How come we don't see any teenaged ponies?

Wait aren't the Mane 6 teenagers too?Maybe atleast two or three of them.

I always thought they were around 18/19. So yeah, teenagers. But I could be horribly horribly wrong.

I remember for 2-3 months I used to think the Mane 6 were all teens. Otherwise, why would Pinkie act like such a freak? It felt right when I thought they were teens just because mah love for Applejack was a little more justified, bein' 14 and all :). I imagined them to be 13 to 18 years old (Pinkie the youngest, Rarity the oldest). Then I realized that no teenager would have her own business by now (Rarity), or try to get married (Rarity, in "Best Night Ever"), and no teen would really live on their own (All but Applejack), so I came to the conclusion they're at maybe 16-17 to 23 years old (Applejack the youngest, Rarity the oldest). I was in denial just because it felt slightly more ackward in liking them as much, but the show now makes some more sense now that they seem older.

the mane 6 arent teens, they are young adults.

Aaaanyways, its true we havent seen many teens, but how can we know the age of any of the background ponies? Many of them might be teens.

"really? Do you want this sparragus like so badly? Get a life!"

Ahem, late teens are young adults.

Before the definition "teenager" there were nothing between Child and Adult.

However, considering what Lauren Faust commented, they can easily be between 20-25, with a selective maturity from 15-30.

Pinkie Pie, the most childish, might even be the oldest of them ...

id say you offcially stop being a teen at 20, and since adult has such a wide range, theres young adults and old adults

I get the feeling the mane 6 are in their late teens/early 20s, though maturity level doesn't not equal age ever.

Also, Tina Brown, Pinkie can't be the oldest. Fluttershy is a year older than her.

The Mane Six are young adults, and that means they're likely between the human ages of 18-24. They're basically as close to teenagers as you will ever get with respect to ponies.

Pony physical development seems to work in quantum leaps rather than in gradual stages.

Hmmm well Faust made the show so she knows, still, just like to say what I think anyway.

Wait a sec. we're basing this all on the fact that coming of age in equestria works exactly the same as it does here, for all we know it could be perfectly acceptable for a, let’s say fourteen year old pony to own a house, and/or have a job, we can't base everything on the way it works here.

maybe.... we don't see many fillys, compair them to young children... lets say they are in school most of the time....

maybe the teenagers are in school durring the episodes? maybe they ALL get sent to some bording school somewhere?

Maturity level is different from age. A 20 year old can conduct himself like a 15 yeard old; a 13 year old can conduct himself like a 25 year old.

Lauren isn't setting a hard and fast age on the ponies.

I wouldn't say all the mane 6 are teenagers. Rarity strikes me as a young adult. She's very serious-minded and dedicated to her work. Fluttershy and AJ also seem more adult than the rest of the mane 6. Pinkie, Twilight, and RD are clearly teenaged. Lopsided personalities and frequently make insanely stupid mistakes.

Edit: and aren't these teenagers?

I just thought they made Valley girls canon.

I find it interesting how often our estimates of age amongst the Mane Six correspond to our own age range...those of us setting them in their early twenties, such as myself, are also in our twenties, while those of us setting them as teens are generally teens, etc...we are all projecting?

Anyway, as for not seeing teenaged ponies, I think the problem is that the simplicity of the art style prevents there from being much of a transitionary phase between the foals and the adults. I personally see the CMCs as being twelve or thirteen anyway, due to the association of Cutie Marks with puberty, so if we want to see an awkward looking teenage pony, we should probably look to Fluttershy from her Cutie Mark story and later appearance again in Hurricane Fluttershy. True, she is proportioned how an actual real life pony foal technically would be, with the longer legs and so on, but in terms of the art style and the fact that the Equestrian ponies are obviously different, anatomically speaking, I am willing to say she's the closest we'd get.

I am 15 and think they are in their twenties. Also the majority here thinks they are in their twenties and I'm pretty sure the average age is 16

What about the 2 ponies that didn't let Fluttershy buy the sparagus and the other 2 that were on the hurricane thinger majiger, or maybe I'm just really stupid :3

Well... Ordinarily I would agree, but I wouldn't doubt that the Mane Six are adults. I mean, Rarity owns her own clothing business, and in the norm, we don't really see teenagers owning businesses. Assuming that the six are around the same age, we COULD conclude that they are adults, but that would be too much... However, they should be fairly close.

As for teenagers... I don't think we've SEEN any, unless the second post does count, which is likely.

I've always thought of young Fluttershy in the flashbacks as the model they'd use for other teenage ponies. There's also this guy from Putting Your Hoof Down: post-1320-0-06075300-1334094038_thumb.png

Yeah, I thought he was a teenager too...

Maybe all the teenage ponies have to complete a quest to be accepted into Pony society, and it takes them several years to complete so they're in their late teens by the time they come back.

Could be possible...

I got an idea everypony! Why doesn't every individual view them as being around their own age? I am 22 and even when I first started watching the show I always imagined them being in their late teens early 20's.

We know that Fluttershy is older than Pinkie Pie. In the "Cutie Mark Chronicles", Fluttershy appears to be older than Rainbow Dash(I assume this because Fluttershy seems to be larger than Rainbow).

Because it goes from filly to adult, great, no puberty! :D

Rainbow Dash Sonic Rainboomed them all into puberty.

Look for pictures of 80s Cheerilee. You wont want there to be teenage ponies anymore.

Am I the only one who thought she looked really cute as a teenager?

Well, as Lauren Faust said, there is no clear cut spelling out for their ages. So it's pretty much whatever age you want them to be. I always imagined them to be around 15 to 16ish. But that's just my opinion, unless episode canon changes everything.

... I just realized how silly this topic is.

Their officcial maturity is defined as ... was it 15-18?

However, their "actual" age may be older, considering that several have their own houses.

But, we currently don't know, and since these things are deliberately left ambiguous ... we may never know at all ...
