"The Cutie Mark Chronicles". The reference was strong but it really didn't tie into the plot all too well. I didn't expect a reference to Double Dare in "Maud Pie". Plus the Grinch tries to stop Christmas by stealing all of the christmas items much like how Rainbow tries to stop Winter the same sort of way. Arimaspi is named after a race of one-eyed people in Greek mythology who fought with griffons over their gold. The choice Gilda makes between saving Pinkie and Rainbow and recovering the Idol is reminiscent of Indiana Jones. Twilight's line of dialogue "winter is coming" references Game of Thrones. Rainbow Dash's face in Tanks For The Memories references the Grinch's evil smile. Discord and The Smooze are dressed as Harry and Lloyd from Dumb and Dumber. The filly staring at the glowing door at the Gala references The Shining. The Pest pony and Applebloom reference Darth Vader and The Ghostbusters. The back and forth scene featuring three pegasus ponies is reminiscent of a classic routine by Abbott and Costello. Twilight Sparkle saying "it's a trap!" in Cutie Map Part 1 The box seen in Make New Friends But Keep Discord references Metal Gear. Q from Star Trek is played by the voice actor of Discord. Data was someone else entirely. It was Q who said it, to Worf, not Data. Also apparently he's just eating books, and didn't actually say the line. Still counts, though. Good catch, by the way. I looked it up once I read your post, but I wouldn't have found it on my own. And Sweetie Belle becomes covered in some gold. Gold + Snitch = the Golden Snitch from Harry Potter. I think almost any Potterhead like me would be able to notice that. One of my most favorite references ever used in any of my favorite shows ever. In Bloom and Gloom, there's a poster of Rainbow Dash with a straight rainbow behind her and a starry background which resembles Nyan Cat. The same poster was shown in the Myserious Mare Do Well. And I felt Make New Friends But Keep Discord as a whole was similar to the fanfiction Bride of Discord but not quite like it.
