Toys And Older Kids

One thing that bothers me is how older children are picked on for playing with toys. I'm in my late teens, and I still play with toys. There's nothing wrong with me, it's just who I am.

There are so many YouTubers who are adults and still play with toys. For example, Heythatsmike, Mommy and Gracie, and Dollastic. They can help prove that just because it's mainly kids who play with toys, doesn't mean that teens and adults do it too.

Everyone collects something different. Watches, shoes, video games, makeup, and so much more. So what's wrong with adults and toys? I would like to see what you think about this. Please share your thoughts below.

Everybody plays with toys. The toys just change over time.

As for the post, as with all things, it's how you use your time that should determine if you should be doing it.

If you're in high school, not doing your homework, failing classes, then perhaps it's time to put away the toys.

But if you're leading a productive life, what does it matter what you do in your spare time?

Same applies to adult activities. If you spend all day drinking and not working or completing college, it might be time to put the bottle down.

As long as you are capable of having responsibility towards others, you are an adult and a man/woman.

What you do on your free time should not be judged by others.

I see where you're coming from, it's a very annoying assumption that older kids and adults shouldn't play with action figures and the like. It reminds me of gender stereotypes. People always assumed I'd prefer a plastic baby doll over a Ben 10 action figure when I was younger. They still do now, really. It's silly, the same as this age stereotype. Just because most older kids and adults don't play with toys aimed at children, it doesn't mean that should be expected of most people of that age range. I really couldn't agree with you more! :)

I never understood this mentality. Growing up doesn't mean you have to put away all childish things. I'm sixteen and I still collect toys - ponies, mostly - and it's something that brings me joy and happiness, so what's the harm?

One word for all the ages :      LEGO

PREACH!

Srsly, tho... Are we discussing collecting toys or actually playing with them? It feels like these are two completely different things!  :ooh:

Is putting toys on display in your room (and maybe styling them every now and then so they look good) the same as role-playing with them (and maybe even doing the little voices, too)?

Don't get me wrong,  I'm 25 and I do collect toys but I kind of... grew out of playing with them. And it bothers me a lot! :(  Sometimes I just pick them up and realize that the idea of playing with them doesn't appeal to me any more... I even TRIED to play with my ponies once, but I got bored pretty fast! And this sucks.

Yeah, exactly!

Probably many of us on the forums, including myself, have at least somewhat sizable collection of MLP things so I certainly don't have any problems with such things.

Speaking of Youtube channels focused on toys and oddities, perhaps you'd enjoy this channel; man in his 60s who collects various toys and oddities.

Despite only/majority of toys I would collect are MLPFIM in nature, I still watch that Youtube channel from time to time and I browse toy shops sometimes as well. While I may not collect same things as others, it's always interesting to me to see collections other people developed overtime; it could lead to interesting conversations about said collections and learn more about the person and why their fascinated with such things.

As for teens being picked on for their hobbies, maybe not always true but it seems to me that generally people will be decreasingly judgmental of such things as they become older.

I find nothing wrong with anyone of any age/gender collecting anything. Whatever it is, if you like it, then do it. (JUST DO I-*Shot*)

Not sure how I feel about people playing with said things, but honestly I don't know why I should care. There are so many more important things in the world to concern yourself with, why give the slightest care as to what someone does in their house?

I just turned 20 and I still love toys and stuffed animals. Nothing wrong with that.

I hate it when people do things like that! seriously, what's it to you what I do with the things I buy and collect! If it's not hurting anyone why bother telling them they shouldn't do it? My grandpa still collects toys (not as much as he used to) and he's in his sixties! I want to be a toy maker and an animator when I finish school and hurts me deeply when someone says toys are only for children! If toys are only for children then how can a toy maker know a toy can be enjoyable if he/she can't enjoy them for themselves? Toys are ment to bring joy to anybody who plays with them, and joy should not be limited to just kids...

It's just annoying expectations of today's society. Honestly, I grow weary of hearing them over and over again.

"You're too old for that!"

"But that's not what real men do!"

"Grow up!"

Like stop judging me just because I'm being different, there's nothing wrong with being different.

I hate it when people called collectible figurines, “toys”.  I’m a collector for goodness sakes. If I see something valuable then of course I would buy it!

Pfft. RIGHT?! I still play with dolls. 18 inch dolls. I have three, and I love dressing them and doing their hair. I even take them with me places. Like, I'll take one somewhere at a time. I don't take all three of them. XD I also love stuffed animals, and I love sensory fidgets because they help me with my autism and ADHD. I even sleep with my dolls or stuffed toys. I really don't think there's anything wrong with this. If it's not hurting anyone, why should it be wrong? Besides, some people don't stop and think that maybe the person could have some sort of disability (like I do; speaking from my own experience). I'm not saying EVERYONE does... just some MIGHT have them.

I do, however, find it odd if an adult plays with toys.

Like, making them move, talk, and play out scenarios with them. I don't hate people who do that, I just find it weird.

Funny you say that... I have special needs. I like to play with toys because it helps soothe my anxiety, and I have VERY bad anxiety let me tell you. Just saying. ;)
