Do you take any prescription medication?

So I went to Bronycon over the weekend (awesome time if you ever get the change to go BTW) and 2 of my 3 room mates took more then one prescription medication and it got me thinking. How how common is it for teens and young audits to have a prescription for something? I am 30 and I don't have any prescriptions but I am also the type of person that will not go to the doctor unless someone takes me there in an ambulance.

I used to take fluoxetine (Prozac) for depression, but it's been in an unmedicated remission for several years now, so I'm happy to be medication-free.

Better question is who doesnt take medication. I know some people really need it, while others dont but are prescribed it anyways. I have been the pharmaceutical companies guinea pig for the early years of my life. I took every anti depressant medication out there. Currently I am only taking Zoloft for anxiety and a small amount of depression.

It kinda sucks that I need to, but at the same time I think of it as strengthening my brain since anxiety and depression are a chemical imbalance in the brain. By taking medication im righting the mess ups my brains causing...an by doing so my brain will get its act together and pump the chemicals right and naturally.

I take one kind of prescription medicine. Because I have anxiety problems, I have to take Zoloft to help balance it.

Yeah, I have chronic depression, I lack any form of attention span, and I have the opposite of ADHD, so no energy at all

I take one prescription med. this tiny blue pill - and it works like a bomb!   

Along with that I take vitamin pills too

I take medication most every day for ADD, and it's been marvelous in helping me get my life in order. I also take some stuff for allergies in the springtime, but I don't have a prescription for that. Since my father is a pharmacist, you can be sure that I've had all sorts of pills ushered down my throat over the years . S'just the way he shows how much he cares.

I take about 7 pills a day.

 

For my anxiety I take prozac and buspar. A couple of coconut pills to help boost my energy. And at night I take synthroid for my hypothyroidism.

Yes, and way too many :\ lol...let's see. I'm on zoloft, wellbutrin and abilify for depression and anxiety and adderall for my adhd as well as taking 2 vitamin d pills for a deficiency. the worst part it that all of that only takes the edge off my depression and anxiety.

Thyroid medication, because my thyroid is terribly sluggish.

 

An arthritis anti-inflammatory.

 

Amatriptaline, because sleep isn't something I do on my own.

 

Short acting allergy pills, because I'm allergic to everything.

 

Nasal spray so I can breathe.

 

I also carry epi pens, though I've never had to use them. Every time I have allergic reactions that bad, I usually mosey to the ER before it gets bad enough to need the pens.

What irks me is that sometimes people don't understand the different kinds of ADD and ADHD there are.  I don't have any issues with paying attention or focusing.  I just have hyperactive impulses that can cause me to do something stupid without thinking about it beforehand.  Luckily my meds have also helped me deal with that a lot.  

 

DashForever, if I may ask, (whether generic or name brand)...  Do you take Ritalin or Adderall?  I take generic Adderall, though it's obviously the same stuff as the name brand anyway, just cheaper.

Maybe once in the past 10 years. I had surgery in my mouth in 2008, and was prescribed some kind of painkiller. I took one pill and never needed any of the others.

 

But I've also been to the doctor only a few times in my entire life, so there's that.

Technically, now there is no distinction between ADD and ADHD...it's just ADHD with subtypes...attention deficit, hyper activity or a combo of both. ADD is considered an outdated term. (The more you knowwww!~)

Sure do. I take 10mg ProZac for anxiety and depression, that's prescribed, but I also take omeprazol for heartburn over the counter daily. I used to take depakote for bipolar but weaned off it as I felt it unnecessary, as I'm unconvinced I have bipolar to any extant whatsoever, I feel I was misdiagnosed. I've also taken Trazodone (sleep aid), Seroquel (anti-psychotic), Remeron (anti-depressant), and Citalopram (Anti-depressant SSRI).

I was immensely lucky with my depression in terms of medicating it. My mother had been on Prozac, and it had worked for her, so it was the first medication I went with. I didn't have to deal with those months of trying to find a medication that worked, constantly switching prescriptions.

Glad to hear that you've found a way to stay in control a little better.

 

My type of ADD is primarily inattentive, meaning that my issues revolve around the attention stuff. It's not that I'm unable to pay attention to anything, but shifting from one task to one another and making sure I get everything done (especially in a timely manner) has always been a struggle for me. I have a bit of hyperactivity too (sitting still and indeed, staying seated is a real pain unless I'm just completely riveted) but I haven't had the struggles with impulsivity you mentioned above. If I'd known about the different types of ADD and the many ways it manifests itself, I might've seen somebody about it long before I did.

I'm on something called Ritalin SR right now. Haven't tried anything else, but it's been working out for me pretty well.

I do. I take Concerta for my ADHD, abilify for my horrible anxiety. I also take a blood pressure medication because the Concerta has been discovered to cause high blood pressure in me. Then, I take Klonopin as needed for anxiety. I also take vistaril as needed for allergy hives due to anxiety. Oh, and I take Clonidine to help me sleep at night...

 

Yeah, my anxiety is hell for me as you can see. It's been known to disrupt my life in certain circumstances.

 

On the topic of ADHD, I have the mixed form of it. I had it sooooooo bad as a kid that by second grade, I was put immediately on meds just to calm me down and help me focus. I've gone through almost every one of them and finally settled on Concerta. Ritalin actually made me worse rather than better.

I have had to take many random medications in my life, many of which I don't even remember the names of anymore. I do know I took Lexapro in the past but now I only take one medication, that is Paroxetine. Apparently it is an antidepressant that is supposed to also help with anxiety, both depression and anxiety are major issues with me. Not sure if it is helping any at all but I am only on my first few weeks with it so hopefully it helps in the long run.
