I remember (Before modern warfare series) that i was into Call of duty 2 on PC. And i thought it was so realistic and had good graphics. But its so outdated now if one compare newer games. Just wondering if its one game you thought at your time had good graphics. Then checking several years later if it holds up :)

All the MGS Games, but now comparing to MGSV, only 4 and Rising could keep up with MGSV, but not much. the rest is old compared to MGSV, especially MGS1

Not really. I mean...there were games where at the time I thought were great graphics of course but I never saw them as more than they were. I don't go back to this:

and think it used to look like this:

Pokemon Diamond and Pearl and Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess are pretty outdated now, even though I still kinda see them as newer games. I remember how great and revolutionary I perceived their graphics.  :rarity:

In a way i kinda think FF7 PS1 looks better. Its not so washed out. And have more of a lego charm to it in overhead view. While when they fight its more details around it. So i guess they manage to create that form of vibrant atmosphere. But gonna see how the PS4 remake will do though. Coming in a few years i bet.

My bet is the original will always win. I believe it will since Sakaguchi was in charge of it and not Nomura. But thats my bet ^ _ ^. But i like the comparison you picked though ^^

I feel like the original was a lot of wasted potential. The remake has every chance to make it what it was meant to be.

I'm okay with a more grey color palette, personally. Final Fantasy VIII was more like what FFVII was trying to be imo and it was far more grey.

Hmm, interesting point of view.

What i basically know is that. Sakaguchi was mostly in charge of FF games, and 7 was basically his last before he sorta started to fade more away and letting Kitase take over. Which i will admit made good games, with 10 being the last squaresoft game.

I have faith in Nomura. I'm a huge Kingdom Hearts fanboy and he's done wonders with that series.

As peculiar as it may sound, paper Mario on the N64. I don't know what's changed, I think it might be my television set making the low res textures stand out more than the old 96 Sony. At the moment, TTYD is more like I remembered the original appearing. At the time though, I thought those graphics would be timeless and I still love that art direction they took with the series.

Dynasty Warriors 4. I absolutely love that game and I remember at the time, I thought it looked amazing on the PS2. Playing it again recently, it looks a lot muddier than I remember it being.

The game is still fun for me to this day, it just has not aged well visually. :P

Ōkami is a game with nice graphics. Although not super polished, the graphics within this game is very stylistic. It really fits the traditional Japanese theme they're aiming for. Whenever I play this game, my eyes are always glued to how gorgeous the graphics are.

I remember being being blown away when I first saw the Playstation Final Fantasy games. I mean don't get me wrong, they're still great games, and their FMVs still look fantastic(which says a ton considering how ugly FMVs from that era tend to be), but looking at them now(in-game wise(pre-rendered backgrounds disregarded), only IX(and maybe VIII) looks alright, but no where near as great as I remembered, and VII outright looks bad. Then again, I think most 3D games from the N64/PS1 era don't hold up very well visually. Metal Gear Solid Super Mario 64 are imo, the high points of their respective consoles, and are the only games where I still like the visuals a lot

It's partly why I prefer 2D games as their visuals tend to hold up better in age

Oh, Boy! Video Games! My FAVORITE Topic!

Now, I'm more of a "Storyline and Gameplay over Graphics" kind of Guy, but I'll post here just because.

I've played the Elder Scrolls Series from 2 to 5. Morrowind was actually my first (I went back and played some of 2 later), and I remember thinking "These graphics are AMAZING!", then I get to Skyrim and see its Graphics... "It went from the D3D Rendered graphics of Morrowind to THIS?! That's astounding!"

I've also played every Generation of Pokemon (Excluding OR/AS), and have watched the Graphics evolve (Much like the Pokemon) in each generation. Makes me feel proud to see that. I still go back every once in a while and play Blue on my old GBA Emulator, or the GBC Emulator on my Phone.

Now, I say I'm more for Gameplay and Storyline rather than Graphics, but Graphics are that Bonus that everyone loves. Graphics aren't important, as long as the Game itself plays great. I will, however, still agree that some games have aged more Gracefully than others, but in my Mind, Games should be enjoyed by everyone, no matter what.

I really loved the graphics to the Gamecube Mario games as a kid. Nowadays, they don't really strike me as amazing, but they aren't bad.
