ThePoniMan 164 August 4, 2015 Share August 4, 2015 (edited) I am writing this post sort of as a vent, but I want to see people's opinions on this subject. I have never personally encountered a true hater who looked down upon me for liking MLP. However, all I see on Youtube is people saying, "Burn in hell, Bronies" or "The reason I don't like bronies is because they shove stuff in people's faces." What are they talking about? Before I became interested in the show, I have never noticed this. Sure, it may have happened when the trend first began, but now I think things have settled down... Except for the haters. The reason there are so many haters is because they claim we "shove stuff down their throats." I think it has gone as far as them believing this is true because of how many people accept the idea that it is what we do. These people just assume that's what we do because it has become a recognized concept. It just makes me so angry because I have no evidence of bronies actually doing this as much as they say (except maybe on Pony videos where haters make intentional comments). Also, if someone comments on something and has a Pony profile picture but says nothing related to ponies, some smart-ass has to say, "DIE BRONY." Is it really the bronies that are shoving stuff down the people's throats? Or is it the haters who keep pulling the fandom into everyday life? For the most part, I have noticed that bronies generally keep to themselves, except for a select few, that is. Edited August 4, 2015 by Joseph Stallion 3 "In Poniet Russia, Joseph Stallion is you." Mothra 764 August 4, 2015 Share August 4, 2015 I think it really depends on what kind of person you are. There are some people that go to the extreme to express their beliefs on both sides, but a lot of the time people will only agree with others that share their opinion (extreme or not) but will criticize others that don't share the same beliefs, again, extreme or not. Usually, I'd say that all the people on both sides shouldn't be as pushy or as threatening, but I've never seen a brony tell someone to die or kill themselves for disliking the show. Haters on the other hand, while not all of them, do post the meanest things anyone could ever think of, so far as some fans committing suicide for being bullied about it, and to a lesser extent, some developing anxiety issues and such. So I'm with you on this one, though more for this to never exist anywhere rather than strictly in mlp, but I will admit in mlp it seems that the haters are the only side that's doing these awful things, unlike a few others fandoms, at least from what I've seen
TubeSock2018 325 August 4, 2015 Share August 4, 2015 Just ignore them. That's what the block button is for. If anything, I'm amazed this is still a problem. And while, yes, you can't control what people post, you don't have to let it bother you. What does it matter what people say? Bronies shove it in our faces. Are you shoving MLP in people's faces? No. Then who cares.

My issue is just a common misconception that irks me because I was watching a video with a lot of cringe-worthy stuff, and everyone was complaining about MLP out of everything. I don't know. I never express my hate to them so that I cannot please them The thing about brony haters is that online they say all their crap but in real life probably wouldn't do anything to you if you told them you like MLP. Gambit 74 August 4, 2015 Share August 4, 2015 You shouldn't really pay attention to people like that, I don't think any pony should pay attention to the haters, those people will never be rational, all they do is yell in our faces stuff like "F*CK OFF BRONIES YOURE ALL WEIRDOS" so yeah, don't even bother arguing, we'll always be considered "sick perverted weirdos" for those jerks. Stardust* 3,302 August 4, 2015 Share August 4, 2015 I have been bullied almost all of my life, and I still can't seem to get away from it. Not necessarily about MLP but about other things, freckles, glasses, the list goes on. I still struggle with what people say to me even at 25 years old it will hit me but I think about it and you have to look at who is saying it. I feel sorry for those who have to belittle me and degrade me as a person, they must really hate themselves to put their anger on someone else who is happy within themselves and doing things that make them happy. 1 Stardust My Art My Non-Pony Art Ask A Pony
Kyoshi Frost Wolf 42,070 August 4, 2015 Share August 4, 2015 If anything, the haters are just advertising the show for us. On Youtube, I see people with MLP avatars get hated all the time without ever bringing up the show, the haters do it first. Many people are starting to really get tired of the random hatred there though, so that is good. Regardless of how far they go on the internet, that is all it is, just the internet. The best thing to do is to ignore them, there is nothing they can do.

