Rowdy Roddy Piper, or Hot Rod as he was also called. Died as of today. He became 61 years old.

It shouldn't really be much of a shock, since Piper was known to use alot of drugs and alcohol. But it still is very heartbreaking.

Piper was part of the first Wrestlemania main event where he teamed up with "Mr.Wonderful" Paul Orndorff, against Hulk Hogan and Mr.T.

He also had a very controversial talk show segment called Pipers Pit. The most famous one was probably the one with Superfly Jimmy Snuka:

He was a true pioneer when it comes to Heels in Wrestling and even inspired future wrestlers like CM Punk.

Rest in Peace hot rod. :(

my fav Piper moment, is actually from Legends House, when his team beat Jimmy Heart's team. He mocked Jimmy Heart complaining about them gaining a goal, while Tony Atlas's cart was broken down.

"'I want my mommy, it's not fair!' Now you know, what it was like, listening to you, on that foghorn for 20 years!"

We lost a rowdy fighter, but Heaven just gained a rowdy soldier. RIP Hotrod. You will be greatly missed... :(

Hey look here...beavers! You better hide your wives, hide your husbands, and look here, both of you, hide your kids, cause we're coming!

Aw, no!  I saw him in person a couple of years ago during a showing of They Live! at the Trocadero in Philly.  He was so awesome, and was just amazed that the audience kept cheering during the movie when something cool happened.  A local bakery had made him a They Live! themed cake complete with sunglasses, which he was absolutely thrilled about.

Best picture I can find of it:

The hell!? First Dusty, now Roddy too? Wrestling just lost two icons in the span of a month!

I hope his recent work will still live on.

You know what is amazing? Eventhough i don't wish death upon anyone, it's really amazing that a guy like Jake the snake Roberts is still alive. I mean, i love Jake and all. But considering the kind of live he lived, he should've been dead by now.

Again, not wishing it though.

I was actually really surprised sometime this year when I learned that apparently WWE still has a rather large fanbase and has been making the necessary adaptations to stay relevant. I saw they opened up a streaming service, which makes the pay-per-views far cheaper to watch even. That was a big thing because really, we're in the age where pay-per-view is dead. With the internet, DVDs, streaming services and whatnot, pay-per-views were just too insanely expensive and not worth the price. It's nice to see though that WWE is doing what it takes to stay in business, even if I'm not a fan myself. I watched it a little when I was a lot younger though.

Sadly though it seems as though they are making a lot of negative news lines lately.

To be fair, Roddy wasn't exactly on the straight and narrow either. I wouldn't be surprised if he and Jake did some shots together.

But at the very least, Jake is finally recovering from it all. And I'm sure Roddy was one of the happiest people for him.

I don't even watch let alone follow wrestling anymore, but this is still a shocker to me. I loved it when he made appearances every now and then when I was younger. Everyone's time will come eventually, but he will be missed.

That was my exact thought when I first heard the news about Roddy.  Another ring legend I grew up watching is no longer with us.  :(  I really hated Piper back in the '80s.  At the time, my immature mind thought wrestling was (probably) real and I couldn't believe what he did to my then favorite wrestler Jimmy Snuka.  And as infamous as it was at the time, it's still hard to believe that has become one of the most memorable sneak attacks in wrestling history.  Piper was good as a good guy but he was even better as a heel.  He was such an innovator and inspired many future wrestlers.

Rest in peace, Roddy.
