Ugh, flippin' WHY? Mlp doesn't even originate in Japan, but they get an MLP themed Pony cafe! Not fair. (Offtopic: like they don't get enough exclusives with all their promo Pokemon releases and other cool stuff that stays in their borders) But back to the pony cafe....

 

I do like how there's other generation ponies featured in the cafe, and not all about gen 4 (all pony gens...sans for gen 3.5 need love) I just hate how the states (coughCaliforniacough) doesn't have a pony cafe to go to. (Or Canada, I guess, since the series is made there)

 

How do people feel about the pitiful lack of MLP cafes in the America's and Canada?

Themed cafes seem to be more of a Japanese costum. Also the population in Japan is denser. so that would mean more Bronies per square mile in Japan. I don't think a themed cafe of any kind would realy catch on in the west. I could be wrong though. I never go to cafes.

There is a Doctor Who themed bar in Brooklyn, as well as several others in other places but I don't know exactly where. But, yea, they are probably more common in Japan.

Japan is awesome. And the fact that they have a MLP themed cafe, doesn't help my love affair with this country. America, if I'm wrong, I don't wanna be right, lol. America hasn't quite embraced the wackiness that are fandoms yet. I would say that it has gotten considerably better, though. But, Japan, on the other hand, is accepting of the peculiarities and is known for them; which is why it is the mecca of all things nerd. I honestly don't see a MLP themed cafe ever appearing in the US. The backlash would be horrendous. Can you imagine having little girls go to a MLP cafe with their parents and having grown men holding plushies sitting in a booth behind them...in 'Merica? I know penguins have wings but that ain't gonna fly.

EQD probably has a post with pics or something. But from what I heard this is just a temporary theme thing the cafe is doing for like a month or something, not a permanent MLP cafe. They looked to have an actual living breathing pony out front, though, from a pic I saw. That seems pretty neat.

But you should be aware that special cafes is a thing in Japan and pony cafes aren't the first of a cafe of it's own special nature.

Considering there's everything from Maid Cafe's to AKB 48 Cafe's, this was bound to happen eventually.

 

Next time I head back to my hometown, I guess I have a place I've got to visit. XD

As far as I can tell it didn't actually represent all generations, just Generation I and the current Generation, so no G2, G3, or G3.5. G2, I understand as it was just a toyline/game and was quite shortlived... But no G3? Oh well.

I know cosplay cafes and the like have been popular in Japan for a good while now. However, I was under the impression that MLP wasn't that popular there, that it has a fanbase but it's pretty small compared to the western fanbases. Season 3 didn't even get broadcast didn't it?

Your forgetting the small matter that Japanese society is mentally insane... your talking about a country where its totally fine to have a vending machine that sells girls panties as if you were getting a can of cola. And these things are in clear view, for everyone to see. What would the profit margin even be like for one if run in the US? When you factor in the cost of rent, tax, licensing, etc that comes with running any cafe, then limit your audience to little girls and bronies, then limit the brony audience to only the ones that are brave enough to show their face in a MLP cafe, what sort of profit could you expect to make? Actually, saying that, if it was just a childrens soft play cafe then those usually do alright don't they? But they usually are built to appeal to both gender of kids.

A lot of hardcore anime fans tend to grow and obsession with Japan. Many of them do not realize the reality of how the country actually is. Given my brother in law actually lived there for 3 years, it is not this magical amazing wonderful place that most people believe it to be. Japan has many drawbacks, arguably worse than the US even. But people think anime, cosplay cafes and such make up for that.

 

Some stuff about Japan that weeaboos generally don't know:

 

• Gays have almost no rights in Japan. Gay marriage is not legal and almost 1/3 of the population there thinks that gay marriage should never come to Japan. Discrimination based upon sexuality is only illegal in some cities. LGBT face much discrimination there. Someone like a male brony in the US would actually face severe discrimination for going to these cafes which were designed for women.
• Sexual orientation is not protected by civil rights laws in Japan. Same-sex relationships are not even recognized in Japan.
• Acid rain is a reoccurring problem there.
• Suicide rate in Japan is exceedingly high.
