had also finished almost every other game (28 I think) I own. I was 2 trophies of platinum in a lot of the too, Ah well, such is life.

I can't think what to put here, so have a swimsuit Spencer Sotello

Does my original PS3 croaking after seven years count? Given Djesus's comment, probably. Still, the most noteworthy example for me was in the 6th gen. My Tekken 5 save was corrupted, and rather than cry about it, I chose to take it like a man and get it all back the old fashioned way. I had everything unlocked, so I did it again, and I reached Tekken Lord status once again with the same character. For a more recent example, a glitch in the 3DS port of the GBC Shantae game caused me to lose my data, and that kind of blew. I eventually played through the game again, and thankfully didn't have the same problem. To be honest though, I'm fortunate in that I can't say I've had too much of a data loss problem in 22 years of gaming. I'm sure I've experienced it less than 1/1000 times overall.

I have lost game files many times in the past.

The worst that has ever happened to me was my old Nintendo 64 game "Perfect Dark". It was a long time ago, so the details are very fuzzy. What I do remember is that the game file became so corrupted, that the game itself could no longer create files after it deleted all of the ones that were already on it.

So the cartridge now lays somewhere in my house....Left to collect dust as I use another cartridge with the same game.

I remember when I use to skip school, I'd play loads of minecraft and watch the history channel, and one day there was a special about the wonders of the ancient world, so I thought I'd go ahead and make my own. It was ok, but then I wanted to add a city around it. I saved it often because back then I had a laptop that was no longer a laptop...

and by that I mean it was a husk on life support. The monitor of the laptop no longer worked, so I needed a separate monitor, the battery didn't charge so I had to keep it plugged in 24/7, it didn't have a working fan so I needed one blowing on it at all times or it would over heat, and I just hooked up separate keyboard and mouse because that would probably crap out soon too.

ANYWAYS due to danger of overheating and consistent blue screens I often saved, but for whatever reason, I do not know why, on one particular bluescreen it decided to purge that save file, and so a few day's work was obliterated.

And in case you're wondering, months later the laptop finally died, I don't know what the hell happened but one day I turn it on and there's just symbols all over the screen, it included some of these

I've lost a few Pokemon Blue saves to a faulty EEPROM, but none were that far in the game, so none of them stung that much. The one that hurt the worst was in Super Mario RPG. I was in the final dungeon, had pretty decent (but not the best) equipment, everyone was near the max level of 30, I beat the superboss, Culex, I was in the final dungeon after a 2-hour jaunt through Bowser's Keep 2.0 and I was ready for the game's finale. Next time I turned on my SNES, the save was gone. Turned out I overheated the SNES and the game. The SNES died in 2010, but the game still works. It's all wonky though. Like once I triggered an anti-piracy check when attempting Culex again. Just what, game.

Omg, Harvest Moon for the GameCube. My kid was growing up, my farm was thriving.

And I accidenly saved over it. It was horrible.

Harvest Moon! I use to play that game all the time! I'm gonna have to spend some time looking for that game.. that or purchase a new copy. I really want to play that now. Sorry about your save.. but thanks for the memories.
