So by that its ok if famous YouTubers making jokes on people in games in general. But making fun of YouTubers is wrong?

As Banul said.

There's a difference between making a joke at the expense of something the person has actually done, and just flat out calling them names or accusing them of screwing animals as they did once with a LPer that was a furry.

I never thought you hated him. He's VERY entertaining, and more often than not I take his reviews as comedy rather than actual suggestions, though if a game is legitimately horrible I won't touch it, of course.

Oh I love to watch the comedy of his reviews, but, again, he does make a lot of completely legitimate points when it comes to story and artistic creativity. What I don't like his habit of trying to "break" games. Finding some kind of exploitable bug or approach that results in easy victories.

Part of that, I get, he's a critic, it's his job to look for problems like that. Thing is, in Skyrim I don't huddle on a ledge the monster can't reach and fling arrows at him because that's not what would happen in a Heroic Fantasy adventure, that's an immersion breaking tactic taking advantage of the game's limitations, which calls attention to the artifice.

When I play games, I long to be lost in them, to live the experience! So often these "easily broken" strategies never occur to me and I just enjoy the experience. If ignorance is bliss, hand me my dunce cap and controller please!

I don't see the difference to be honest. Ok then, let me pick another example. He makes fun of AVGN sometimes slightly, he's called Taco-Man, he says he doesn't hate him but makes jokes on him. Same with Game Grumps. Is that ok, no personal attack or anything, just plain jokes.

Please, just listen to all of us. It will save us all the trouble of repeatedly explaining everything.

Look up. I answered it  there.

Seems fine to me. Not personally attacking the Grumps, but criticizing them on their attitude. Arin really can be pretty negative, though I think it's exaggerated a bit by the video.

Note: The video is not saying "LOL GET A LOAD OF THESE LOSERS". It's parodying their sometimes negative attitude.

Also, to add onto what Banul said, they're not attacking the general audience either, which you were clearly doing in your initial comment.

Alright then. So a bunch of YouTubers make fun of another YouTuber with a slight jokes. Just as they mock game companies.

Ok, then it sounds cool i guess ^ _ ^.

I guess we can agree on that.

If i slightly mocked them would that be ok with no personal attack. All in good jokes as one would say.

Though I don't find absolutely everything they do or say to be funny, I do like both the AVGN and the Nostalgia Critic.  Particularly the former, since I'm a long time Nintendo fan who grew up playing the NES and, in some cases, can appreciate his purposely exaggerated frustration. xD  There's no doubt in my mind that the AVGN actually loves video games; I'm quite jealous of his amazing collection.  I saw a series of videos the Nostalgia Critic did focusing solely on old commercials; many of which I immediately recognized.  It's pretty clear to me that the guy, despite what he may say in character, has some lingering affection for some the things he criticizes.

Do they use "bad language?"  Yeah.  Are many of the jokes immature?  Sure.  But what they're actually doing is portraying over-the-top characters while talking about things they either enjoy or once enjoyed.  If they just sat there praising everything and waxing nostalgic while tears slid slowly down their faces, it'd be boring.  I think part of the joke is that no one could possibly get as angry as they do about the things that they pretend to get angry about...  Without, of course, looking pretty ridiculous.

Let's see, you know what was another Nostalgia Critic review I liked? Sharknado!

Did he make any great points to the idea of underground successes from bizarre ideas? No not really, but he and the Cinema Snob embraced the insanity of that movie to deliver some killer comedy.

Funny how I'm a bigger fan of the Critic and a cinephile, while you are a bigger fan of the nerd and a Nintendo guy.

And I'm a big fan of Jim Sterling and a PC guy! He reviews very bad Steam games, if you didn't know, and does some interesting punditry on the games industry.

Jim Sterling is probably my favorite game media guy. I follow everything he does.

Thank God for Jim fucking Sterling, son.

Oh I know, I've been following him off and on for years. Oddly, he seems like the kind of guy I'd get along with. Ever see a kind of person who, even if you disagree with them, in point, you don't in spirit, and just feel that hypothetically you could be friends should the stars have aligned?

Not to say I'm a stalker or anything mind you, I'm speaking hypothetically.

Perhaps you and I realize that they're not to be taken tooooo seriously. x )  AVGN takes me on a ridiculous romp through my similarly ridiculous childhood.  Though, every so often, he will say something that's right on the money lol.

Locking for cleanup; will unlock in due time.

I'll be unlocking this now.

While some off-topic discussion can be permitted within a thread, let's keep it under control. It's one thing to allow a discussion to grow organically; it's another to veer off course.

Also, let's keep things civil, and I'm happy to see that the thread was able to get from that and sort of back to the point. However a number of posts that I hid were essentially finger-pointing at other members. That will not be allowed; period.

Thank you.

While that's true and it's my fault for not bringing it up, they still haven't made any efforts I'm aware to reach out to people like QueenieZ and make it right. They also took a hell of a long time to stop doing the MST videos that lead to the attacks.

There's still the whole affiliation with SA as well.

I haven't followed that particular case involving QueenieZ; even so, all things considered, I'm uncertain as to how much good the two of them could do by drawing attention to it, given how the attention would likely be perceived at a broader level.

I do agree Retsupurae's earlier works were especially cruel. Although I'm making no excuses for them, they were also "children" of the age (2007/8): YouTube was fairly new, Let's Plays were novel, technology was largely limited, and the SA/4chan culture was at its zenith. It's not unlike how the YouTube Poop community turned over into drama in 2007/8 after everyone began using CDi clips and the same memes/jokes: it seemed sensible for the time; in truth, the in-fighting was stupid as it was hurtful.

I suspect slowbeef, who's now married and has a kid, would recognize the needless nastiness of the early retsupuraes. The same probably goes for Betus, an otherwise affable fellow, if his own videos are to be believed.

I think QueenieZ had her channel taken down due to copyrighted audio from I think the Tales of Symphonia OVA. I don't know if it's true or not.

As much as I like Retsupurae, I admit that some of the riffs, especially early on, were going a bit too far. Even they regretted doing them years later. For example, there was the infamous Star Fox 64 riff where they made fun of a little kid. Slowbeef admitted that they wouldn't be doing RPs on kids after that video.

That's one thing I do give them credit for, the fact they grew up and realized they were going way to far and legitimately hurting people with some of their videos. I recall one where they did their best to conceal where they got the LP from and BEGGED the viewers not to do the usual bullshit, I think it was the last one they ever did and one of them publicly said their insane fans is why they've stopped doing riffs and switched more to anonymous (and silent) LPs where they riff the game and the gameplay itself instead of making personal attacks.

I do feel for them, with the insane fandom and all.

I love NC, he's in my top ten youtubers :D

I think people take him too seriously though. It's a comedy show for pity sake, he over exaggerates a lot. Sure, not everone finds that funny but that's just their personal preference. Never understood why people hate on him just cuz they aren't fans of him
