derpyhooves86 33 July 4, 2015 #1 Share July 4, 2015 A conversation about the russian front line preparing the old WW2 outposts with troops and tanks "has been reported on VICE news" war being a probable outcome. scary stuff! which also got me thinking of what else we can expect our of our future in the next 10, 20, 50 years.. what will every thing be like? On the positive side can we see a more open future were theres an elimination of gender-biases! I think in 10 or so years the underdog the minoritys like LARPers, Gamers, CoSplayers, Board gamers, Artists, those of us who listen to game OST'est and so on are going to be calling the shots and everyone will be much happier.. or at least i wish. what do you say hummm? mabey invasion of aliens perhaps?
Ribbonfree 2,383 July 4, 2015 #2 Share July 4, 2015 It will be as if some amount of time has passed. My insights are incredible, I know. I think there will be some significant scientific watersheds that society will proceed to mostly misuse beautifully with the occasional awesomeness and the cycle of slow and painful progress will continue. Jomm 25 July 4, 2015 #3 Share July 4, 2015 i think nothing will happen in the future how could something happen someplace not yet created? if your in the future wouldn't that make it the present? what would the future be then? ill tell you all of us on a beach sitting around a camp fire looking off into the ocean, lighten up by a silver pale moon, as its waves crash, creating a gorgeous curtain of sparkling water droplets, floating on the cool night breeze

Bendy 1,821 July 4, 2015 #6 Share July 4, 2015 (edited) We all die. One thing is certain that we are all going to die no matter what we do. No matter what we would do the Earth will slowly die regardless. No matter how green we go, the Earth will still die eventually and the sun along with it. We need to travel to space to colonize other worlds! And if in the event an hostile alien species makes contact with us, we may be forced to subjugate them for our very survival. Even then, us humans will eventually have to fight other aliens over the last remaining life giving stars in the universe. Once the stars go out... we and any other life in the universe are all dead basically. Unless, we upload ourselves to become immortal sapient minded machines. But even then we will have to try find a way to survive the heat death of the universe. As machines we might live deep underground in some planet some where to hide away from the freezing cold Edited July 4, 2015 by Bendy Check out my "My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic" fan fiction on Fimfiction.net under the same username here: Rush. Flint Sparklehooves 37 July 4, 2015 #8 Share July 4, 2015 (edited) Increasing resource scarcities. Trillions more people, ever increasing consumption levels--exponential growth in these areas does not end well. The strains are already showing up in many of the economic and geopolitical problems we've been seeing, especially since 2008. The future will be much different than most people are currently thinking. People are stuck in tech-raptures and fantasies--that way of thinking is preventing people from getting real with things, and preparing for a tough future. Flint Sparklehooves 37 July 5, 2015 #11 Share July 5, 2015 (edited) Look to your local community and economy, try to strengthen and rebuild that. Maybe learn to grow some food. Learn some skills that will make you immediately useful to your locality in the future. Help revive some of the towns and small cities that have suffered over the last 50+ years, but will be crucial for our REAL future. Forget these grandiose fantasies about space colonies (imagine the freakin' cost of that!!), glass and steel "green tech" metropoli stretching outward and upward forever, super-meds keeping you alive to 140, robots doing your chores, highways full of self-driving cars, etc. etc. FORGET IT. Time to get real again. Edited July 5, 2015 by Flint Sparklehooves

Guest July 5, 2015 #17 Share July 5, 2015 More extreme weather, colder winters and hotter summers, gas prices increase to an average of $4.00/gal. Lots of awesome games and movies, a women president, at least 1 major terrorist attack in the US. Technology continuing to develop and move forward, newer, faster computer components. KatonRyu 1,033 March 17, 2021 #19 Share March 17, 2021 I don't know. I used to think society would progress, but as I'm looking into history more and more I'm beginning to see that while our technology and means of communication change, humanity itself hasn't changed much in the past couple of thousand years. I'd like to believe that, with our greater understanding of the world and natural processes, we'd be able to put a stop to climate change and make the world a more rational and free place to live in, but all in all I'm just getting more pessimistic about the future in general. Not necessarily directly about my own future, just the world as a whole.
