gaming Favorite "Bad" games

Eternal Night

Recommended Posts

I didn't see a thread about this when I was quickly glancing through the forum so i figured I would make a thread about this myself. I personally love playing bad games for the sake of a good laugh or two, and I was wondering if anyone else had a similar interest. Though I hope this thread doesn't turn into people hating on games that other people enjoy just to be rude.

My favorite bad games that I personally enjoy are:

The CDI Zelda games (mostly for the the poor cutscenes)

Night Trap

Lester the Unlikely (because it's like a gamble whether or not the character will kill itself)

What are some of yours?

Sonic 06, once I had something to distract me during the loading screens, was pretty much my favourite bad game back when I had it. Got a lot of fun trying to break the game (well, break it more, at least :P) and seeing the weird results that came from it- it's like a goldmine if you're into that sorta thing   Plus, the music was amazing IMO, which certainly helped me deal with the more annoying moments in the game :)

Sonic 06 and Shadow the Hedgehog are fun as hell but I can admit that they're pretty bad.

I forgot to add sonic 06 in my original post, I absolutely love that game. Literally the most broken mess i have ever played, but it's possibly more fun than anything i have ever played that's a triple A title.

My favorite bad games are Sonic 06... A little known "classic" for the PS2 called Neopet's the Darkest Faerie, Ride to Hell, and Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing.

Shadow is the best sonic game, fite me.

Nah m8. Sonic R is the best Sonic game.

My favourites are the Zelda CD-i trilogy, Sonic 2006 and Shadow the Hedgehog. Zelda CD-i has hilarious dialogue and uncanny character designs whereas Sonic 2006/Shadow the Hedgehog have tonnes of fun game-breaking glitches.

Off the top of my head:

1. Mucha Lucha Mascaritas of the Lost Code
2. Bleach: Soul Resurreccion
3. Sonic R
4. Shadow The Hedgehog
5. DragonBall Z Sagas

I honestly like any game as long as it's one I can beat.

I'm a huge fan of AVGN and James & Mike, so naturally this is a great thread for me.

It's so much fun to play bad games for laughs.  Ideally, in a perfect world, there would be no bad games or movies or anything, but that would be kind of boring.  It makes the world richer to have the bad ones to laugh at.

I love to play Addams Family and Robocop vs. the Terminator, both for SNES.  They're not broken or anything, but I don't consider them good games.  But for some reason, I just like to play them anyway.  I also definitely like playing Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde on NES, and that's definitely garbage.  But such hilarious garbage.  But the most fun I've ever had playing a bad game was Jurassic Park on Genesis.  That game is so friggin bad, and so hilarious.  I played it with my friends at one of their houses, and it was just one of those times where you end up laughing til you cry at something that shouldn't be so funny, but it is just because you're with your friends.  We took turns playing and basically doing hilarious commentary.  It really was just like the best of James and Mike Mondays.

Glad I'm not the only one who likes the accursed Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde ;) it's a surprisingly addictive game! Big rigs, definitely, nightmare on elm street (if anything because of the amazing soundtrack), I'm sure there's others...I'll post more if I remember them.

The nerd really got me into retro gaming when I was still in middle school, I owe him for my masochistic hobby of playing terrible old video games. My friends and I find more joy in having "bad game or movie night" then we do actually playing a good game at times. I do agree with you though that it wouldn't be nearly as fun without a few good friends making jokes at the games expense, I couldn't imagine subjecting myself to these games otherwise.

Also another game I forgot to add on my initial list Beetlejuice on the NES, I saw it briefly in the NES Accessories episode of AVGN and I was tempted to play it. By god it was utter crap, the game literally has no consistent rules, though the music was really catchy despite not fitting in the movie's darker themes.

Christmas Shopper Simulator.

Story:

You are some guy who runs around and keeps falling over.

Gameplay:

Bad Goat simulator knockoff style.

Developers:

GAME (UK Game shop, I often buy steam wallet cards there) and some Indie company.

How I found out about it:

The guy at the counter gave me it (on some DVD) as a "Christmas Present for being a Loyal Customer"

Video about it:

I don't get it...Seriously, why does everybody hate Sonic 06? It has a great storyline, a badass new character, new fun gameplay mechanics, And even HD graphics too...

The game was literally released unfinished and was full of bugs and glitches that made it borderline unplayable

I have a soft spot for the SNES version of the game Drakkhen; I even own the cartridge (which was dirt cheap).

Why is it a bad game?  Anything can just randomly kill any of your characters, seemingly regardless of level and HP.  Many times, I've had all but one member of my party instantly, inexplicably murdered by some weak ass enemy; requiring that I make the trek ALL the way to the nearest Anak shrine. xD  And if so much as a gaggle of rats (I like saying "gaggle," I don't care that it's inaccurate) confronts my one lucky survivor on the way to Mr. Reviver Dude, I will press L + R like a MADMAN to make them go away.  At night, the freaking STARS attack your party, and you've no chance to fight the night sky-birthed dragon serpent thingies unless members of your party have projectile weapons and / or magic.  At any time whatsoever, you may be stripped naked mid-battle.  This is because you CONSTANTLY get messages like: "Super awesome armor that was super pricy or was just picked up in a pain in the butt dungeon CAN NOT BE USED."  Okay.  But why??!?!?  "Because we said so; suck it up, gamer boi."

And a frickin' MOAT shark will frickin' eat your frickin' party.  If you don't stick one dude in the moat...  Have one dude waiting on the bridge...  And then run the bridge dude into the castle before your stupid moat Scout drowns. xD

Also, even the party member you're controlling will be possessed by the idiot AI the moment you stop guiding them.  I even feel like I'm fighting against the mind-controlling AI at times. xDD

But I love the stupid game anyway; I enjoy the hell out of finding the "secret" Inn where everyone's happy, lively music plays, and the Wandering Merchant is ALWAYS there (as opposed to lucking out and finding him on the road).  I enjoyed going into the first castle over and over and over before running to sell all the crap I could to the aforementioned merchant, and I relished defeating the same infinitely-spawning, rare ring-dropping spider in the first castle a billion times.  Also great way to grind for EXP, which only seemed to be awarded to whatever idiot got the last hit.  Meaning that may characters didn't level evenly. -_-

Love / hate.
