This is just the icing on the cake to why I don't like the idea behind the finale. They really are gonna have to do a lot of explaining to make it work well and even then using time travel as a plot point in a show like this is kinda lame to me. As long as it ends on a good note, then I don't care in the end, but this is the only finale I am kinda dreading.

Starlight also appeared in What About Discord. Not saying that she won't do anything with the information she gathered in Amending Fences, but she might see something a bit more devious in Discord. What if the Mane 6 had never stopped him, and they all remained their gray, miserable selves?

I wouldn't pass judgement on the finale yet. After all, we've seen in the past how there are certain loopholes for spells (Rainbow Rocks, anyone?), not to mention how it's already been mentioned how it is possible there are multiple for it.

 

I personally am excited for this, since I'm interested to see how it could actually happen. Maybe using Doctor Whooves's time travel? Or possibly using/creating an entirely different spell? Or even editing the pre-existing spell? There's a large amount of possibilities, and saying that it'll be confusing and bad before it even aired really isn't the best way to look at things, if you ask me.

I think the information she got from that visit in "What About Discord" was that time travel is possible. I agree, though. that messing up Discord's recapture would have the same effect as Nightmare Moon not being stopped by the Mane 6.

 

But, while it's possible she could allow Discord to defeat the Mane 6 (I guess Starlight could incapacitate Spike so he's not around to belch back Twilight's letters?) and Celestia is forced to step in to stop him, I believe there was a reason we were allowed to notice she was spying on them in "Amending Fences" and the S1E1 plot will be the focal point of where things go astray.
