Found Footage Films! I honestly really love them! :D

Course their really aren't that many I can find, mostly because I'm picky about them.

I don't find anything wrong with them (well, maybe a few things), I think there's so much you do

with them just like anything else! So, I want to hear your thoughts about Found Footage Films,

how do you feel about them? If you have a favorite, what is it?

By the way my favorite is VHS 2!

At first, those types of films really were really creepy. It made it feel a lot more real. However that style is too overdone, and had just became clichė. That's not to say that there weren't good ones. Blair which project and the Paranormal Activity movies are one of them.

I'm not a big fan of them. The ones where the camera is in motion and not static make no sense to me since they're basically in a life or death situation, why are they lugging around a camera?

Yeah I agree, but isn't it still possible to expand on the concept more?

These films are far too common nowadays.

I still enjoy them though

True, maybe it needs a break, or at least some more ideas.

I really don't want them to die out, I enjoy them too much! DX

Let's just say my opinion's not high

Why you say that? Something particular that you don't like about them?

I like the lost footage movies. But I would LOVE a Lost Footage style horror game!

I thought they had those. o___o

If not, we need one immediately! Quick! Which company should make it?

There are a few that try to be creative with the camera, or at least still have a reason to carry it.

I find them to be quite entertaining to watch :smug:

They are entertaining, but very creepy. I remember finishing up Paranormal Activity, and as soon as I went to

bed, there was a loud bang inside the walls of the house! Scared the crap out of me, especially when my mom

asked to come with her into attic. The location of said bang. Turns out it was the pippes. XD

I am pretty sure this sums it up in one picture:sig-3926010.motion_sickness_by_blacksake

HA!! XD

That's very true, I'm surprised no one puts a warning for that.

WARNING: This movie may contain lots of shakey cam!!!

The problem with any genre or style is that when a new original style comes out and has great success, everybody else wants to piggy back on the cash cow. The end results being a bunch of crappy rip-offs that make that once original and fresh idea Clichė

I like found footage films for the most part, but they are DEFINITELY becoming way too common now, and what's sad is a lot of found footage films are just boring cliches or copies of films we've already seen. It's like nothing's original anymore, Hollywood just wants to copy everything, My favorite found footage films are The Blair Witch Project, Paranormal Activity, and Cloverfield.

By the way, anyone heard about the new horror found footage film, The Gallows?

I really like them. Even the bad ones, because they are so hilarious at times.

That may be true, but there are movies out there that can still keep the Found Footage films alive! 8D

Hopefully we'll get some more good ones before the year is over!

And yeah I've heard of it, but I don't have a good feeling about it. >___>

Yeah, I guess even if you have bad ones you can still enjoy them.

My favorite is Chronicle. It's a phenomenal movie. Though I usually don't care for found footage movies as they're overdone

If done right these can be pretty cool and creepy :) The shakey cam can get on my nerves though if taken too far >_> I don't really get motion sickness to the point where I puke like some people, but my head can start to hurt if this technique to invoke "realism" is taken too far :eww:

Isn't all the "found" footage fake?

I'm not a fan of horror films, (which is apparently the entirety of this genre) so I doubt I'd care for these films.

Nowadays, found footage films are an over saturated genre that lacks any creativity. Which is really strange given the amount of potential that it holds. It's a genre that can seem completely real even if we know it's not.

My favorite of the genre by far is the Blair Witch Project, which I consider to be one of the best horror films ever created. I cannot even recall any decent found footage films in recent memory. It's a pretty stale genre at this point, thanks to the obvious cash grabbing by some film makers.

Yeah Chronicle is pretty awesome! ^ ^

That seems to be the main problem, but their are some good ones to keep the balance. I would really hate for the genre to disappear. DX

Yeah, but their was a film that almost got the director arrested because they thought it was real, which to be honest, the violence in the movie looked very real.

Well not all of the genre is just horror, you got movies like Chronicle, Earth to Echo, and Project Almanac, but yeah minority of it is horror. >__>

There's still hope for the genre right?

It has become a style of horror which in the right context can be used to great effect. I personally like the style used in video games to promote the horror and really sell it to me. In the prospect of it being in films can make or break the movie for me. I still believe it can be used in many contexts but in short sections here and there. I believe a new horror film called "The Gallows" will be using this type of style and that looks very terrifying.

After watching The Gallows, I can safely say that the found footage genre has become stale. There's no tension or suspense, it's just cheap jump scares (poorly thought-out ones I might add).

Most Found Footage horror movies aren't meant to be good horror movies, or good movies in general, they're made for profit. They might be bad, but because they're so cheap, they're guaranteed to make their budgets back on opening weekend.

So The Gallows was as bad as I've heard?

Yes, yes it is. It had some things working for it, like the atmosphere, but for the most part, it was a very poorly made film.
