Technically without spike twilight would not have gotten her cutie mark, then twilight would not have gotten into celestias school for gifted unicorns, then the main 6 would not have ever met.

Also spike probably has bad episodes because spike cannot (I guess you could say) shine on his own, like take lesson zero for example, all of ponyville would be a disaster by now if he had not sent a message to celestia.

I mean in my opinion spike could be the one of friendship itself..... maybe. I mean he was born on the day the main six made there first conection with each other. I don't know it's just my opinion!!!

exactly why Spike needs to be treated with more respect. Not just by the ponies, but writers as well. He's at least if not more, important than Twilight, and none of the 6 would've even met, if not for him

Which character do you think Spike could sound good with in a song? Because giving him his own song isn't a good idea.

I'm curious why you think giving him his own song isn't a good idea. For example, the origin of how his egg was acquired has enough potential for a tragic backstory to warrant a song on his own someday.

But back to the question: Singing with other characters. The top choices for a duet are Twilight, Rarity, Celestia and Luna. Another possible musical number could be with him and the CMC.

Also there's Discord - pairing those two would be interesting, I imagine. Though I don't know if John De Lancie can actually sing since he spoke his lyrics in "Glass of Water."

I don't think he's warranted a song at this point because a song is supposed to describe and show what the character is feeling in musical form. We don't know what Spike's character is right now since it's different in every episode that he's in.

I have a love hate relationship with spike. I love him. he's adorable, sweet and generally means well. HOWEVER he often causes more trouble than he should.

So, you would say you mostly like him?

The only Spike episode that comes to mind where he is shown positively is Dragon Quest. In Dragon Quest, he is shown to have courage, determination, empathy, the strength to stand up for himself, and self acceptance. I like Spike but there needs to be more Spike episodes like Dragon Quest rather than Princess Spike, Spike at your Service, or Just for Sidekicks where he's shown to be selfish or a nuisance.

I just don't know if Spike's character can go anywhere as long as he's in this show when it already has like 10 other characters to focus on. At least if he's given his own self discovery quest spin off, they can take the time to give him a more solid character while still being his sarcastic self with his new friends. Not to say I want him desperately out of the show but it may be the only way to satisfy the haters as well as finally give the chance for the little guy to grow.

If they put him in a spin-off series that gave more focus to him, they would be great. But if they simply wrote him out of the show so he could go on some epic quest by himself, I wouldn't be happy at all.

In fact, while I've avoided posting to the thread about dropping characters causing you to stop watching the show, I would have to say if the writers did simply write him out of the show to focus solely on the ponies, that might be enough to make me stop watching. It would basically tell me that despite having a character with a lot of unanswered backstory, they either aren't allowed to or don't know how to do this, and that doesn't bode well for any of the other characters.

There is some precedent for that with me: When they fired most of the VA's for Pokemon when the rights reverted from 4Kids, I tried watching for another season and a half, but could never get used to the new VAs, especially Meowth's. (Not that it would have mattered I suppose since his original VA passed away not long after.  :( )

Ironically, I feel for Spike much like I felt for Meowth - utter sympathy because they both seem to get a raw deal. Their characters are two sides of the same coin: Spike is a good dragon but transgresses from time to time, and Meowth is bad on the outside but actually good on the inside. In both cases, life seems to dump on both of them all the time for the bad things they do, whether they really deserve it or not.

Believe me. I wouldn't like it either if they just wrote Spike out of the show. At the same time, maybe he needs to get away from his friends in order to find out who he really is. Either that or the mane six need to show a bit more that Spike is their friend too. You can hardly tell half the time. Like I felt an episode that could have worked in the 1st season is that the mane six all get into a fight where they're all mad at each other and it's up to Spike to remind them what brought them together in the first place. I think it would be kinda powerful if Spike were to be the ones to see the errors of their ways and he walks off with a warm smile as the six of them share a group hug.

For those of you have seen the Equestria Girls movies, let me ask you this. How do you feel about Spike as a dog compared to how you felt when you first found out they were going to make him a dog. I still remember when I first heard about the EqG franchise that I prayed they would do it and leave Spike out completely.

I like him, he was practically a slave in the first seasons, but now it seems like the writers don't really care about him. I wish he gets a good episode for once.

I love Spike for several reasons:

1) While he may get an ego  and be childish at times, he's trying to help out as much as he can.

2) The fact that he's the only dragon living in pony society that we know of. It presents good setups, but sadly, the show writers haven't been using any of that recently. I'm always looking for fan fiction (well written or not) to expand on the "only dragon living among ponies" idea.

3) I like dragons in general. Good, Evil, Nuetral, etc.

A Dragon as big as his love for Disney and has his head in the clouds literally and figuratively

So far the show leans to show dragons in a bad light.

They need to at least show a good dragon that Spike can take as a role model. Then an entire episode where Spike lives with that dragon for a while to learn some of the ways before going back home.
