Yo The Rocky Horror Picture Show turned 40!? AWESOME!!!

I don't even know where to start. . .

Honestly I prefer the Rocky Horror Show to the Picture Show. The live acting gives more life and playfulness into the experience: the script allows for plenty of ad-lib, jeering beyond the pre-written jeers is welcome, and the 4th wall is broken to the point of an audience member becoming just as much a part of the show as an actor. I never got into dressing up but I suppose it's the same logic as with cosplay.

Rockey Horror Picture Show is AWESOME! Very strange, but awesome none the less. My sister did some performances of songs from it when she was in high school. They dressed up and everything. I think people like it because of how strange it is, and the songs are very catchy too.

the rocky horror picture show has the most delicate mix of controversy, a well written story, shock humour, and a kick ass sound track. The experience itself will be enough to bring viewers in for years to come.

I never got into dressing up but I suppose it's the same logic as with cosplay.

I guess it's the over-the-top costumes. I mean, of 10 main characters, 8 will be seen in suspenders at some point in the film. 3 of them are women.

And surprisingly many men cosplay as Tim Curry's character, Dr. Frank N. Furter, the Sweet Transvestite from Transsexual, Transylvania. He wears suspenders and high-heels all the time.

I have the 20th anniversary VHS tape with a recording of the anniversary special at the end. Tim Curry said something like he would never have thought that there are so many crazy people out there, and that he feels like he's the only one who isn't dressed as him (there were dozens of Frank N. Furters in the front rows).

By the way, even if you go watch the movie, you can count on one thing except for more cosplayers than not: audience partici — — — pation. Water pistols ("Over At The Frankenstein Place"), toast bread (for bringing out a toast), toilet paper (for when Rocky is unwrapped), rice (for Frank and Rocky's wedding), not to mention everyone singing along, doing the Time Warp etc.

I've never seen it, although I do have the DVD. I do know one thing though. I absolutely love the song "Time Warp"!

Don't dream it, watch it!

Nice character choice. Twilight as Riff Raff, Rainbow as Magenta, and who else could be Columbia than Pinkie?

Oh wow I didn't even realize that. I saw the film not too long ago with a couple of friends (I've seen it before that as well of course). We laughed, sang and had a great time. I think the songs are average, the film is quite well made but the story is kind of meh and to be honest (don't hate on me ok, I do like a lot of other musicals) it sort of makes me uncomfortable to watch it so I'm not really that big of a fan.

So, when my mom was going through college she worked at the school's theatre for a time.  She used to bring us with her and we'd get to sit in at the shows because she had a pretty chill boss.  One of the shows was Rocky Horror Picture Show.  It wasn't really like one of the live shows you might see and the people that went to the shows always showed up in suits and dressed professionally.  I never heard anyone from the audience interacting with the show in any way.  The guy who played elvis in the theatre's version of the show used to throw his handkerchief at me since I usually sat in the front row if there was no one there.  I thoroughly enjoyed seeing it and I've also seen a few other shows there during the time my mom worked there.  My favourite was their A Christmas Carol, they were a talented bunch and whoever made the sets deserved a raise imo.  I've never seen a live presentation of the show besides that.  Maybe one of these days.

It’s really a mess of a movie, but I guess people like to go out and make a party out of those midnight screenings. For some it’s a nostalgia trip, and for others it’s an excuse to get into a very different kind of movie-going experience. I can think of plenty of weird movies that would do just as well for those kinds of parties, but Rocky Horror seems to be the one that stuck.