The Crimson Cross 7,532 August 4, 2015 Share August 4, 2015 I don't think its really a question of how far haters are going. Just take a good old look at how publicly humiliating some of us bronies are. I know plenty of people who asked "How bad could the show really be? I'll have to see for myself" And insta-brony. Anyway, who cares about haters? Not me that's for sure. In fact I give 0% shits so I won't even notice that stuff. Now with more added tea leaves! ThePoniMan 164 August 4, 2015 Author Share August 4, 2015 Is their idea of shoving stuff in their faces fan work showing up on their favorite site or what? Yep. That is basically it. They think that we shove stuff in their faces just because people "ponify" everything and infect the internet with out massive content. Really, we have no control of how far this pony stuff goes on the internet... It just sort of happens at this point, and therefore we aren't really being that aggressive anymore to push out our stuff. It's like this... The pony fever is a plague infecting the internet and its people. We can't control it. It's not like we intentionally dropped a nuke on the internet "In Poniet Russia, Joseph Stallion is you." Banul 3,831 August 4, 2015 Share August 4, 2015 The Youtube comments section is not exactly a bastion of discussion and discourse. It's not just MLP. People are willing to fight over just about anything in a low stakes, anonymous environment. Just don't take anything you see there seriously. It honestly matters very little what gets said there. ThePoniMan 164 August 4, 2015 Author Share August 4, 2015 Just take a good old look at how publicly humiliating some of us bronies are. As much as I hate to admit it, you are right. I have seen some cringe-worthy bronies throughout my time on the internet, but a lot of us do have issues, many of which we cannot control. I, for one, am very awkward socially with people I don't know well. I can talk to them and stuff, but I just feel like I say the wrong stuff and become very conscious of my body movements. Then I feel as if I say something really random and emotionless... Yet I am HIGHLY aware of what I am doing, which kind of makes it worse. Stuff like this is a common trend in the fandom and people take advantage of it to make fun of the fandom. Also, I used to utterly hate cosplay and view it as cringe-worthy. Despite that, it is starting to grow on me. Even though something inside me still says it is weird for a full-grown man dress up as Fluttershy, I think that this entire fandom has begun to change my perspective of things. I stop focusing on what it is, but rather the art that is there: the true beauty of what was created rather than the nitty-gritty facts of whatever is going on behind the scenes. 1 "In Poniet Russia, Joseph Stallion is you." Kerberossz 1,929 August 4, 2015 Share August 4, 2015 Tbh, I have never really payed attention to it, people has their own opinion about everything so if they wanna act like this, then do, I honestly don't care. I have seen at many places that people constantly splitting bull**** about something that people like, not just only mlp, or fight with each other and debating about something which is completly unnecessary so today's episode moral is: People usually enjoy degrading something they find inconvenient and obtrude their negative opinion ,even if it's totally inconsequent, to somebody who likes that thing or has another opinion about the disputed topic and if it appears somewhere else, they will be there and make their meaning perfectly plain again until people approve their statement. In my opinion people who writes these comments are the real "shove stuff down their throats" guys.
Invincible 2,092 August 4, 2015 Share August 4, 2015 People hate what they do not understand. They cannot understand why bronies are interested in the show, and most of their hatred is unfounded and baseless. I guess i can see where haters are coming from when they say bronies are shoving things in their faces, but the same can't be said for all of them. My best guess is that people choose to hate on the fringe minorities because of their poor familiarity with most of them. Hazy Skies 1,010 August 4, 2015 Share August 4, 2015 (edited) *Sigh* just posted a long reply and accidentally reloaded the page.. -_- great.. now i have to re-type everything.. I haven't really taken notice of the amount of haters around.. But they're most isolated to the space that is Youtube and it's comment section.. :/ Most bronies (Or fandom members in general) are often quite sensitive about being taunted or despised because of what they watch, like or do.. As such they often respond negatively due the the fact about them feeling hurt about what's said or shown.. This is what, in most cases, the original posters are after.. the response to further tease or taunt the responder(s).. In some cases for their own enjoyment.. in others, to make them feel bad.. Either way, a response is what they want.. It gives them a target.. In my experience there aren't really too many "haters" around.. at least where i go anyways.. Most others are either "dislikers" or "neutrals" ... Dislikers usually show some form of negativity but it usually doesn't escalate further unless provoked somehow.. Neutrals just ignore it or accept it, they like what they like.. they'll let you like what you like.. and that's fine The funny thing is.. It's actually the haters that are usually the ones that rub the fact that they hate it in everyone's faces, rather than the bronies or other fandoms bragging they like it xD Many people have their own ways of getting by without being effected (or barely effected) by the negativity towards them.. With me being one who's been picked on and bullied throughout their childhood, i have felt hurt a lot.. Here are some things that often help me: • Bottle-necking the pain is a bad idea.. • Try responding in a neutral manner.. • Ignore hateful comments, and only respond when absolutely necessary.. • Many of those who taunt/tease fandoms and post it do this for fun.. accept that fact and move on.. • There are those who genuinely dislike/hate certain things.. accept this too.. Not everyone can like everything.. • Be amongst communities who feel the same way as you.. like us bronies herding here • Try not taking anything to heart.. For once pain is stored there, it can be harder to release.. Edited August 4, 2015 by AURAequine

Revy ~ Two Hands 862 August 4, 2015 Share August 4, 2015 The blowback against 'bronies' peaked in 2013 it's not as bad as was now. Maybe it's because the fanbase is less actively trying to ensure it has a place in culture, it's already been fully commercialized in every possible aspect up to and including daikamakura's..no seriously. So people have eased off on pushing it. Not only that but to me it looks like furries are getting more public exposure which takes the heat of us since everyone seems to hate furries anyway. There was a lot of 'ermaghad Poniez 4 life look at dis AMV of Twilight Sparkle normies you will become one with us! Join the Herd!!' back in 2011, 2012, and 2013 I think it's a lot less than it used to be now. Anyone who isn't interested in the show by now probably isn't going to be. ~Rogue~ 193 August 4, 2015 Share August 4, 2015 See, the problem people have with the MLP fandom, and just any fandom in general, is that they have a bad experience with a few people who DO shove it down their throats, and then they think everybody else is out to 'convert' them as well. If you open up to someone and say 'I'm a Brony' in a public comment section where anybody can post without getting in trouble, of course you're going to get yelled at. In public though, it would be a different story. People have the anonymity of the internet, so they are going to be able to say much worse things then they'd think of in real life. With that point forward, if something exists, some people WILL hate it. If somebody has the ability to mock somebody else without the risk of getting into real trouble, it is inevitable. There isn't much that you can do to stop the hate. However, one problem I see constantly is bait. People make hateful comments to intentionally rile a fandom up, and they fall for it. They comment back, making themselves look like their trying to shove their ideals of 'Friendship and Tolerance' down their throats. Good quality bait is almost always guaranteed replies. I like to follow one simple rule about commenting. If the comment you are making is negative in anyway, don't. Just don't do it. You'll make yourself look stupid, and you'll be the laughing stock of that comment section. It also ruins your email inbox. Just a word of advice to you guys. Think before you reply to hateful comments. It might be bait. Most kiddies on Youtube are pretty bad at intentionally baiting others, but not all of the internet is the same. backpon 321 August 4, 2015 Share August 4, 2015 In my experience the people that hate it the most are the most afraid of liking it. I know I was, I liked to joke about how stupid bronies were, then I went home and watched it and was like Laughter. That's me. I see it not only as the aspect of a good friend, but also a virtue for life! To let the world roll over me and my friends (psst that's you) and enjoy every moment is my life goal. So let me make you laugh... Let me make you smile... Let me brighten your day... You may be all the better for it
RavenholmZombie 1,330 August 4, 2015 Share August 4, 2015 Why are you letting the words of a hater get to you? Rainbow Dash 1,472 August 4, 2015 Share August 4, 2015 @@Joseph Stallion,Haha, i see what you did there. As for the topic, i rarely see bronies shoving the show or their ideals down people's throats. Occasionally I'll see people role-playing on youtube comments, which i do see as annoying as all get out. As for the haters, i think they just want to target the easiest thing to criticize and pick apart."You like a show for little girls""real anime fans dont watch naruto"etc. etc.Its easier to be a hater who acts like they don't have an ounce of culture in them on the internet where its anonymous and no one can call you out by name. Take the whole anonymity away from them and they usually buckle. R.I.P. Lord Bababa and Harmonic Revelations
