The elements only works if all of them are used at the same time. So how did they use the elements if there are actually 9?

I don't channel surf but I do read while watching TV.  (Used to drive my father crazy) This means I sometimes miss things like what you saw at the end of Episode 2.

 

I will point out that at the end of part 2 of Princess Twilight (season 4 opener), when the Tree of Harmony was given the Elements, it briefly flashed a picture of the Elements.  It showed 3 additional, unknown Elements.  This hints you might be on to something.  However, when the Tree gave Twilight the puzzle box, it had only 6 keys.  This shows that the other 3 weren't meant to be revealed yet.  It is sort of like The Round Table of King Arthur.  The seats were only named as the knight arrived to take them.

 

As to the unknown Elements, there is too little info for anything more than a wild guess.  Still, if either Sunset Shimmer or Starlight Glimmer is meant to be one, one of the Elements might be Forgiveness or something like that.  It seems logical.

thank you, this sounds very interesting, i never noticed that, but sounds like i need to re-watch that episode.

I think one of the extra elements could be 'courage' displayed by Starlight glimmer.  I hope not though, I find her dreadfully bland. Her back story is not at all convincing, just because she lost her friend at a young age she become some kind of psychotic jealous cutie mark stealer???? I mean c'mon, people/ponies lose friends everyday, make new friends and move on with your life WOW.

Thanks for the reply, sorry been very busy, that was a false episode list leaked, but starlight does display courage, if you check the blog the section that mentions the potential elements has been updated, an thiers new information too. Thanks again
