[Update: Nintendo has provided their own FAQ for the closure. Information will not be transferred to the new program. Your new Elite status gift will be available between April 1 and April 30, 2015.]

After more than six years, Club Nintendo is shutting down. Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America's Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing, states, “We thank all Club Nintendo members for their dedication to Nintendo games and their ongoing love for our systems and characters, We want to make this time of transition as easy as possible for our loyal Club Nintendo members, so we are going to add dozens of new rewards and downloadable games to help members clear out their Coin balances.”

Nintendo will add more physical rewards in February, and Flipnote Studio 3D will be free for all at that time until June 30. You will not be able to create a new account after March 31. At some point this year a new loyalty program will be announced.

This is a huge shame. We've all complained about some of the bad rewards and availability of some items, but I've personally been a member since the start, and have earned some really cool gear over the years. I hope the new program is announced soon.

Here's hoping that whatever this new program is can improve on Club Nintendo's shortcomings

It had short comings? I wasn't ever disappointed with what they offered.

Aww man, that sucks to hear. I've always wanted to join Club Nintendo, but I never got the chance. I am super happy to hear that Flipnote Studio 3D is finally coming, however.

Eh, that was just a way of me saying that I hope it can be better, though I thought CN was great :P

I enjoyed Club Nintendo throughout the years. Getting free stuff for buying Nintendo games is alright by me.

Hopefully the new program will be good, that and the new physical items that will be released in February are not disappointing.

That hurts, and I was just getting back to Nintendo, this would have been a good Club to see, I remember when Nintendo Power sold its last magazine, yet I hope what ever new thing Nintendo has in store, it would be good, but I hold not promises.

I know some people who I know who aren't too happy with this. I never really got around to making a Club Nintendo account because of laziness, and I feel like I really missed out now. :\ Shame it's shutting down after only six years.

(coming soon)

I did NOT see this coming...I had thoughts about joining at first so I could play Doc Louis's Punch Out on my Wii but I'd feel like sort of a hypocrite if I joined since I prefer Sony.

I was aware of that. And well technically the only reason why I prefer Sony is because Nintendo's games are way too hard for me. I do agree with you that they have the better game library as far as story and gameplay goes.

Yeah, found out a few days ago. It sucks. I remember buying Dr. Mario Online RX and Mario Party 2 on the Wii and 2 days ago buying Super Mario Land on 3DS, and on the same day I did the latter I found out what was going on.

Hopefully the new service will be nice though!

I'm not too upset that they're shutting down their old program - apparently it wasn't working out for them.  What I AM upset about is that they have NO plans to transfer purchase history from the old program to the new one.  Bought your Wii U, 3DS and games before the shutdown date?  Too bad, those registrations don't count for anything anymore.  Want to get the equivalent standing in the new system?  Buy more stuff.

I hope they change their minds about that, because if they don't, they'll have just stuck their middle finger out at their entire fanbase, and they will alienate a lot of their users.

I'm disappointed at this. :( Though at least I'll be able to get the Smash CD and Mewtwo DLC because of my account. :D
