Learning a New Language

Je parle français car je vis au Québec et c'est ma langue maternelle.

Puedo hablar espanol un poco tambien porque lo aprendí en la escuela.

Auch spreche ich Deutsch, aber es ist nicht so gut.

And obviously, I can speak English too (I learned it at school and on the internet mostly)

I can also understand a surprisingly large amount of italian and portuguese when I read them because of their similarity to French and Spanish. (latin languages ftw!)

I also tried to teach myself Japanese about a year ago by using web tools etc. I actually made it to the point where I was able to form basic sentences, but then I got busier with college and I forgot most of it, unfortunately. I can still read/write the katakanas/hiraganas though! :)

(Also, if anypony's wondering, the French, Spanish and German sentences I said mean "I speak french because I live in Quebec and it's my mother tongue", "I can also speak Spanish a little bit because I learned it in school" and "I can also speak german, but it's not so good" respectively.)

I want to learn german, which I have picked a couple of times and left, I'm a very disorganized person. However, I'm designing a plan which involves FIM german dubbed episodes =D (I saw The Best Night Ever a couple hours ago, and found it factible)

Of course, English is my second language (Spanish is mother) and I like to think I'm adequately proficient in spoken Japanese (I am, also, a weaboo)

Hey! we kinda seem alike in that sense

Spanish is my mother tongue, English is my second language (TV helped) and I learned some basic German, but I'm not sure on how to continue...

Would you be kind enough to tell me where you found the German dubbed FiM episodes? :o

I was "forced" to learn english because my family moved abroad when I was 7. I don't regret it tho, because without English I wouldn't be speaking to you :D.

I've also studied chinese for a couple of years, French from the 4th grade, Swedish from the 7th grade, and I've kept studying English after we moved back...but it's so easy that I basically don't have to study to get near-perfect scores :). The only reason I study Swedish is that it's mandatory here.

It might seem that I like studying languages, but I prefer mathematical subjects way more: they don't have exceptions ^_^

I'm learning German right now (I CANNOT speak it too well and have a terrible time understanding conversation, but I can write very well)

I remember as a kid I attempted to learn Greek and Russian on my own using tapes and books from the library.

EDIT:

I also know a lot of curse words in various languages, but I don't know how any of them are spelled

Only Fren ch from school. Je deteste l'espagnol parce que il est stupide a mon avis. Et mon grandpere a un ville en Paris.

Ey, español es más fácil de francés, jaja :P

I'm learning Spanish and Japanese, and I hope I can start learning Mandarin soon, and Russian in the future. My Japanese is passable (orally, as for writing I know all the kana and only about fifty kanji so far), and I could do well in a Spanish place, but I have to speak really slow and can't understand fast talkers perfectly, lol. Took classes in both, but my kanji studying has been purely a self effort.

I'm taking French in high school right now on my own accord.

I also have a bunch of notes on Esperanto (the most commonly spoken artificial language in the world) but haven't looked them over in a while.

Don't seem to be able to.

I'm studying Katakana, but that's as much as I can seem to get down.

If you're interested in any assistance, learning hiragana first will make things go faster, since you'll be able to read almost everything as long as there's furigana. Seeing results from your work makes the perseverance last longer.

My family wishes that I would learn Spanish mostly because they're hispanic, but I find it way too boring and most of the Spanish teachers are stupid, so I take German, just because its something new, the German teacher is the best teacher I've ever had , and the other students are always misbehaving, which for some reason is really funny in that class :P

The language i'm writing now.

Also I've studied German and Japanise a little at school. Can speak basic phrases and read (Hiragana and katakana in Japanise)

German killed me by it's long words so I've droped it. And in second case I've just understanded that I have no need in Japanise.

I want to learn one more language but cant decide which one (German would be most usefull for me, but I can't do it ^_^ ), may be Spanish, Esperanto or Mandarin.

When I was in high school a foreign language wasn't required. My freshman year of college (1991) I took Russian because it was supposed to be hard and most everyone else was taking spanish that was supposed to be easy. My teacher was from Kiev so he had the accent. I only took it one semester and got a "C" grade mostly because of the writing not the speaking. I have always wanted to continue and really learn it.

Well, I want to be a translator later so the more the better.

I learned English mostly by myself (I wasn't going to wait for school to teach it to me since they were still at days of the week level after five years http://mlpforums.com/public/style_emoticons/default/dry.png ). I got Spanish now and I'm pretty good at it. For a while, I tried to learn Norwegian by myself but never found any good sites to help me out. I'll learn German and Chinese in Cegep, and then Japanese and Russian at University. I want to learn A LOT of languages :P .
