movies/tv A Dash of Nostalgic Irony

All right, so there another forum I frequent, Toonzone Forums. It's a forum for a discussion on cartoons. It's been around way longer than this forum, the current state of it dating back to 2001. If you know me, I'm not a fan of arguments based on nostalgia. And oh boy, this thread here is ironic.

Now, you might think with the title that this thread was probably posted a few years ago at the most, seeing as the general consensus is that Cartoon Network went downhill around 2006. Nope! It was posted around 2002.

So even people back then were complaining about new cartoons.

As a regular on ToonZone myself, I can say these probably account for at least half of the posts. Every generation does this, thinking their cartoons were the be-all, end-all. It sucks when people bring up all of the same stuff over and over again, but you can definitely find some great discussions on there as well, akin to the ones we have on here. You've just got to know where and when to find them.

Nothing clouds a person's judgement quite like nostalgia. When you love something and it produced some of your fondest memories, it's hard to accept that either it wasn't as great as you thought it was, or that something else could be better (regardless of whether it's true or not). I believe this is the biggest reason shows like The Legend of Korra receive so much hate.

There are some great discussions on there. I recently saw the best reactions from people from the ending of the latest episode of Gravity Falls. However, since this was back in the early 2000s, the internet wasn't this big thing as it is now. So forums didn't really have as detailed discussions back then.

On a side note, "Craptoon Craptoons?" Really? Was the equivalent back then of saying stuff like Breadlosers?

So even back then there were people nostalgia blind and said 90's and early 2000's stuff sucks. Obviously most of these shows are geared towards kids and the older audience said the shows they grew up with were better. I'm sure 20 years from now kids of today would say the 2010's are better or something like that.

Good one ChikoritaBrony! Has the poster even heard of Boomerang? Last time I checked, Boomerang was playing those cartoons he wanted on CN. Also, does he even know that the anime was playing in a separate programming block that took place around a certain time called Toonami meaning that in case he didn't want to run into anime, he can avoid CN at a certain time?

All my life needed was a sense of someplace to go. I don't believe that one should devote his life to morbid self-attention. I believe that someone should become a person like other people.
