cmarston1 5,959 March 26, 2015 Share March 26, 2015 It depends to be honest. One of the reasons why I enjoyed scenes like the flashback to Celestia vs Nightmare Moon in Princess Twilight Sparkle, The Mane 6 vs the changelings in A Canterlot Wedding and Twilight Vs Tirek in Twilight's Kingdom is the fact that they are more of a rarity and not the main focus in the show. While I am not opposed to more fight scenes in FIM I would rather have a few, fun, memorable ones rather than a lot of mediocre ones to be honest. Also the fight scenes are only a tiny part of reasons I like the show and don't really think that too many are needed in a show like it. But I am always more opened for more adventure based episodes such as Dragonshy, and I hope we do get to see some more of that in season 5.
Eloquence 2,076 March 26, 2015 Author Share March 26, 2015 Seeing what everyone else has to say, I think I'll add that though I'm pro-fight scenes, I think the amount we've seen thus far is enough, and I wouldn't want more than that, nor do I think the show needs more than that. In fact, I actually hope there isn't fighting in the season 5 opener. Based on what I've seen thus far, I would rather see the mane six use their powers of leadership than harmony magics (and that would go so well as a next step after their throne room was introduced too). 2 My Equestrian Empire Characters Fluttershy - Eloquence - Chamomile - Ginseng - Lovestruck Ask Me Questions! Flutter's lover <3 8,205 March 26, 2015 Share March 26, 2015 I'm not entirely sure. The Tirek vs Twilight fight was just pure awesome..Just how Tirek was on a one track mind of getting to Twilight, by any means necessary. It's been the biggest actual fight scene in the show...Well, aside from the Changelings incident, which was also pretty wicked...seeing the mane 6 work together and defeating them. I mean, the whole mane 6 have been proven to be capable fighters... Yes, even Fluttershy. So, idk, fight scenes do have a purpose....but having too many would kill the show I'd think. 1 Fluttershy's lover, she's my waifu. Frostgage 7,975 March 26, 2015 Share March 26, 2015 (edited) As long as they continue to limit how often they happen, then I'm all for them. Of course the show's strength is still the slice-of-life moments, but I don't see anything wrong with also having more action based episodes as well. In a way they could be considered a visual manifestation of the power of the Mane 6's friendship, and they look really cool too. As for the message they send, it's (unfortunately) naive to think that all problems a person/pony will face are going to be solved without conflict. Viewers shouldn't feel like they have to be excessively kind to people who don't deserve it. Edited March 26, 2015 by Frostgage 1 Signature by Lacerna | You should fill out my Johari Window. HereComesTom 2,266 March 26, 2015 Share March 26, 2015 Like everyone else says, I'm pro-fight scene, too, as long as they don't overdo it. What they have now is a pretty good balance, though I think it'd do more good than harm if they added another fight or two per season over what they're doing now. Believe it or not, we live in a world where women are often told that if a man assaults them, and they can't get away, then they should just let him do what he wants with them because trying to fight back will "just make him angry". ...My understanding of that is that that's a last resort if you don't think you can win in a fight. The objective reality of it all is that men tend to be physically stronger than women---that's why that advice is out there. Though I will admit that advice should only apply to situations where a woman doesn't think she can win (or at least do enough damage to get away), and I'll admit strength alone doesn't decide a fight---and even if it did, "tends" certainly doesn't mean "always". 1 Help the main six stop the Weather Factory Meltdown! Dark Qiviut 22,386 March 26, 2015 Share March 26, 2015 It depends. If they have a deeper meaning in the show or if there's a life-or-death situation without having to insert blatant contrivances, then I'm completely okay with it. In both Fall Weather Friends and Return of Harmony, friends got into fisticuffs for two reasons. One: They were extremely frustrated with one another. Two: they were also there to enforce morals without gimmicks. In episodes like Daring Don't, PTS, and Twilight's Kingdom, characters fought because they were in a life-or-death situation. On the other hand, the life-or-death battles relied on a lot of plot contrivances for them to work. Pineapple Bloom 511 April 5, 2015 Share April 5, 2015 Nay. I watch MLP for the cuteness, themes about friendship, lovable characters, and nice songs. Fighting just doesn't appeal to me, especially not in an adorable show like this. XD "My past does not define me, because my past is not today." Denim&Venöm 18,757 April 6, 2015 Share April 6, 2015 I'm all for it. There's not enough action in western animation. It's all either cutesy, educational or comedic. And a very good point can be made that not all problems can be solved peacefully and not all adversaries can be reasoned with. The important thing is to try those things first but at some point you have to stand up for what you believe in and for those around you. Cause if you won't protect them, and if you won't protect yourself, who will? It's not right to start a fight, but it's plenty right to finish one. That's a message more kids and adults need to learn. Stop being the victims. Start being the victors.
Winona the Dog 1,984 April 6, 2015 Share April 6, 2015 I say keep the fighting scarce. Otherwise you may as well call this My Little Pony Z or something. I like the balance it has so far.
