JeyWiz 1,097 December 16, 2015 Share December 16, 2015 I'm just wondering, as an MLP fan, should I really give myself the "brony" title? Or can I just simply call myself an MLP fan?
Snake 516 December 16, 2015 Share December 16, 2015 I dont call myself a brony because I dont like what its associated with, but i'm also one of the biggest MLP fans on the site so it's safe to say you dont have to call yourself a brony. <3 2 signature by; https://mlpforums.com/user/26424-minikirby123/art by; http://pucksterv.deviantart.com/ profile picture by; https://mlpforums.com/user/36534-prophet/

WindShear 543 December 16, 2015 Share December 16, 2015 It just depends on if you want to call yourself that or not. You are an MLP fan, and you are participating within the fandom so obviously you are qualified to take the title of brony if you wish, but that is up to you.
Melon Blitz 423 December 16, 2015 Share December 16, 2015 We can just call you "Jeff" if you like, it's all up to you. 3 http://nogonip.tumblr.com
kanwe yest 157 December 16, 2015 Share December 16, 2015 Being a fan of any show shouldn't make you anything different. A lot of people like South Park(i do too), but we don't call ourselves anything other than fans. Being a fan of something doesn't have to change your life, so yes you can just be called an MLP fan(even if you're the biggest fan).
Megas 27,711 December 16, 2015 Share December 16, 2015 Only if you want to. It's just a label
Kyoshi Frost Wolf 41,632 December 16, 2015 Share December 16, 2015 You can call yourself whatever you wish. In the end, we are all fans of the show, so any other title is just gravy.
Shanks 10,816 December 16, 2015 Share December 16, 2015 That is entirely up to you and is only as important as you are willing to make it. To me they are one in the same, but "brony" is still just a label. 1 Rarity Get's Cockroaches
simba86 1,541 December 16, 2015 Share December 16, 2015 I don't really mess with the brony title myself, it just makes it wierd in my opinion, i love the show so that's what i am 1 It's better to die on your feet than to live on your knees! Malinter 3,064 December 16, 2015 Share December 16, 2015 It is not mandatory. I've watched alot of stuff but I'd not call myself a whoovian or a trekkie because I watch them. I have referred to myself as a brony in the past but usually only with people I knew for a fact wouldn't understand why I like the show XD. PinkiePie97 913 December 17, 2015 Share December 17, 2015 You don't have to call yourself a brony if you don't want to. I call myself a brony but there are MLP fans that don't use that label. Brony_B 128 December 17, 2015 Share December 17, 2015 It seems to me that this sort of thing has more to do with avoiding negative stereotypes. Just like video fans not wanting to be labeled as "gamers" or anime fans not wanting to be labeled as "otaku," etc. Those terms, along with "brony" and many others can come with a host of negative stereotypes, and you can choose how you want to handle it. For me, I own the title so that it helps break down stereotypes rather than reinforce them. To separate myself from it would be to agree that the stereotypes are true, and then somehow need to distance myself from them. For me it's easier just to have a conversation about MLP and being a brony head on, or to not discuss it at all if it's not the right place for it, rather than to seek some middle ground. But hey, to each their own. Princess of Friendship Queen of Our Hearts
ShadOBabe 18,997 December 17, 2015 Share December 17, 2015 Eh, I like anthro stuff, but I don't consider myself a "furry". If you like the label, use it. Or not. It's up to you. 2 Check out my artwork any time: http://shadobabe.deviantart.com/ "OMG; You are such a troll. XD" - PathfinderCS
Violet_S 785 December 17, 2015 Share December 17, 2015 Not necessarily, there are people that don't like that tittle and don't use it at all Let the rainbow remind you, that together we will always shine~
Solid 1,327 December 17, 2015 Share December 17, 2015 It's entirely up to you, but it's true that calling yourself a Brony can cause some people to judge you based on poorly supported and at times entertaining stereotypes. That being said, if you are pretty certain about yourself as a person, and you decided that these stereotypes do not fit you well and serve mainly as amusement, go ahead and take on the name of Brony. Kafooku 156 December 17, 2015 Share December 17, 2015 In my opinion, it really doesn't matter what one in the fandom calls their self. I agree with you, I generally don't like to call myself a brony/pegasister because I don't feel comfortable expressing my liking of MLP in that sort of way. Detritus 258 December 17, 2015 Share December 17, 2015 If the term "brony" appeals to you, then sure. Otherwise, just stick to "MLP fan". Either is fine.
I've Left 6 December 28, 2015 Share December 28, 2015 (edited) This user has left the fandom. They've been exposed to the horrible underbelly of it and the poisonous culture, including the racism, rampant pedophilia, and lack of care to do ANYTHING about it. This fandom began on 4Chan. It shows. I hope you can get out too. Edited August 13, 2018 by OpenYourEyes
