gaming The rise of spiritual successors

Spiritual successors are becoming more common. I'm really glad to see new collect-a-ton platformers like A Hat in Time and Yooka-Laylee. It's also a bit lulzy since little developers know what gamers want and some AAA developers are failing to deliver good games of beloved characters......*cough* Sonic Boom *cough*.

Which successor are you playing or waiting for?

Japan, where Yo-Kai Watch's second movie has more success than The Force Awakens :umad:

How about Dragon's Crown? Yeah, the big-boobied characters are quite controversial to many people, but, gameplay-wise, it's a rather amazing and worthy successor to the Dungeons And Dragons arcade games by Capcom. Plus, there's also Dark Souls to the Demon Souls series. And of course, the Fallout series to Wasteland.

Yooka Layle is the one I am most looking forward to playing with Mighty Number 9 in a close second. It is a natural consequence of game developers getting increasingly out of touch with their consumers and engaging in some questionable practices such as rushing out broken/incomplete games, excessive micro transactions (though consumers are just as much to blame for actually buying them), ridiculous DRM policies and more as well as the rise in indie games/gaming companies.

Yooka Laylee. I grew up on donkey kong country, banjo kazooie, banjo tooie, conkers bad fur day. I have been Rare diehard for the long hall, they betrayed themselves with those garbage kinect games. SOOOO glad playtonic was formed. This was the best news of my life. I literally donated so many childhood and adult days to banjo kazooie, tooie, and dk64.

To be fair none of that was their idea, after Microsoft bought them they made them crap out useless so called "games" like that instead of letting them do what they do best and create the games they want to create. I am glad Playtonic was formed as well and am excited for Yooka Layle not just because it is a spiritual successor to Banjo and Kazooie but because in the likely event it is successful than Playtonic will probably go on to create other great games.

Probably Bloodstained, the Castlevania spiritual successor, so far it's looking pretty swell.

I'm still looking forward to Mighty No 9, but a lot of the bullshit surrounding its development, not to mention the constant delays, has deflated the hype for me quite a bit

Yooka Laylee is definitely the top of my radar right now, that game just has incredible written into its code.

I will also say this,we need a spiritual successor to Windjammers, which was an arcade sports game for the Neo-Geo. That game looks like it would be amazing in modern day.

I'm definitely looking forward to Bloodstained as well. I'm a huge Castlevania fan and I have doubts the series will ever continue so I have to make due. I need to research more on the game. I've only seen a bit. Knowing the guy behind the Metroidvanias is doing it is mainly what has me interested.

I also can't wait for Tides of Numenara, the spiritual sequel to Planescape: Torment. A lot of the same team is working on it. I don't know if they can make the same miracle again but by-gum I'm rooting for them.

I don't see a problem in big-boobied characters :proud:.

Many workers of Rareware resigned after Microsoft bought Rareware. And later on the developer lost it's longtime fansite after they where denied to do an interview, since the site and the fans openly criticized Kinect Sports.

I am really looking forward to Mighty Number 9, and from what I have seen from it, Yooka Layle looks like it will be really fun.

The developer delayed Mighty No. 9 again. As if having a bad PR manager (now resigned) was not damaging enough.

And do you guys also know the RCT series? Frontier is developing a spiritual successor called Planet Coaster. It shows that their development has really progressed, and it feels that the game has more personality than the official RCT World (which switched from developers too many times).

I'm really looking forward to Mighty No. 9 I'm interested in Yooka-Laylee, even though I've never played Banjo Kazooie and I'd like to try and get my greedy mitts on Azure Gunvolt.

Just putting this out there, I want Playtonic to get a hold to the rights of Battletoads and bring them back!

Awesome levels, awesome music, awesome graphics, slightly less insane difficulty and a two or three player co-op mode that won't screw over your partners.
