Today begins a tale of pirates. Ponies who are willing to leave behind their previous lives to pursue a life of sea faring and plundering. For a pirate has a very simple goal, one that is perhaps not so different to that of an normal pony's. To become rich. To steal money, gold and riches. That is what it is to be a pirate.

@@@Illiad Easle@@Yoshi89,  @@clockwork24

Goldseek looked down on his new crew with distaste. It was hard to assemble a crew, and he was honestly quite disappointed in the results. Perhaps they would prove themselves better than they seemed, but at first glance, they didn't seem like the job would suit them. He had managed to memorise their names, though he wasn't sure how much good that would do. His First Mate, which he was most worried about, seeing as how close a First Mate would have to be, was Illiad Easle. The Gunner, who could very easily betray him, seemed at least to know what he was doing. His name was Clockwork, and he apparently knew his fair share about weaponry.  The Carpenter's name was Thrillseeker, who Goldseek hadn't a clue about his skill with repairs. He could only hope he knew how to use a hammer. And finally, was the chef, Nightlight Sparkle. Goldseek had at first mistook him for a mare, due to his femininity. He appeared to be somewhat high class, which would make the pirate life very difficult for him.

"Right then. I'll hope you all know how a ship works and where everything is, because I really don't want to have to explain it to you. Illiad, could I please speak with you privately in the cabin?"

Garnet found himself amid the members of a crowded wooden Galleon. He quickly analyzed his situation and wondered how he found himself in this situation. He looked back into his memory...

[begin Flashback. Monochrome]

Ah yes, several days back stood Garnet, in poverty, armed with only his knowledge of artistic crafts such as woodworking and repair, and begging down by the harbor.

"Sir, could you spare a few bits?" Garnet managed to spare the attention of a rather muscular Crystal Earth pony. Of all the details, what really shone out was his Ruby Red mane, and his big frame and Black-as-Obsidian coat made him stand out in any crowd.

"A few bits? With all that's going on around here, all you want is a few bits?"

"Just enough to pay for Basic Needs, sir. I'm a repairstallion who has lost his place in the world. I fear that not even Celestia's kindness can save me now."

The black pony spoke up. "I'm actually in need of a good repairstallion who can help me out on my journeys. Join with me, and you can have all the bits you've ever dreamed of!"

"Thank you, but I'm doing good here as it is."

"On the street, begging? Is that how you want to spend your last days? How about going out in a blaze of glory, while tears in the hull appear at every angle and we are about to be sank down to the bottom of the sea lest you're not there to patch up said tears in the hull!"

"Sir, with all due respect, WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!" Even in confused anger, Garnet still managed to keep his volume at a reasonable level.

"I'm talking about Piracy! Sail the seas with me and my crew, and together, we can become the richest ponies in all of Equestria!"

[End Flashback. Normal coloring]

And Garnet stood there on the deck of the Solar Queen, confused, claustrophobic, Seasick to his stomach, and not a single word uttered to him of the gold and bits he was promised back at the harbor...

A yellow unicorn eyed his drink as the captain of the Avarice walked out of the tavern. Downing it in one gulp, Clockwork pushed out the stool he was sitting on and stood. He pushed down on the weathered table, and kept rising, steam hissing and machine parts whirring, supporting his spine. On his two back legs, the unicorn made his way to the entrance of the establishment, giving a small nod towards Illiad Easel as he walked past.

The tan pegasus with the brown mane adjusted the strap to his tool belt as he reported for duty. This was exactly the kind of enjoyment he had been looking for, something his job at the amusement park couldn't provide. As the captain led Illiad into his private cabin, Thrillseeker took this opportunity to introduce himself to the other crew members. He turned towards Clockwork and Nightlight and extended his hoof.

"Pleasure to be here," he greeted them. "With my background in repairing roller coaster tracks, this seems like the life for me. How about you?"

I pause, taking a more thoughtful expression, "Well, I suppose that it is reasonable, I could kill you right now and take the ship right from the start, but I wont. Simply put, if I could be captain I would have set sail weeks ago." I float out a map of the local ocean and set it out on the table, "You see, I'm great at charting courses and mapping areas, but I can't run a ship nearly as well as you say you can." I turn to face Goldseek directly, "Simply put, I need you in charge if I'm going to get anything out of this, so you can be sure that I will do everything I can to keep you in command."

I turn to face the map, moving a miniature of the ship onto it's current location on the map, "So if you're satisfied, lets get to plotting."

"We should be able to board and take what we need. Then we sail all the way down to Neighpon, where I have some contacts who would gladly take our cargo off of our hands and provide us with some cash for it."

I look down at the map, placing a model cargo ship near Hoofington. I pull out my plotting compass, (themeasuring tool, not the directional) and chart the course. "Well, the interception should be plenty easy, given that the ship is coming right towards us, and only fifty miles out to the midpoint..." I move to plot the second leg, "It is quite a long journey to Neighpon however, easily 350 miles, and no good ports to stop at since we can't really visit Marelantis... Goldseek was very suddenly glad that he'd found Illiad as a first mate, which was very different from just a few minutes ago. In the past, his pirate escapades usually were without planning and often ended in casualties. Now, he was almost certain that he would succeed, or, at the very least, his men would live.

"But... on the bright side, it will only be an entire day's journey to Neighpon."

I turn back to face the map. "We are going to need to hit the ship hard and fast, if we miss, they will get away."

Nightlight shifted uneasily. It wouldn't make a good impression if he said he joined because he had nothing left to live for. He hadn't quite given up the hope of meeting Twilight one day, but he knew chances were really slim that he'd ever end up with her. He just watched the other ponies talk; it would be rude to interrupt. He also joined because pirates were amongst the most interesting characters in the plays he'd performed. That, and after catching word that there were pirates about to set sail, he couldn't just let them leave without an adept chef. His few friends back home told him his cooking was really good. Also, he might just make a few friends while on board. That would be nice, but for now Nightlight thought it best to distrust everypony... at least, as far as he could without getting into trouble.
