While I was in my thinking tree, I was pondering. Witch was better, an OC or a Ponysona? With an OC you could potently create any kind of character that you can imagine. With a Ponysona you are limited to creating a character that is based off of your personality. A Ponysona just doesn't seem as creative or fun as making an OC to me.

What do you think? Is a Ponysona limiting your creativity or is a OC to much of a wild card.

I think that Ponysonas are okay, if that's what you'd want to have (someone based on you, that is). I personally think a very very large percentage of this fandom is extremely creative and inspired by each other for good ideas and improves them, like a creativity latter of sorts. An OC allows for much more creative freedom than based on you. It can make the character, backstory, etc etc a lot more interesting.

I personally think a Ponysona is better overall. While I can definitely appreciate a well made OC, Ponysona's usually are representations of the person who made them, sometimes being a completely ponified version of that person. A pony representation of themselves. I really like this as it is another form of expressing one's personal self.

Depends on what you want to do with it - a ponysona is a natural choice for avatars and other personal artwork - a way to reprent oneself in pony form. Plus, if you're new to roleplay it may be easier to try with a character with simmillar psychological makeup (although the backstory may be very different from the person that created them - keep that in mind).

OC gives unlimited options, but generally requires some more experience, or natural talent, to effectively roleplay somepony that very well may be completely different, psychologically, from the roleplayer.

That would be the main difference if we go back to basics. Other than that, it's mainly personal preferences and the goal witch the character may serve.

You Could just combine both ponysona and Oc, or An OC with your personality, or an ponysona with a cool backstory.

creating both ponysona and oc still take a really long time with me (need someone too point out my flaws).
so yeah, you could try for both like mine

My OCs are ponysonas in that through the character one is able to learn about me. For example, I am making a character now called Andante Capriccio. Capriccio is the embodiment of one part of my personality. Capriccio grew up surrounded by classicism, so he exhibits the behavior of someone born between 1760 and 1775.

Another OC, Don Carbonell del Palomino, is a foil to myself. Don Carbonell is a narcissist who goes around "solving" problems and being rather dramatic.

*Addition: I am beginning a trend where I provide information for others to make a ponysona for me. This way I can see more objectively how I present myself to the world. Reputation is everything and I want to make mine pristine.

Personally I like both of them.

While I have an OC and not a ponysona, I just thought it would be more fun to actually create a character from scratch, I can understand why some people would rather have a ponysona.

They are great for avatars and profile pictures and signatures and all that stuff.

In my opinion, if you want to make an OC (ponysona is in the set OC), make one however you want to. If you feel that you should write/rp about what you know and have experienced, then you may choose to make it a ponysona. But neither is truly "better".

This is your average, everyday annoying signature.

Are you seriously reading this?

Really?

Wow. I didn't think you'd actually waste enough time to get to the fourth line.

Or the fifth, for that matter. What, am I interesting or something?

I think a Ponysona is ok and can be fun a bit while oc is also fun and lets you slip into a diff mind frame.  Mostly it comes down to what the person chooses or likes to use more!
