movies/tv Classical Sherlock or New Sherlock

Hi, I'm doing a research about sherlock. Please tell me whether you prefer the old sherlock from the classic books and TV shows or the new sherlock from BBC or the movies with Robert Downey Junior?

I personally like the books a lot but the new sherlock was a new take on the famous detective, also the actor is blazing hot XD

I prefer Elementary, the Sherlock Holmes living in America with a female Watson.

I became a Sherlock Holmes fan through the Cumberbatch series, so I'm inclined to say that. I have seen the Downey Jr movies though (for a media class!) and read some of the old books.

I quite like the recent BBC adaptation.

 

What you need to remember is that Arthur Conan Doyle never intended for Sherlock Holmes to be some great historical work. He wrote Sherlock Holmes for the here and now. It just so happened that he did it over a century ago. These are stories it absolutely makes sense to update to the current time period. If Doyle were alive today, I imagine that he'd be writing Holmes pretty much the same as how the BBC have done.

 

(For what it's worth, I used to read the originals back when I was around 12, and was quite a fan, though I always preferred Agatha Christie.)

I read the books and I enjoyed it, the movies were fine too .

There is another sherlock holmes I liked very much ! I guess there was an english version, but I'm not sure, though.

I enjoyed the old Sherlock TV series more than the newer ones because the setting is more accurate. But they're still both good.

The books are always better. But I like BBC's adaptation with Cumberbatch mostly for the fanbase.

Although the classical is rich and full of fantastic imagery, something about the modern sherlock is just much easier to take in. Having a wider audience to receive is never really a bad thing in my opinion.

Never really took much interest in the classical Sherlock Holmes stories. I really like the BBC adaption right now though, probably one of my favourite tv shows of all time. Not much of a fan of the Robert Downey Jr films though.

Is it true that Benedict Cumberbatch is a huge factor to Sherlock's popularity? Or he is just another actor from a long line of Sherlocks?

I think the RDJ movies are my favorite, although the BBC series is pretty cool too.
