Are there any gay ponies in Equestria?

But seriously, in terms of lore, there would certainly be gay ponies in Equestria.  I'm sure they will never touch this subject on the show, but I've always said I'd be in favor of a gay character on the show.

I always imagine Lyra and Bon Bon are just friends though, just to pick an example. But i guess in terms of imagination... that leaves it more open to anything. Which is good ^^.

 

But what if someone was like. "Hey, lets make an episode about it" I just wonder how it would turn out ^^. I mean nothing shocking or anything.. just like. Some couples and just move on like it was everyday :3

In the show itself?  I would be shocked if we ever saw an explicitly gay character, but the designs and characterizations are diverse enough that you could possibly interpret one or more as being gay.  Now of course the fandom's a whole other story entirely, especially fanfiction.  You see all sorts of gay characters there, whether they're canon or OCs.  Back to the canon world though, knowing what I know about developed societies in general, I think it's safe to assume that somewhere in this particular fictional universe there is at least one gay resident of Equestria.  But again, that's head-canon that'll probably never be shown on the show itself.

Probably, but I'm taking the position that, in canon, every character presented are heterosexual unless otherwise stated. I think people who seriously think otherwise are over analyzing actions or highly misinterpreting them; that's something that seems to happen in reality as well.

Or would it be somewhat similar to the issue with Zecora in which the concept of homosexuality seen as strange, terrifying and unacceptable? I wouldn't be surprised if that were actually the case.

I know it's highly unlikely that they'll ever show an openly gay pony on the show, due to issues that might be taken the wrong way. Nevertheless, I'm sure that there are gay ponies in Equestria just like there are gay people in Real Life! Personally, if I was there, I would like to get to know said gay pony.

Yes, there probably are some filly foolers and colt cuddlers but of course the show is never going to explicitly out a pony for being gay anytime soon due to the strong possibility of some parents freaking out over it. We do have fanfics and fanart though and much of it is lesbian due to the overwhelming majority of the ponies being female though I suspect that sexual orientations in Equestria are probably as difference as they are among humans.

 

Or there is also the possibility that they might not have the same concept of that as we do. In many ancient cultures such as the Romans for example they didn't really have a concept of gay, straight ect... In ancient Rome what we would consider bisexual was normal and expected behavior for men with men regularly having sexual relations with both males and females though there was a strong taboo against being the "passive" partner is said relations because to them sex was just as much about power and domination as it was about pleasure (I will let you use your imaginations as to what that means so this dosen't get too graphic). I could the ponies being a bit like the Romans though without the power and domination aspects (except for ponies who into S&M).

Canon: Not more than usual. Just, y'know, standard, like with ponies from other races as well. Everyone's different and normal, if that makes sense.

that seems to be inconsistent with cadence and shining armor - princess twilight and cadence allude that the babies do indeed come out of cadence with the latest episode of cadence telling twilight they are having a baby.

I assume so. I mean when you have a population that large existing in a secondary world that, for the most part, behave like real people, it would be silly to assume that gay people don't exist in it because they always have in our reality.

 

As for actual examples that's a little harder to determine because the show kind of skirts romance in general whenever it's not Hearts in Hooves Day and Cadence and Shining aren't around. (And even when they are, their marriage doesn't entirely define their characters.)

 

Although those scenes with Lyra and Bon Bon don't exactly leave much to doubt that something is going on.
