Thrond 3,263 February 11, 2018 Share February 11, 2018 This is silly and isn't really flattering towards anyone - do these people really have so little self-control? - but I think the moral is great, and a lot of what's on offer here is just really funny. Pinkie and Twilight sleuthing with the bubble pipe is great, but the real star is Pinkie's wild accusations. She's just so creative, even though it's kinda rude to make things up on the fly like that. I've always found this one a little lightweight, and that mostly comes down to the immature character behaviour, but I've also always found it funny, and it's hardly incompetent like "Putting Your Hoof Down" or something. More about the journey than the destination, which the episode makes zero effort to hide. I think this one gets a bit of a bad rap. Meushell 52 June 29, 2018 Share June 29, 2018 Er, my headcanon is that this entire episode was Pinkie’s dream. That explains everything. Really, I know it’s supposed to be a fun episode, but the behavior of the eaters is just horrible. I feel bad for the Cakes. I did like... “Stop, thief! *Bang!* Are you alright, thief?”
bigbertha 414 July 23, 2018 Share July 23, 2018 This episode was decent. The biggest problem is all of Pinkie's stories about who could've eaten the cake are filler. That's the ENTIRE second act that could be removed with no change to the story. Along with that, the "mystery" was barely a mystery because Twilight hid all of the clues. That said, the second act was the best part of the episode despite being filler. And the rest of the episode was at least amusing. bigbertha 414 January 6, 2019 Share January 6, 2019 I like this one. The jokes are pretty good and there's more of that Twilight and Pinkie dynamic. Sure, the entire second act is filler, and there's no way for the audience to follow along with the clues since Twilight hides them all, but the episode doesn't focus on the mystery. It's about the jokes and fun. In that I think it succeeds. Except for the third act. All it is is saying who did it. Not bad, but boring. Overall, it's good, but nothing great. Lucky Bolt 35,063 September 6, 2019 Share September 6, 2019 I give a 10/10 for this episode just because the cake looked so delicious. I don't blame RD, Fluttershy and Rarity for sneaking a bite lol ☆ My socials ☆
Justin_Case001 4,888 September 26, 2020 Share September 26, 2020 Fun, solid episode. One of those simple, fun, cute, silly, fun episodes of little consequence. Nothing to analyze, no character or lore development, nothing to deconstruct. It's nice to have one of those once in awhile. Just some simple, olde tyme, classic, old school pony fun. Not of one my favorites, but good. Incidentally, it still kills me inside that Rarity wears false eyelashes. It's just... sad somehow....
Astralshy 26,625 April 3, 2021 Share April 3, 2021 This episode features many very delicious desserts. It's a good episode and it's fun watching it. It's really hard for me to not like it, but nothing of consequence happens here. So I cannot say it belongs to the top tier episodes of season 2. For me this episode just feels like the calm before the storm with the season 2 finale.
bigbertha 414 May 31, 2021 Share May 31, 2021 That deleted scene really should've been included since the episode feels off and kinda incomplete without it. I am, of course, referring to this.
Rosy Moonlight 369 July 10, 2022 Share July 10, 2022 (edited) S2E3: Be there for your friends even when their worries seem ridiculous to you. S2E24: Don't jump onto conclusions and gets all your facts before you make one. Two lessons that get thrown away in the first half of the finale but get relearned spectacularly in the other half. Memorable. Edited July 10, 2022 by Rosy Moonlight
Cash In 22,306 August 3, 2023 Share August 3, 2023 I've grown more fond of this episode over time. I think the mystery aspect is interesting, but it's the one thing I felt that could've been better handled. I would've preferred if they spent more time with Twilight finding and analysing the evidence. You know, instead of her just hiding it for the grand reveal. Other than that, I did really like the whole angle of this episode. I loved watching Pinkie and Twilight work together to solve the mystery. Got a laugh out of all the gags as well. I enjoyed this episode a lot! Not perfect, but I had a pretty good time with it. At first I rejected the zero, but that was because I simply didn't understand it. Now I do. Hadrien 950 October 26, 2023 Share October 26, 2023 We've already established that Pinkie is the Equestria equivalent to Sherlock Holmes, but I guess it would've been too OP to let her tackle the case and rip it apart in seconds, so Twilight is a good second choice. Just like some good old Agatha Christie book, the resolution is actually that everyone did it. Simple, easy, but not really something we could've get too since the episode keeps the clues to itself. Just like Frodo said "Alright then, keep your secret". I liked seeing the different type of extraordinary dessert the chefs brought, that Donuttopis looks reaaaaaaal good, esp if it's Krispy Kreme (damn I want donuts now). 6.5/10, of course Celestia loves cake, she's a princess.