Fluttershyfan94 5,744 March 19, 2021 #20 Share March 19, 2021 I genuinely think that not too far in the future we will likely have annihilated ourselves in some way. We have an imminent problem with overpopulation, yet we do nothing about it regardless of the fact that the real deciding factor is our pure water supply and our food production. Of course with modern technology we have been able to manage both of these, we have more or less infinite water and our food production is more or less infinite as well. Yet this has only really been true for the "west" most of the world is without clean water, most of the world deals with food shortage this factor alone will lead to civil unrest around the world or majority of the world I should say. This so called majority not being the west, we then do these nations the favor of a massive brain drain from these many still developing countries so they lack the resources to actually deal with it. So now you have majority of the world literally at the brink of starvation and war, meanwhile we have drained these nations of the people they need to handle it. So that's at least the majority of the world, then you have the west trying to make everyone in the world an enemy and any war nowadays just relies on the other individual not using the nuclear weaponry that they have been stockpiling for decades or at least the weaponry we do know of at least. With the USA now exchanging its powers to China this will mean a more China centered future so we can expect more Chinese standards of living. Therefore very least there will be less freedom, freedom of speech will be nonexistent similar to Europe and majority of Asia as in there won't be freedom of speech as we define it. Then of course with the fall of USA we are going to be seeing a vastly different world, we have lived a US centered world now for many decades. This means American culture and values have been at the forefront of modern civilization and this will no longer be our standard. Instead we will have Chinese ones, therefore the world likely won't be a place worth living in even if we didn't nuke ourselves into oblivion. That said, most likely we will have some type bioweapon or a nuclear war that will at least wipe us out of course the planet will still continue spinning and will do so for at least ten million years until the sun eventually does swallow the planet. Luna the Great of all the Russias 3,015 March 20, 2021 #21 Share March 20, 2021 I am very pessimistic. More or less, I consider the process of degeneration to has rapidly accelerated more or less since World War 1. Based on what has already happened... -Every crisis, real or fabricated, is a justification to further expand the power of government and bureaucracies that will live on far longer than their stated purpose. People are made increasingly submissive as they see their government as something like a benevolent father who will care for their personal problems. Whenever there is a crisis or a perceived crisis, the answer to said crisis will basically always be to give even more power to government and to ensure that people's liberty are undermined to a greater extent (of course, a convincing fairy tale must be fabricated to justify this). At least until a crisis so massive occurs that will destroy the government or at least much of its power, it will serve to further expand it. -With the belief in Egalitarianism and Self-Expression, degeneracy will be promoted to a further extent which will lead to the erosion of social cohesion (things considered socially unacceptable and immoral today may be the political rights crusade of tomorrow). People will choose to be more impulsive rather than delay gratification for a greater profit later (it certainly does not help if interest rates are kept artificially low). People of higher social status perceived as evil and people of lower social status perceived as the ideal. -Decline of the West as the dominant civilization. This will not be so much because other civilizations have become more powerful militarily or economically, but rather because the West has become so de-moralized; perhaps they may rationalize that they deserve it in some way... or at least the members of the elites will promote a self-flagellating and masochistic mindset. Astralshy 28,048 June 19, 2021 #22 Share June 19, 2021 We'll have technology progression of course and some think can be already seen even if it's unclear when they ready for mass market. There will also be other changes like the occurrence of extreme weather event. I hope we don't have to face another pandemic in my life time, but his is also can always happen. We'll have also some changes in society, but I'm really pessimistic about it and it seems to always run in a loop. What the future will be like? We have much better technology, life in harder environment and have the same problems in society. The same old dough with new pieces of chocolate in a new baking form.
