Was Sunset Shimmer based off of Catrina?

The way you explained it was very alike each other.

As you do know Discord is a reference to Star Trek, its very possible Sunset Shimmer is a reference to Catrina.

I'm probably 100% wrote and look like an idiot. 

 

I'm autistic. I notice similarities in everything...

I am autistic as well, but I never seen the movie Catrina is in so I can't really point out that similarity as well..

Sunset Shimmer, the pony, was based off a previous mail-in exclusive pony from a previous generation named Sunshimmer. Her colouring and cutie mark is pretty much identical.

 

Other than that, Catrina and Sunset might be similar in temperament, but that was about it.

 

As for Snips and Snails, they're just easily manipulated by charismatic females with grandiose schemes and manner, it seems.
